BETHANY EARRINGS
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
  • SuperDuo beads "Purple Gold Iris Matte"

The other day I blogged HERE about this "Claudia" bracelet and mentioned that I planned to make some earrings to go with it. As you can see, I went with the "Bethany" earrings to complete this set but it was a close call. I wanted to make sure that I used a single color for the inner flower of the earrings because that makes it easier to keep from losing my place while following the pattern. I had enough of the dark greenish SuperDuos in the iris mix to use in the centers. I got very lucky though because I only had two beads to spare after making these earrings yet I was able to get a pretty good random mix of colors to surround the green flowers. I only had to use one other greenish one on each earring.

You will find a link to download my free "Bethany Earrings" pattern HERE.

  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Matte Metallic Patina" (2008)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Matte Metallic Patina" (2008)

For information about these earrings, read my previous post HERE. I've made two complete pairs plus three more sample colorways that you can see down below.

  • 11/0 seed beads Toho "Gilded Marble Turquoise" (1703)
  • 8/0 seed beads Toho "Galvanized Carnival" (513)

The closest 8/0 bead color that I had to match the gold in the gilded marble 11/0 beads was one of the colors that comes in the carnival mix. As far as I know, Toho doesn't sell that shade of gold as just a single color.

Here are the sample earrings...

  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki/Czech "Opaque White Lila Gold Luster" (15695)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki/Czech "Opaque White Lila Gold Luster" (15695)

  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Teal Picasso" (4516)
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Rose Enamel" (372)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Teal Picasso" (4516)

  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki Union beads "Opaque Blue Luster" (65431P)
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki Union beads "Opaque Blue Luster" (65431P)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)

CLAUDIA CALI BEAD CHAIN
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
  • Cali beads "Dark Gold Rainbow"
  • SuperDuo beads "Purple Gold Iris Matte"

I have made and blogged about almost twenty "Claudia" bracelets since I first created the pattern about two years ago. I thought I had pretty much every color of Cali beads that I like until I saw these in a local bead shop. Since then I have gotten one more color that I didn't have but I haven't made a bracelet with those beads yet. I only know of a few other bracelet patterns that call for Cali beads but I especially love making and wearing this one.

I plan to make a pair of matching earrings and will show you the set once I've done that. I'm not sure yet which earring pattern I will use but it will likely be either "Corundum Earrings" or "Bethany Earrings".

BISANETA BRACELET
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
  • Samos® par Puca® beads "Violet Gold Ceramic"
  • SuperDuo beads "Opaque Green Turquoise White Luster"

This time I used Samos® par Puca® beads instead of DiamonDuos or GemDuos and they work quite nicely. Once again I left off the netting like I did on the bracelet that I blogged about HERE. I also made one other change. I used 8/0 seed beads to fill the gaps between the SuperDuo motifs instead of 11/0 beads because the Samos beads are fatter than the diamond-shaped beads. I got these Samos® par Puca® beads from Queen City Bead on Etsy.

This bracelet is based on one that was designed by someone named Bisaneta and you can see her original bracelet HERE on Facebook. There is no pattern that I know of but there is a YouTube video tutorial HERE for a very similar bracelet called "Bardot".

  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
  • Samos® par Puca® "Opaque Green Turquoise Bronze"
  • SuperDuo beads "Bronze Pale Gold"

I made the sample above first to test if Samos beads would work with this pattern.

I recently came across some beaded earrings for sale on Etsy and thought they were really cute. The tops of the earrings are brick stitch like the fringe earrings that I make but they're made with regular seed beads instead of Delica beads. Instead of fringes on the bottom, the beads form concentric loops. I don't know if there is a pattern anywhere for this design but you can see them HERE in Yaira Carpenter's Etsy shop. If you know how to do brick stitch, these are very quick and easy to make. If you know of a pattern for these earrings, please let me know.

First I made a couple of sample earrings using 8/0 seed beads like the ones in the photos on Etsy. I don't mind the large size but I'm not keen on the chunky look of the beads. The one made with Miyuki beads isn't too bad but the one with Toho beads is a mess. So, I made several samples using 11/0 seed beads instead and I like them much better. I made some with Toho beads, some with Miyuki beads and even a pair with Czech seed beads. As usual, the Toho earrings came out the largest and the Miyuki earring is very petite. The one made with 10/0 Czech seed beads is somewhere between them in size.

I made one tiny change from the way that Yaira makes hers. She uses four seed beads for the smallest loop and I've used five on some of my sample earrings because I didn't like how there was a gap in the center of the loop with four beads. I suppose that she used an even number to prevent the beads from forming a point but I don't think it's very noticeable on the tiny 11/0 earrings.

