Darkest Sins by Silvia Paoletta - 1M ago

Most of you know I rarely go on vacation, BUT this year is different . . . While you are reading this post, I'm on my way to the airport to take a flight to my hometown, Rome! I'll be there visiting my family AND *drumroll* I'm going to attend RARE18Rome!!!! How cool is that? :D

I'll be in Italy for a few weeks, and then my sister is coming back here with me to keep spending some quality time together, something (unfortunately) we don't get to do as much as we'd both love. So, I decided to take the Summer off from blogging. I've never done that in seven years—since Darkest Sins was born—and I think this time can be a good thing also to recharge a bit and come back even stronger. DO NOT go away, though, I'll be back posting in a couple of months, which I'm sure are going to fly!

See ya soon, and have a great Summer everyone! :)

P.S. If you still aren't following me on Instagram, this might be a good chance for you to do so, I'll be posting pictures from the event <3 & keeping you posted with my sins adventures ;)

THE CONFESSION BY RHYANNON BYRD

SERIES: London Affair #3
PUBLISHER: Headline Eternal
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
SOURCE: Purchased
LINKS: Goodreads

SUMMARY
When American art-history graduate Emmy Reed arrived in London, she was looking for an exclusive scoop on a famous reclusive artist. Encountering millionaire playboy Jase Beckett, Emmy agreed to be his date for a family wedding when she discovered that her sought-after artist was his grandfather. After a stunning weekend of intense sexual connection, neither Emmy nor Jase wanted to let go. But both had been burned by a lifetime of family tragedies and were unable to admit their feelings, so Emmy returned to San Diego. Determined to win her back, Jase followed, only to be forced to end things between them for her protection. Now, back in London, Jase is undone when Emmy shows up demanding an explanationand he can't let her go again. With her at his side, he's ready to uncover the truth about the damaging secrets that have cursed the Beckett family. But as the revelations keep coming, it's clear the danger isn't over. And all Jase and Emmy know is that they can only trust each other...

MY REVIEW

Things got really interesting in this final part, and I’m not referring to the romantic aspect but to some twisted revelations... Very dark secrets surface here, and they seriously want to make you go Hulk on everyone involved! If I already started to connect the dots and figured something out before it was revealed, I honestly didn’t think of a shocking fact that is impossible not to find disturbing. It works for the story, though, and it certainly explains the character’s behaviours. We can’t certainly justify any of them, but we get a better understanding of the whole situation and want to stay with Jace every step of the way.

An exciting, sexy, and a bit dark read. It's true that it run too fast for my taste, but I also get this is a serial and that should kinda be expected. Still, with a better pace I would have felt a bigger involvement and I’m sure I would have loved it more, but I did have a good time. If you’d like to give it a go, I would suggest you to have all the three parts at hand.

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme originally created by Jill @ Breaking The Spine
in which we have the opportunity to spotlight upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This week's pick: SEA WITCH by Sarah Henning
Expected publication: July 31st, 2018 by Katherine Tegen Books

