Flying Was Always in My Future

By Raya Lieberman

For almost as long as he can remember, Gary Saul, LogTen Pro user and head of Aviation Insider, has been passionate about aviation. From spending Sunday afternoons as a toddler watching planes take off with his Gran, to aviation themed art projects in school, it was pretty much inevitable from a young age that flying would be in his future. As soon as he was able to save up the money, he started flying lessons.

Now a pilot for 8 years, Gary is living his childhood dream. His airline job means he gets to see plenty of new places, like Gibraltar and Mykonos which he likes especially because they require visual approaches and pose a bit more of a challenge.

Today, Gary is a busy guy. If he isn’t flying an a320, keeping up with his LogTen Pro logbook, or running Aviation Insider which helps clients prepare for their airline simulator assessments, you might find him playing tennis. His other childhood dream was to play sports, and though he stopped for a while, he now plays for his airline’s 6 aside club.

When asked why he uses LogTen Pro, Gary immediately pointed out its ease of use. He said “I fly with many pilots who have different variants of log books from paper to excel spreadsheets. Personally, LogTen Pro’s my favorite because it’s easy to use, always in your pocket and can instantly pull up previous flights and data for review and analysis.” Gary’s also passionate about helping the aviation industry be more environmentally friendly. When I asked him about how he imagines aviation in 100 years, he described his hope for ultra-fuel efficient aircraft, but for now he’s doing his part to save paper by logging his flights electronically.

Gary spoke highly of the many other pilots he has flown with, and when I asked who inspired him most he explained that he doesn’t have just one role model or inspiration, but that he appreciates so many captains he’s flown with who have taught him to be a better leader and pilot. We couldn’t agree more. Without so many pilots providing feedback, feature ideas, and inspiration for improving LogTen Pro since we launched version 1 in 2003, we’d never have gotten to where we are today.

Finally, I want to thank Gary for taking the time to chat with us, and also thank all of you who have made LogTen Pro a part of your life as a pilot. We’re honored. Do you want to tell us your #LogTenLife story? Get in touch – support.coradine.com

LogTen Pro & Aviation Insider Partnership

Over the past 2 years Aviation Insider and Coradine have been working together to help pilots. And we’re excited to announce that any pilot new to LogTen Pro who attends a simulator session with Aviation Insider can get a free 6 month subscription for LogTen Pro on iOS and Mac.

FYI – UK based Aviation Insider is a one-stop-shop for news, gossip, information and the latest products, including type rating question banks on the a320, a330, B737 and the Dash 8 Q400. They have more than 50 pilots/instructors and examiners for all different airlines helping pilots prepare for their airline simulator assessments. Together, Aviation Insider and LogTen Pro help prepare students and current pilots with:

  • airline simulator assessments for their airline interview and simulator assessment
  • the leading electronic logbook for Mac and iOS to track flight/duty/rest/SIM time with maximum efficiency and analytical capabilities

The Final word goes to our friends at AI:
“We’re proud to call Coradine our partners and absolutely love their easy to use reliable log book. We have trialed other versions of electronic logbooks from other companies and many are dated and hard to use. As the saying goes – you get what you pay for.” – Gary Saul, AI Management Team

Coradine is a well established company with thousands of users globally. We have a small, but dedicated, engineering team with mighty plans to further delight our customers. As a Senior Engineer on our team you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to Coradine’s success by applying your experience to further development on our native iOS and Mac applications.

You’ve been around. Maybe you’re a pilot. You love the opportunity to tackle a new feature, but just as eagerly apply yourself to help overcome technical debt and pluck bugs out of code. You’ve written Objective C to build iOS applications, integrated Swift into legacy projects, worked with CoreData and webservices. You’ve overcome obscure codesigning issues and laugh when your good pal Xcode makes funny jokes. You’re equally happy mentoring teammates, off coding on a feature branch, reviewing pull requests, or documenting that *thing*. Christmas is in June and is spelled WWDC. Keeping up on the latest developments in tech is what you do while you’re waiting for a clean build. You’re always looking to write better systems by continuing to learn and find, or build, better tools. Automation is your middle name. You like to share, and though you are opinionated you are open minded and ready to update your world view to something better.

Getting the drift?

We have a lot of very interesting and challenging things to do, and would love your assistance. Sound like your perfect gig?
