First-time campers sometimes worry about bringing their pets camping with them. It is understandable because they are new to the area and new to camping. There are actually several ways to you can bring your furry friends along without placing them in any danger.

Keep your pet around you at all times and try not to leave them alone in the RV. Some pets can experience anxiety when their owners are away. Bring a leash and you can both enjoy relaxing walks around the campground.

Bring gloves and make sure that you check your dog for ticks periodically. Grasp the tick near the skin and slowly pull it off your pet. Never do this with your bare hands since there is a chance that these pests can give you and/or your furry friend some type of disease. Also, make sure you dispose of the gloves safely so there is no way that disease is transmitted to any other people or pets.

Carry water for your pet. They can experience tummy trouble when drinking water in a new area. Have some on hand in case you need it. You should bring a little more than they typically drink since camping may make them thirstier than usual.

There is no reason to keep your pet at home when you’re camping. They are part of your family and will enjoy the trip as much as you do.

If you want to bring the comforts of modern cooking along with you while you’re out on the campsite, a crockpot is an absolute blessing! Of course, you’ll need a solid plan for what you intend to make with it before you go out. With that in mind, here are a few great crockpot recipes for camping:

1 – Campground Crockpot Tacos

For these mouth-watering tacos, you need to throw an envelope of your favorite taco seasoning, 6 thawed boneless chicken breasts, a whole jar of salsa, and your favorite cheese dip into your crockpot. Be sure to a use a liner to help with the messy ingredients! You need to cook the contents for at least 4 hours on high.

Once your chicken is tender enough to easily shred with a fork, you’ll know it’s ready. Next up, add a cup or so of shredded Mexican cheese, guacamole or sour cream to taste, and plenty of shredded lettuce. Then, you’ll be ready to disperse the mixture between 8 to 10 warmed soft tortillas.

2 – Baked Potato Soup

Here’s one that’s perfect for cold nights! Place a healthy amount of diced and peeled russet and red potatoes into your crockpot along with garlic, plenty of chicken broth, a cup of water, and a tbsp of your favorite seasoning. You should allow it to simmer for at least 6 hours on high heat. Then, add 2 medium sized cubes of cream cheese and mix them in liberally. You can then toss the entire recipe into an immersion blender for a smoother consistency, and you should be ready to serve!

3 – Crockpot Oats

Finally, here’s an easy breakfast you can make. Place 2 peeled apples sprinkled with a tsp of cinnamon and a 1/3 cup of sugar in your crockpot, then sprinkle on 2 cups of dried oats. Next, mix in 2 cups of water, milk, and a tsp of vanilla. You can let the mixture cook overnight – around 10 hours is perfect – and serve it up hot in the morning!

You want to make sure your travel trailer is level before you enjoy using it. Here are some tips that can help you get your travel trailer level in no time.

Start By Placing Your Trailer in the Right Location
Before you can make adjustments to your travel trailer, you need to put it in the desired location. Pull your trailer into the spot and when it is in place you can start to level it.

Place a Level Across the Trailer Hitch
It’s not always easy to tell when your trailer is level. If fact, you may find it difficult to determine which adjustments need to be made if you don’t use a level. Place the level across the trailer hitch. This will help you determine whether or not the trailer hitch is level. Then, you can fix things.

Use a Board to Lift the Lower Side
You should always carry leveling boards with you. These boards must be at least 2 inches thick. You should place the boards under the tires on the lower side. This will help to level your trailer. You may need to use more than one board. Add as many boards as needed to level the trailer.

Watch Your Wheels
The last thing you want is to have your trailer roll away after you’ve parked it. Chock the trailer’s wheels after the trailer is level. Then unhitch the trailer from your towing vehicle. After you park your trailer, make sure it stays in place by following these simple steps.

Leveling a trailer can be a challenge. However, when you learn how to do it properly, in time it will become easier. All you need to do is follow these tips and you’ll be able to level your travel trailer without much difficulty. Then you can enjoy your vacation.

A tick is an annoying parasite, dependent on mammal blood to survive. They feed on cattle, cats, dogs, and humans. They use their sharp snouts to cut an incision in the skin’s surface. They embed themselves by inserting themselves into the skin and suck the host’s blood.

Since ticks are the carrier of Lyme disease, these parasites are a serious problem. Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that has symptoms that include headaches, fatigue, fever, and depression. If Lyme disease is not identified early, the symptoms may eventually affect the joints, heart, and nervous system.

If Lyme disease is detected early, it can be treated with antibiotics. However, it’s better to prevent the disease, instead of trying to cure it. So here are some ways you can prevent ticks from biting you.

Wear Light and Tight Clothes
You want to wear light colored clothes that cover your legs and arms. Light colors make it easier to see a tick if it tries to attach itself. Tight clothes make it hard for the tick to cling to your clothes.

Use Organic Repelling Oils or Insect Repellent
You can use a repelling oil or repellant on your skin and clothing to deter the parasites. Some of the most popular organic repelling oils include neem and eucalyptus oil. Ticks do not like the smell of these oils. So applying to your skin will keep the ticks from attaching to your skin.

Check For Ticks While You Hike
You should periodically check your skin and clothes for ticks when you’re out hiking. This will allow you remove the ticks before they have a chance to cling to your body.

These may sound like basic tips for repelling bugs. However, these are some of the best ways to keep ticks from biting you. This will go a long way to help prevent Lyme disease.

Cast iron is an old favorite of many campers and there is a good reason for it. It is known for being durable and is often passed from generation to generation. There are some rules for keeping it clean and rust free which we will share with you here. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy many delicious camping meals for many years in your trusty cast iron cookware.

Cleaning
It is advised to never use soap on your cast iron. The recommended method for cleaning is to pour hot water into the pan after you’ve used it and gently scrape the any food particles off the bottom (use a scratch resistant utensil). Rinse it well and wipe it dry with a paper towel.

Seasoning
Cast Iron can rust so it is important to re-season it after every use. Wipe the inside of your pan with a light coat of vegetable oil or shortening. This will seal the interior and keep moisture from forming rust.

Storing
Nesting your cast iron is a good way to keep it protected. You can place a liner of paper towel or waxed paper between pans to curtail scratches from one pan to the other.

If you take care of your cast iron it will last for many happy camping trips. There is nothing like waking up to a cast iron skillet filled with hashbrowns, bacon, and eggs, or enjoying a dinner of chicken and biscuits in a cast iron Dutch Oven. We hope you get the most out of your camping trips and the meals you cook in cast iron.

When you are camping with your RV you never know what time will you be getting in and out of the campground. Most of the new RVs have slide out rooms which means that a part of the RV slides out automatically to enhance the interior size and comfort.

There are different systems that slide the RV’s rooms out; they can be electric, hydraulic, gear driven, etc. What the system does is, it pushes the room out through a teeth/ gear metal stick of the RV by using a lot of strength, have in mind that a regular system can add up to 1500 pounds to the RV’s total weight.

Depending on the quality, a squeaky sound will start to happen when using the system in and out. Besides hearing the sound, a good way to know if it is happening or about to is to look at the metal stick for some wear generated by the scraping of the surfaces. If you found some wear, then it means that even if you do not yet hear the squeak, you are about to. Also, depending on the quality and normal wear of the windows system, there may be some squeaking there as well, since they are not as heavy as the other system it may take longer to happen and it may be quieter.

The best way to lower or even eliminate your squeaky sound is to buy either a Slide-out or Window Lube and apply it to the squeaky area. This will not only prevent the squeak but it will help the system to work better and avoid eventual break downs.

The 3-1 RV care lubricant by WD 40 (There are Slide-out and window specific versions) is one of the best ones in the market. It is not expensive and it lasts a very long time. With regular use of the RV, it should be good enough for over a year, but if you hear the squeak beginning again just re-apply and move on. It’s always a great tool to keep in your RV tool box.

Crunchy Homemade Pumpkin Granola

Toss it together with oats, some maple syrup, coconut oil, and a little salt. Then it bakes to perfection and you have to wait patiently before you can eat it.

Creamy Pumpkin Fudge
You can let go of half the guilt when you know you’re eating lots of fiber and vitamin A in this delicious fudge. Grab some pecans, olive oil, brown sugar, evaporated milk, pureed pumpkin, corn syrup, chocolate chips, marshmallow cream, vanilla and some spices. It only takes minutes to cook and can be wrapped to bring along on your camping trip.

Pumpkin Chicken Bites
These chicken nuggets will taste great and ramp up the nutrients your kids have for dinner. You’ll be boiling and mashing real pumpkin flesh until it’s mushy like mashed potatoes. You’ll use it as a dredge for your chicken pieces just before you dip them in bread crumbs. It works a charm to hold everything together and forms a wonderful crunchy crust around the nugget. The kids will be asking for more so you better make a double batch.

Enjoy the Fall root vegetables as they ripen for the season. They are flavorful, nutritious, and a nice departure from the usual menu items we eat during the summer.