Everyone knows what happens in the end.
A mermaid, a prince, a true love’s kiss.
But before that young siren’s tale, there were three friends.
One feared, one royal, and one already dead.

~~~~~~~~~~
Ever since her best friend, Anna, drowned, Evie has been an outcast in her small fishing town. A freak. A curse. A witch.
A girl with an uncanny resemblance to Anna appears offshore and, though the girl denies it, Evie is convinced that her best friend actually survived. That her own magic wasn’t so powerless after all. And, as the two girls catch the eyes—and hearts—of two charming princes, Evie believes that she might finally have a chance at her own happily ever after.
But her new friend has secrets of her own. She can’t stay in Havnestad, or on two legs, unless Evie finds a way to help her. Now Evie will do anything to save her friend’s humanity, along with her prince’s heart—harnessing the power of her magic, her ocean, and her love until she discovers, too late, the truth of her bargain.
The rise of Hans Christian Andersen’s iconic villainess is a heart-wrenching story of friendship, betrayal, and a girl pushed beyond her limits—to become a monster.
What do you think? And what are you waiting for?
THE CHASE BY RHYANNON BYRD
SERIES: London Affair #2
PUBLISHER: Headline Eternal
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
SOURCE: Purchased
LINKS: Goodreads
SUMMARY
When American art-history graduate Emmy Reed arrived in London, she was hoping to land her dream job with an exclusive scoop on a famous reclusive artist. Thrown into the path of millionaire playboy Jase Beckett, Emmy found herself agreeing to be his date for a family wedding when she discovered that her sought-after artist was his grandfather. After a stunning weekend of intense sexual connection, even amidst his family's devious scheming, neither Emmy nor Jase wanted to let go. But both had been burned by a lifetime of family tragedies and, with neither able to say what the other wanted to hear, Emmy returned to San Diego. Now, realising he's been a fool, Jase follows Emmy, determined to leave the past behind and fight for his future. But will San Diego be far enough away to escape the dark, damaging secrets that surround the Beckett family—especially when the revelations threaten his and Emmy's lives, as well as their relationship?
MY REVIEW
Here’s the thing, even if two people spend just a few days together, when they find someone they click with, it’s pretty much a done deal. Of course, you gotta dig deeper to know for sure and decide the (proper) course of action, but that’s difficult to do when you don’t acknowledge how you feel—or start to—even to yourself in the first place. Right, Jace? And yet, considering the tragedy that burned him deep in the past, I didn’t have it in my heart to completely bash him. And apparently Emmy didn’t either... In fact, if things were steamy in England, they got scorching hot in California!
Although there were certain events that should have taken a slower pace in my opinion, and I didn’t get the insights I was hoping for, Jace and Emmy still gave me a good time—they got the best of it, though. And what about that turn of events I didn’t see coming towards the end? Off I go to the next and final part!
THE WEEKEND BY RHYANNON BYRD
SERIES: London Affair #1
PUBLISHER: Headline Eternal
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
SOURCE: Freebie
LINKS: Goodreads
SUMMARY
American art-history graduate Emmy Reed is in London, hoping to land her dream job by getting an exclusive scoop on a famous reclusive artist. When a dangerous encounter throws her into the path of millionaire playboy Jase Beckett, Emmy is grateful for his quick-thinking—but equally determined to turn down his proposal to be his date for a family wedding. That is, until she discovers that her sought-after artist is his grandfather. Tired of the game-playing women in his circle, Jase finds Emmy refreshingly fascinating. And as the weekend progresses and they work together to survive his insufferable family's devious scheming, Emmy and Jase find themselves drowning in an intoxicating sexual chemistry that leaves them both desperate for more... and reeling emotionally. When their stunning weekend is over, neither is ready to let go. But dark secrets surround the Beckett family—can their fledgling relationship survive the damaging revelations to come?
MY REVIEW
This is the first part of a serial in which we find a hot chemistry, and quite a screwed up family to stay away from... Well, at least that would be best for Jace—and everyone, really—but then, if you’re born into high society, sometimes you are kinda forced to keep up with the crazy circus. And although this might seem the main problem, for Emmy the real challenge is to let go of what she thought was a dream in the first place. If for some reason (destiny?) you find an unexpected, amazing connection with someone, would you ever want to break the spell? More importantly, is that even possible?
Starting with an underground encounter taking a wrong turn—watch it out there!—and a double interest turning into the perfect offer, this was a fast, but well delivered read. I would have just appreciated more insight in the whole (psychotic) family, so I hope to get that wish granted with the next instalment.
LENNON REBORN BY SCARLETT COLE
SERIES: Preload #4
PUBLISHER: Swerve
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
SOURCE: NetGalley
SUMMARY
Lennon McCartney is not a broken man. Because being broken implies being whole once. When a horrific accident deprives him of the one thing he loves—his talent as a fierce and explosive drummer—Lennon is left with a life chained by an abusive mother, by crushing guilt over a tragic past. A life he doesn’t want. Dr. Georgia Starr is a legend. She’s one of the most successful neurosurgeons in the world, coming from a long-line of respected New York doctors. Her life is built around solving complex medical cases in order to bring relief and hope to sick children. But the one problem she can’t solve is how to live her life. How to be shake loose the burden of being her elitist, arrogant father’s daughter. How to be free. Can a man who despises his life and a woman who desperately needs to live find the answers, and love, with each other?
MY REVIEW
A dear friend of mine has been bragging about Scarlett Cole's books for quite a while now, and soon my best friend started to follow her example by highly praising her to me as well. So when both of them read this book, they made sure I HAD to give Cole a chance. Note to self: always listen to those who know your cup of tea.
