When you think of cruising in Canada & New England, do the oranges, yellows, and reds of the fall foliage dance through your mind? Do you think of the historic events that took place in Boston during the American Revolution, or the fabled shipwrecks off the coast of Nova Scotia? These are great, but the hidden gems on a cruise to Canada & New England are the delicious, regional dishes rooted in the history of the ports where you can try them! Take a look at 5 treats you have to try on your cruise to Canada & New England!

Lobster Roll (Bar Harbor, Maine)

Created in 1929 in Connecticut, the lobster roll quickly caught on and became wildly popular in Bar Harbor, Maine, where some of the finest lobster in the world are caught. A simple sandwich, the lobster roll uses hearty lobster meat, lightly tossed in mayonnaise and served chilled on a toasted roll. Depending on how you “roll,” some fillings include celery or chopped onion! Make sure you pick up a fresh lobster roll in Bar Harbor! Served with a side of fries or chips, it’s the perfect lunch to get you through a day of exploration!

Donairs (Halifax, Nova Scotia)

There’s so much to see and do in Halifax that you just might need something you can eat on-the-go! In 2015, Halifax declared the Donair to be the official food of the city, marking the first time in Canadian history that a city had an official food! When in Rome, right? But what exactly is a donair? Similar to the Greek gyro, donair is beef cooked on a vertical spit, then stuffed in a pita. But the similarities stop there. Top your donair with fresh veggies, cheese, or whatever you want! Once the toppings are on, bring it all together with the signature donair sauce, a unique condiment made with evaporated milk, vinegar, garlic, and sugar! They say the sauce is what brings the popular street food together, but we’ll let you decide. Try a donair the next time you cruise to Halifax!

Poutine (Quebec City, Quebec)

Vacations are all about relaxation and it’s a lot easier to relax with some comfort food! Born in Quebec, poutine is a cultural icon for the city and has garnered international popularity. According to local lore, a chef was so flabbergasted by a customers’ request for French fries, cheese curds, and gravy that he yelled “ça va faire une maudite poutine!”—which translates to “it will make a damn mess!” And thus, poutine was born. This messy dish, made with fresh French fries, cheddar cheese curds, and brown gravy, has been feeding the Quebecois for years and has even been transformed for upscale eateries! Grab some poutine at a food cart in the city or class it up with foie gras poutine in a 5-star restaurant!

Boston Cream Pie (Boston, Massachusetts)

The city of Boston played a pivotal role in the American Revolution and is full of incredible historical sites, successful sports teams, and pies? Or is it a cake? Either way, the confection gets its namesake from the city and has been delighting residents since the mid-1800s. Created as a signature dessert for the Parker House Hotel, the Boston cream pie is created by layering rich, French butter sponge cake with creamy custard, all brushed with a syrup made of rum. Is your mouth watering? Finish your Boston cream pie with a layer of custard around the entire cake, some toasted almonds, and a topping made with bitter baker’s chocolate to tie each slice together. Named the official dessert of Massachusetts in 1996, it would be a travesty to visit and not have a slice, or three.

Dulse (Saint John, New Brunswick)

“The lettuce of the sea,” quite literally! Dulse is a protein-packed, vitamin-reinforced, seaweed snack that is popular in New Brunswick! Dulse is extremely versatile, and can be powdered and used as a seasoning or pan fried into crispy chips! Many choose to cover these crispy chips with toppings like cheese, salsa, and other nacho toppings! And as the vegan-craze grows, dulse is growing in popularity as culinary scientists have developed a strain of dulse, that when pan fried, tastes just like bacon! As chips or a healthy side for your eggs, you have to try dulse!

Have you found a recipe yet? We know you’re looking! We think the best way to try something is to go to where it originates, so you can taste the flavors that made these foods international hits! With that in mind, call The Cruise Web today at 1-800-377-9383 so our expert consultants can book you (and your taste buds) on a cruise to Canada & New England!

On June 11th, The Cruise Web officially marked its 25th anniversary with a celebratory dinner cruise in Washington, DC!

Once onboard the Odyssey river ship, our sightseeing celebration embarked for an evening of fun along the Potomac River. And if there were a theme for the evening, it would be gratitude—demonstrated in the way everyone could fondly look back at our company’s growth and heritage, the relationships formed through it and the clients helped because of it.

Joining The Cruise Web for these festivities were our friends, family and cruise line representatives—each of whom has supported our team in too many ways to count. From the longstanding relationships we maintain with our 20+ cruise line providers to better serve our clients, providing—among other benefits—access to exclusive offers, training and expertise, to the colleagues and loved ones that make it possible to put in the work needed to be successful for 25 years and counting!

While we would have loved for everyone to have been able to join us in person, we are immensely grateful for the wonderful video messages shared by some of our closest cruise providers:

Congratulations to The Cruise Web for 25 Years in Business - YouTube

Also celebrating with The Cruise Web was Monica Kindle, Director of Operations at Stepping Stones Shelter, a local homeless shelter dedicated to finding stable environments for homeless families with children. Impressed and moved by the vital service provided by the Stepping Stones Shelter, The Cruise Web has made it a reoccurring goal to give back to our community by supporting the organizations that make it better. With that in mind, The Cruise Web’s executive team, led by Frans Hansen and Karolina Shenton, was honored to support Stepping Stones’ mission with a $2,500 donation.

As the evening was nearing its close, Frans Hansen, The Cruise Web’s president and founder, took the time to share the core values—and one in particular—that have shaped our company and culture. Please enjoy his speech in the video below:

25th Anniversary Speech by The Cruise Web's President, Frans Hansen - YouTube

A huge ‘thank you’ goes out to all of The Cruise Web’s cruise line providers for their sponsorship and participation at this event, and also for their support over these incredible 25 years!