  • 8/0 seed beads Toho "Hybrid Moon Dust" (Y369)

  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Opaque Brown Tan Picasso" (4517)

  • 11/0 seed beads Toho "Hybrid Oxidized Bronze Clay" (Y864)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)

  • 11/0 seed beads "Bright Brown Bronze" (unknown brand)

  • 11/0 seed beads Czech "Opaque Terra Dusty Rose"
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)

  • 11/0 seed beads Toho "Opaque Turquoise Amethyst Marbled" (1206)
  • 8/0 seed beads Toho "Nickel Plated" (711)

  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Matte Metallic Patina" (2008)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Matte Metallic Patina" (2008)

BISANETA BRACELET
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki/Czech "Vintage Copper" (55003)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki/Czech "Vintage Copper" (55003)
  • GemDuo beads "Copper Splash Turquoise"
  • SuperDuo beads "Bronze Copper"

This bracelet is based on one that was designed by someone named Bisaneta and you can see her original bracelet HERE on Facebook. There is no pattern that I know of but there is a YouTube video tutorial HERE for a very similar bracelet called "Bardot". The main difference is the placement of the netting along the outer edge. I actually left off the netting this time because I don't have these copper seed beads in 15/0. I also wanted a simpler look to go better with the earrings.

RUSSIAN LEAF EARRINGS
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Metallic Chocolate" (461)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Galvanized Cinnamon Brown" (DB460)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Matte Copper Plated" (DB340)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Matte Opaque Sea Foam Glazed Luster" (DB374)

I made the "Russian Leaf" earrings first then decided that I really needed a matching bracelet. Although the bead colors aren't exactly the same, I think they're close enough to call this a set. I like that the diamond shape of the GemDuos echoes the diamond design on the earrings.

In THIS post from last week, I showed you the sample earring on the far left in the photo above. I mentioned that I thought that the bottom point needed some work because there were too many turquoise beads there. The sample in the middle was my next attempt to fix this. While it looks better, it's still not quite right. Finally, it dawned on me that there should be a diamond shape at the bottom like you see on today's earring on the far right. I will post the color chart and a PDF for these earrings as soon as I have a chance to type up the steps.

I got the GemDuo beads HERE from Queen City Bead on Etsy. I found these copper SuperDuos at Hobby Lobby. The copper seed beads are from Potomac Beads. You can buy Delica beads at Red Panda, Aura Crystals, Supply Emporium and Jill Wiseman Designs

  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Metallic Light Bronze" (DB22L)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Galvanized Matte Eggplant" (DB1174)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Galvanized Matte Berry" (DB1838F)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Galvanized Matte Gold" (DB1832F)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Galvanized Matte Dark Sea Foam" (DB1847F)

I tried another "Russian Leaf Earrings" design idea with four different colored stripes and liked it so well that I made this pair for myself. I changed the bottom metallic fringe slightly from the way that I usually make it so it looks a bit like another color band.

Click HERE to download my free PDF file which tells step-by-step when to add each color Delica bead while making these earrings. This is NOT a tutorial for making "Russian Leaf" earrings". You will need to use Jill Wiseman's tutorial (see the link below) but make them with seven rows instead of nine as Jill instructs.

  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Opaque Blueberry" (DB267)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Opaque Dark Olive" (DB657)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Dyed Opaque Maroon" (DB654)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Dyed Opaque Anemone" (DB2140)

I also made the sample earring above using the same chart but with different colors.

Lately I've been working on trying to come up with as many designs as I can think of for making "Russian Leaf Earrings". I have made some very pretty designs but I am getting a little tired of using the same favorites over and over in different colorways. The thing is that these earrings are so small that the options are kind of limited because you can only fit so many design elements in the space that's available. I've still got several more ideas to try but I thought I had better take photos of these samples while we had a few minutes of sunshine yesterday. At least I can show you that I have actually been doing some beading and haven't abandoned this blog. Besides the lousy weather, I've been super busy with other things since my last post.

When I make complete pairs of earrings with some of these designs, I will type up the step-by-step bead pick-up instructions and create the color charts for you to download.

  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Opaque Persimmon" (DB2108)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Matte Bone Glazed Luster" (DB388)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Dyed Tiffany Blue" (DB2133)

I made the sample above first. While I was pretty happy with the design, I wasn't crazy about the arrangement of the colors. The blue seems out of place and the dot in the center of the blue diamond should have been a lighter color. One thing that I tried with this earring was not using any metallic Delicas. I usually make a point of having some metallic beads but I wanted to see how this would look. I'm undecided at this point.