"Lennon Reborn" is the fourth book in a contemporary romance series, but it's no issue for the reader to get into the story—or every character—without having read the previous instalments. If anything else, it just makes you want to pick the other books to hold on to all da feels a bit longer, no matter that you already know the outcome. This book starts with probably the most I-did-not-see-it-coming impactful event that left me hanging for a few moments before turning to the next chapter. It wasn't easy, but I needed to. The whole story is emotionally involving because of some dark and difficult subjects, a tragedy you can't shake off—no wonder it affected Lennon the way it did—and lousy relatives you'd better cross off your life. But can Lennon find the strength to let emotions hit him, and Georgia find the courage to stand up for herself?
Scarlett Cole wrote a really touching story and beautifully portrayed a broken character who is impossible not to want to love, comfort, and give him all he wants—even if he will never ask. If you haven't heard of this series before, I'd recommend you to check it out!
FROM DUKE TILL DAWN BY EVA LEIGH
SERIES: The London Underground #1
PUBLISHER: Mills & Boon
GENRE: Historical Romance
SOURCE: NetGalley
LINKS: Goodreads
SUMMARY
The Duke of Greyland lost his heart—and a princely sum—to a charming, beautiful and destitute widow who, after one passionate night, vanished without a trace. Cassandra Blair grew up on the city streets, picking pockets to survive. Greyland was a rich mark—to be fleeced and forgottenonly she’d never forgotten him. Years later, chance brings them together again, in a London gaming hell. Grayland is desperate to have her… never suspecting everything about his lover was a lie. But finding herself in dire financial straits, at risk of losing everything, Cassandra has no choice but to beg the man she betrayed for help. The proud Duke will assist her under one condition: she doesn’t leave his sight until her debts are paid! But can the real Cassandra—the smart, streetwise survivor—steal his heart all over again?
MY REVIEW
When I put my eyes on this book, the first thing that got my attention wasn't just that lovely purple dress, but also the title. Oh yeah, I see what you did there, and I really like it!
"From Duke Till Dawn" is a nice historical romance read with an appreciated twist, instead of a scoundrel for a hero, we get a swindler for a heroine. Doesn't that just makes things pretty interesting? Making a living is hard and, in certain periods of time, for women it proved to be quite a real challenge since they were left with very limited/poor options... In a way, readers can see Cassandra did what she had to out of desperation, in order to survive, but it's still impossible not to feel for the Duke of Greyland. He honestly showed more compassion than I would have imagined, he agrees to help Cassandra when he had every right to refuse—after being played and sort of getting heartbroken in the process—but that works well because we get a mystery to solve. So, it's not simply a re-kindle of passion we assist to, but a catch-a-swindler-to-save-another kind of adventure.
I enjoyed this story, if it hadn't been so easily resolved—and perhaps we got to see more of how it started it all—I would have probably felt a deeper connection and loved it. Yet, I can't deny I ended up having a nice time.
This week's pick: BRING ME THEIR HEARTS by Sara Wolf
Expected publication: June 5th, 2018 by Entangled Teen
A lush, unique new fantasy trilogy about a girl tasked with stealing the prince’s heart…literally, from the New York Times bestselling author of the Lovely Vicious series.
Zera is a Heartless—the immortal, unageing soldier of a witch. Bound to the witch Nightsinger ever since she saved her from the bandits who murdered her family, Zera longs for freedom from the woods they hide in. With her heart in a jar under Nightsinger’s control, she serves the witch unquestioningly.
Until Nightsinger asks Zera for a Prince’s heart in exchange for her own, with one addendum; if she’s discovered infiltrating the court, Nightsinger will destroy her heart rather than see her tortured by the witch-hating nobles.
Crown Prince Lucien d’Malvane hates the royal court as much as it loves him—every tutor too afraid to correct him and every girl jockeying for a place at his darkly handsome side. No one can challenge him—until the arrival of Lady Zera. She’s inelegant, smart-mouthed, carefree, and out for his blood. The Prince’s honor has him quickly aiming for her throat.
So begins a game of cat and mouse between a girl with nothing to lose and a boy who has it all.
Winner takes the loser’s heart.
Literally.
PASSION RISING BY J.A. HUSS AND JOHNATHAN MCCLAIN
SERIES: Original Sin #4
PUBLISHER: Science Future Press
GENRE: Romantic Suspense
SOURCE: Authors
LINKS: Goodreads
SUMMARY
Old demons are back. Maddie’s dealing with the fallout of her choices. Safety and happiness are relative, elusive things she’s desperate to have. But they will forever remain out of reach until the demons of her past are laid to rest. Tyler’s mistakes resurface to haunt him and he’s just beginning to understand that money can’t fix a broken relationship. He must open his heart and search for answers he’d rather not find. She wants peace in a world made of chaos. He wants to rid himself of a lifetime of guilt. They’re soul mates, but that’s no guarantee. They’ll need to rely on each other to find their happily ever after. Because the fight never ends—it just gets easier with someone at your side.
MY REVIEW
The moment to say goodbye to this couple has come, but the good news is that we don't have to say farewell to Huss and McClain as a writing duo. In fact, they appear to have more in store for us in the future, yay!
"Passion Rising" wraps things up pretty well, giving an ending to a series that has been promising from the very beginning. While I had some reservations when I started the read—the first few chapters were a bit slow for me—I found myself pleasantly surprised when I saw the story taking an unexpected path. If action and extreme danger were running strong in the previous instalments, in this final book there's a healing process both Maddie and Tyler have to go through, which also helps the reader connect with them on a better level. These two surely have been through hell for quite a few years, but now that they are together they seem to have found the light, and finally realise there are things they need to face in order to really move forward. Can they put their demons at rest and reach their personal heaven?
I'm not just happy to have given this series a shot, I'm also glad I discovered two authors who know how to keep their readers engaged and on edge. I don't know about you, but I'm keeping an eye on their works!
