People often ask me if there is anything I miss from my “corporate days.”

The answer is yes. I miss having people around me. Entrepreneurship can be very lonely.

Don’t try to do this “entrepreneurship thing” on your own.

Your impact on your clients is like a ripple in water.
Its reach extends beyond the point of the initial impact.

When you assess the true value of your work with your customer,
you must consider both the immediate and the far reaching impact of your work.

Imagine you were suddenly presented with an empty room to use as an office space.
What would you bring in? What would you leave in your old space?

Just because you have something doesn’t mean you need to use it,
or even keep it for another time.

Let go of the guilt and give yourself space. You’ll feel better.

I remember when I went skydiving.
My heart raced, my breathing was quick, my hands were shaking. I was terrified.

Wait a minute – when I’m excited about something my heart races, my breathing speeds up,
I shake with anticipation. Hmmmmm…..

“Can I pick your brain?”

“Can I ask you a quick question?”

“Can you just give me your opinion on this?”

It’s hard to say no when someone is asking for help.
On the other hand, isn’t that what you’re supposed to be paid for?

Business owners have told me that they are afraid to pick up the phone and
make a sales call because the recipient will suspect that they want something.

Well guess what, they’re right.

Every conversation you enter has an agenda. The key is to be up front about the agenda.
Don’t pretend it doesn’t exist or that it’s something else. Everyone will be more comfortable.

You know how you can always tell if someone is
faking it, stretching the truth or downright lying to you?

Well, you know what? The people you speak with can too.

If you don’t believe in yourself and what you’re saying why should they?

Here’s an idea for you – take a minute to consider the impact you’ve already had with
clients you’ve worked with, colleagues, friends or family.

I was out for a run. A woman came up from behind and passed me. She was moving fast and gained ground with each stride. In that moment I had a few options available to me. I could ignore her completely and keep running my own race. I could give up running entirely because I would never be that fast. I could use her as an incentive to go a little faster and improve myself.

There are three things I know for sure:

1. You’re really good at what you do or you never would have started a business doing it.
2. Entrepreneurship is hard, and lonely.
3. You can’t do it alone.

For the sake of your sanity, hire someone to help you do the things that you’re not great at or aren’t the things you went into business to do. And find a group of friends or colleagues who get what you’re doing and have your back.

Who are the most important people on your team?

It feels like I’m being assaulted by all the information coming at me all the time.
What about you? Do you ever feel like you’re under attack when you open up your email?

Your clients and prospects feel the same way. Respect them.
Only send them information that is helpful to them, and keep that message
short, sweet and to the point.

Here’s something to consider – You’re better off cutting your message in half
and making it easy for your audience to take in, than keeping it long and
having the message unread and not acted on.

How precise is your messaging?