We’d also like to extend additional thanks to all of the Odyssey’s crew, service team and photographers for making this a memorable night! Check out our slideshow for a glimpse into the gala:

This month, The Cruise Web is proudly celebrating 25 years in business!

Many exciting things have happened in 25 years, and a lot has changed—in both the cruise industry and The Cruise Web. Annual cruise passenger numbers have more than quadrupled, a host of destinations—like Iceland, the Arctic, the Galapagos Islands and Antarctica—are now more accessible than ever, and onboard experiences have expanded to accommodate travelers’ diverse interests, now including everything from mixing your own wine and Cirque du Soleil, to robotic bartenders and go-kart racing!

Meanwhile, at The Cruise Web, we have outgrown four different offices, expanded our cruise provider line-up to more than 20 brands, and built the dedicated teams necessary to become the full-service agency upon which our clients depend—all the while devoted to expert personalized cruise consulting.

As we celebrate our 25 years in business, we also celebrate one thing that has remained constant—our dedication to fostering a team-oriented culture of trust and, most importantly, respect.

At our company’s anniversary celebration, Frans Hansen, president and founder of The Cruise Web, took time to elaborate on the significance of respect—to him personally, as well as to The Cruise Web. Below is the video of his speech, which we hope you’ll enjoy:

And speaking of clients… thank YOU! Humbly, wholeheartedly, and most of all, thank you to all of our loyal clients for trusting us with your cruise vacation plans. We would not be here celebrating 25 years if not for you, and we hope you’ve enjoyed the journey as much as we have:

In May 2019, Caribbean Princess came out of drydock featuring Princess’ brand-new, never-before seen attraction – The Reef Family Splash Zone. Located aft on Deck 17, The Reef embodies a family atmosphere where adults and kids alike can relax, have fun and enjoy the sun and water together.

“In our latest effort to enhance our family offerings, this newly reimagined space invited families and kids to experience a multi-functional area to engage, play, reconnect,” said John Swartz, Princess Cruises president. “The Reef is the ultimate spot for families of all ages to enjoy spending time together with new water features, recreational activities and lounge areas.”

The Reef is equipped with many features centered around family fun, including the Game Zone and Splashpad with Whale Feature. Are you a social media savant? An Instagram intellectual, if you will…

If so, why aren’t you on a cruise right now? With endless possibilities of photo ops, you’ll love your cruise vacation, and chances are your friends will “like” it too! So without further ado, and in no particular order, check out our Top 5 Instagrammable Spots in the Caribbean!

The Pitons (St. Lucia)

These two mountains rising out of the crystal blue water in St. Lucia are known as The Pitons. Each spire, formed hundreds of years ago by underwater volcanic activity, reaches for the sky at over 2,400 feet and is one of the most popular photo ops! If you want the #pictureperfect snap, take some advice from our team here at The Cruise Web and head to the white sand at Sugar Beach, where the immensity of these natural wonders can actually fit in the frame!

Maho Beach (Philipsburg, St. Maarten)

CAN YOU HEAR ME OVER THE ROAR OF THE ENGINES? Okay, good. Now I can tell you all about this unique spot to capture the coolest photo on your Instagram feed. Located on the southern, or Dutch part of the island, this beach sits just in front of the runway for the Princess Juliana International Airport and offers stunning views for beachgoers and aviation enthusiasts. Photos like the one below are bound to frighten your mom (no danger involved) and impress your followers!

Pig Beach (Nassau, Bahamas)

It’ll take an excursion from Nassau to get here, but you can’t pass up the chance to see the pigs on Pig Beach. An uninhabited island, these porkers aren’t afraid of people and will scurry up to visitors in hopes of a snack. While no one knows how all these pigs got here, there are many local folktales that offer explanation. One suggests that these pigs were dinner for a group of sailors who never returned home, another portrays them as brave survivors of a shipwreck! No matter how they got there, we’re just happy to take their picture. Swimming happily through the clear water and rolling in the white sand of Exuma, the pigs on Pig Island are the perfect picture partner!

Tulum (Cozumel, Mexico)

Do you ever wonder what they did for fun in the 13th century? Apparently, they went to the beach! Explore the ruins of the Mayan city of Tulum, resting on the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Tulum is thought to be one of the youngest sets of Mayan ruins, meaning the ancient civilization lived here up until the Spanish invasion. The largest remaining ruin overlooks pristine, white sand beaches, making for a great backdrop. Don’t Mayan(d) if I do!

Click HERE to view all cruises to Cozumel!

Magens Bay (St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands)

#NoFilter needed on the stunning photos you’ll take from the Mountain Top observation deck in St. Thomas. A cable car ascends the mountain, providing stunning views on the way to the top, where the panorama will take your breath away. On a sunny day, there is no better view, as the lush green vegetation of the island contrasts perfectly with the deep blue of the Caribbean, spotted white with yachts and catamarans.

Click HERE to view all cruises to St. Thomas!

Now that you have a game plan, you have to get there! And the best way to visit the Caribbean is, of course, a cruise! Call The Cruise Web today at 1-800-377-9383 so one of our expert consultants can help you plan an Instagram-worthy vacation!

The Harlem Globetrotters’ captivating theatrics and always entertaining exhibition games are a perfect fit with Carnival’s signature brand of fun. Through the new partnership, Carnival will also be provided with traditional marketing assets in order to support their charitable partners’ initiatives.

To promote the new partnership, Carnival released a video of the Harlem Globetrotters stars Hammer Harrison and Dragon Taylor gettin’ buckets in an entertaining fashion aboard Carnival Horizon, featuring Carnival’s SkyRide aerial attraction and Lido Deck:
