OMG!!! TORY AND JOHN ARE ENGAGED! This Georgetown proposal went off perfectly – SHE SAID YES! I met John through my sister who went to Virginia Tech and John was the best man in their wedding this past September! John reached out to me a few months ago because he was planning on proposing to his girlfriend in Georgetown! Of course I said DUH, I’ll be there!! We planned the proposal – he scouted out the location, sent me pictures of where he wanted to do it, and we talked about how they were going to be getting dinner just around the corner and he would text me the play by play!
I got to Georgetown early because, with DC on a Friday, who knows what traffic is going to be like! Of course on that Friday, there was rain on and off all day and even tornado alerts – haha! BUT, everything worked out. The rain stopped! Two of Tory’s friends met up with me so they could video the proposal on their phones. We hid in bushes next to this inn and waited for them to walk past before we hopped out of the bushes! As John bent down on one knee, Tory brought her hands to her mouth and started laugh/gasp/omg-ing. It was so cute!!!
After hugs, John pointed over to me and her friends and she ran over for big hugs!!! “BRETT! YOU’RE HERE ALL THE WAY FROM RICHMOND?!” Such a special moment to capture for the two of them! Loved the post-engagement hug photos and FaceTime call with Tory’s parents!! But that wasn’t the only surprise, we walked down to the waterfront and Tory was surprised with a group of friends at Nick’s!

Look at these newly engaged cuties! The future Mr & Mrs Matos!!! Gotta FaceTime mom… Omg, I love thisssss Surprise!
Congratulations John and Tory on your engagement!!! ENJOY this season of your engagement! I can’t wait for wedding planning with you two!!!
Remy is a fellow wedding photographer friend and her husband, Eli, owns Bright Spot coffee here in Richmond! Remy asked me if I would take some new photos of them in their new neighborhood, The Fan! I was like… duh, of course! As you can tell – these two have bright and happy personalities and it was a blast to shoot with them during golden hour around the fan. You know I’m a fan of that golden lightttt. We scoped out a few of the streets and found the perfect pink dogwood tree for a few shots! What I love about the Fan is that there are SO MANY beautiful backdrops around every corner and when you need a blank wall of literally any color, you can usually find it.
We ended their session at Scoop! I didn’t get anything but I WILL be back because I can’t say no to ice cream in a waffle cone.
Enjoy this happy Richmond couples session around the Fan!
If you’re interested in your own Richmond mini session in The Fan or elsewhere – head to the contact form at the top of the page and let’s get shootin’!
Fun fact – there was a man working on his car in the street next to us! His bumper and tools were all over the sidewalk just 1 foot out of the frame! haha! You could never know! Had to have that golden hour light!
Are we in Charleston? Nope, just Richmond!
Remy is the confetti queen – so of course we had to throw some! Don’t worry – it’s biodegradable ya’ll!
Just goofballin’ you know.
I love this photo for the dogwood canopy, white columns, American flag, and this super cute couple…
Ended the session with some ice cream at Scoop!
Work it girllllll!
I love, love, love the Fan and I loved capturing this cute Richmond couples session for Remy and Eli in their new neighborhood! Congratulations on your move and new season of life!!!
I had the opportunity to take senior photos for Hannah in Middleburg a few weeks ago! I used to babysit Hannah and her brother and sister back in the day! I used to travel with her family to the Outer Banks during my college summers to watch the kids and hangout at the beach for a week! It’s been a longgggg time since then and I probably haven’t seen Hannah in 8 years or so – what!!?! It was nice to catch up with her and hear about her interests and where she has applied for college! All her apps are in… she’s just waiting to hear! She told me she doesn’t have any particular school in mind, she just can’t wait to get accepted and choose the one that feels right.
Good luck Hannah, any school is lucky to have you!
Can’t get enough of these steps and this ivy!
Pretty much obsessed with Hannah’s gorgeous long hair! HANNAH! Never shot portraits by this spot before! Middleburg is always full of surprises! Loved these steps and the texture in that grass bush thing…
That’s a wrap for Hannah’s Middleburg portrait session!
Head on over to the contact tab to set up your own portrait session!
Okay Kayla! Are you actually a model!? Kayla was SO natural in front of the camera and so fun to photograph! Three years ago, I met Kayla when I shot her sister’s senior photos (click here to see Kendall’s session!) I can’t believe how fast time flies!!! We shot some photos around some of my favorite spots around Middleburg and discovered some new places of our own!! Give me all the ivyyyy! Then we popped out of Middleburg to find a field! I didn’t have a specific spot in mind so I kept my eyes peeled as I drove so I could pull off when I found a good spot! We pulled off the side of the road by this pretty classic black fence then popped over on the other side into some tall grass and then… well you’ll just have to keep reading to find out what had us laughing.

This girl has S T Y L E! dangggg girl! One of my favorites! Power pose! Can you believe Kayla’s hair is just NATURALLY curly/wavy like that?! When you discover the cutest little area in Middleburg… Had to take a pic with her mom and sister, Kendall, whose senior photos I took 3 years ago!!! Okay… love this one too. Yassss girl! Okay, actually I’m obsessed with this one. We started laughing because we ran across the street to get to this field. Then I made her sit but she had to sit on her coat because the ground was wet. Then out of NOWHERE this dude on a bike cycles out of the woods and past us… I guess you had to be there… it was just really funny!