  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Metallic Light Bronze" (DB22L)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Opaque Persimmon" (DB2108)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Matte Bone Glazed Luster" (DB388)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Dyed Tiffany Blue" (DB2133)

This sample earring has the same bead colors as the first one but they are arranged in a more pleasing manner. I also added some light bronze Delicas for the "fringes". I like this one very much.

  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Dyed Opaque Anemone" (DB2140)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Opaque Black" (DB10)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Nickel Plated" (DB21)

I was so unhappy with this design that I didn't bother to finish the top of it. There isn't enough contrast between the purple and black and the three "flower" shapes look too much like two eyes and a nose. I will scrap this design.

  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Metallic Light Bronze" (DB22L)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Opaque Persimmon" (DB2108)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Dyed Tiffany Blue" (DB2133)

Next I thought I'd play around with different arrangements of stripes and I'm pretty happy with this one. The only thing that I'm not sure about is near the bottom of the earring. I think there may be too many blue beads there but I'm not sure if I should add some of the rusty colored beads at the bottom point. I will make another sample and try out that idea. This color scheme isn't that great but I was just using some of the bead colors that I already had out.

  • 8/0 seed beads Toho "Nickel Plated" (711)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Opaque Limestone Luster" (DB211)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Opaque Antique Rose" (DB1376)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Nickel Plated" (DB21)

This time I tried stripes that follow the shape of the earring. I like the effect but not in these colors. After making this sample, I decided that there should be one more silver Delica at the bottom the "V" opening. You will see how that looks in the next two samples which are both based on this same striped design.

  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Metallic Light Bronze" (DB22L)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Matte Opaque Sea Foam Glazed Luster" (DB374)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Matte Galvanized Yellow Gold" (DB1833F)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Matte Galvanized Berry" (DB1838F)

Here you can see how much better the earring looks with a bronze bead in the crook of the "V". I like this colorway very much but then I've used it before to make some fringe earrings for myself. You can see them in THIS post. While I like the idea of having a thin outline of Delicas around the inside of the earring, it can tend to look wonky if the earring hasn't been shaped and stabilized perfectly. Since these are all just samples, I haven't brushed nail polish on the backs of them so that I can take them apart and re-use the beads.

  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Opaque Aloe Luster" (DB263)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Matte Bone Glazed Luster" (DB388)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Galvanized Cinnamon Brown" (DB460)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Matte Copper Plated" (DB340)

This is also a colorway that I've used before to make a pair of fringe earrings. You can see those earrings HERE. I didn't finish this sample because I knew pretty much right away that the arrangement of the colors wasn't right. I've decided that I'd rather use this colorway with a different design.

I will keep on trying more designs and see what else I can come up with. In the meantime...

To learn how to make "Russian Leaf Earrings", watch Jill Wiseman's YouTube video tutorial HERE and download her free PDF HERE. You will need to follow Jill's tutorial but make them with seven rows instead of nine as Jill instructs.

Read THIS post where I explain how I finish and reinforce my Russian Leaf earrings. I also have information about how I stiffen my earrings in THIS post.

SUPERDUO FLOWER CHAIN VARIATION
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457)
  • 12mm Czech flower button "Golden Pink Picasso"
  • SuperDuo beads "Crystal Gold Luster"

A while back Claire from Supply Emporium sent me a bunch of these pretty Czech flower buttons to use for making button clasps. I have so many of them in these two colors that I really wanted to come up with a way to make a bracelet with some of them. I looked through my patterns for ideas and the one that looked the most like it would work is my free "SuperDuo Flower Chain" pattern which you can download HERE.

Here is one of my original "SuperDuo Flower Chain" bracelets for comparison:

I kept the main SuperDuo flower motifs but replaced the connector motifs with the buttons and a few seed beads. I took photos of the bracelet from the back so that you can see how I connected the buttons to the flower motifs. Here is a close-up:

Here is the entire bracelet from the back:

Supply Emporium is out of the buttons with the pink centers but Claire does have the Aged Bronze ones HERE. Click on the "Buttons" category to see a few other nice colors.

SUPERDUO FLOWER CHAIN VARIATION
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Metallic Chocolate" (461)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Metallic Chocolate" (461)
  • 12mm Czech flower button "Aged Bronze"
  • SuperDuo beads "Chocolate Bronze"

It was challenging to find SuperDuos and seed beads that go well with these two button colors so I used basic metallics for both of them. Although the buttons in the bracelet above have some reddish coral in the centers, the over all color is neutral enough to wear this with a lot of things.
