Y’ALL. Boy oh boy do I have a treat for you this week! Bill and I packed up last Friday afternoon and headed to Charleston for Morgan and Briggs’ amazing wedding day! We’ve been wanting to shoot in Charleston for a long time (I mean, photographer heaven, right?) and we are so thrilled Morgan and Briggs trusted us to capture their day! You both are so incredible and y’all have THE BEST family and friends in the world!

Morgan and Briggs live in Raleigh, so this was a destination wedding in Charleston, for pretty much everyone! The ceremony was at the ever so quaint St. Luke’s Chapel. The reception was held at The Cedar Room, located in the old Cigar Factory and featuring historic wood columns, hardwood floor and original elements of the 1881 building! AND huge windows with AMAZING natural light! It’s rustic and romantic vibes were wedding day perfection from start to finish! There was no shortage of beautiful backdrops in the city and we even found some beautiful Spanish moss to use as our backdrop! Gimme ALL the Spanish moss, Y’ALL!

This was a good one!! Enjoy!!

We asked Morgan to share some of her wedding details with us. Tell us about your dress.
I got my dress from Alexia’s bridal boutique in Raleigh, NC. It is designed by Monique Lhuillier and is actually a three-piece set. I have a skirt and corset top with a lace topper for the ceremony. It was one of the first dresses I tried on!
Tell us about the Groom’s outfit.
He will be wearing a navy tux with black trim and the groomsman will be wearing an all black tux.
Do you plan on seeing each other before the wedding?
No – we want the first time we see each other to be me walking down the aisle. We both feel it’d be more special and sentimental doing it this way.
What songs have you selected for your signature dances?
First Dance: The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra Father/Daughter Dance: It Won’t Be Like This For Long by Darius Rucker Mother/Groom Dance: Ms. Grace by The Tymes
How would you describe the overall vibe or theme of your wedding?
I would say very traditional, romantic, kind of rustic. Our flowers are white with greenery and a touch of light light pink peonies. The bridesmaid’s dresses are a pale light blue color.
We know you are super excited about getting married! What other special moments are you looking forward to?
I’m really excited about spending the day of my wedding with my family and best friends getting ready. I’m also really looking forward to enjoying myself at the reception with my new husband and getting to see everyone who came from miles away!
Will you be going on a honeymoon?
Yes! Turks and Caicos. We leave Monday after the wedding and come back that Saturday.

It’s Thursday! You know what that means! That’s right! We are so excited to share with you, Shea and Jeff’s AMAZING wedding day!! You may remember this sporty and adventurous couple from their gorgeous engagement session at the Historic Oak View Park last fall! Well, they made it official last weekend with an intimate ceremony at St. Mary’s School Chapel and a beautiful reception at The Oaks at Salem in Apex, NC. Their wedding was the quintessential Southern wedding that we live for! Carolina blue bridesmaid dresses with matching bow ties for the groom and his men gave this wedding lots of sweet southern charm! As you can see from the pictures, this couple was made for each other!! We had an incredible day with them!

We asked Shea and Jeff to tell us a little about their wedding, and this is what they told us!

How would you describe the overall vibe or theme of your wedding?
“We will be having a lot of greenery at our wedding. I would say rustic, but not too rustic at all. We really wanted a simple way to admire the outdoors since we love being outside so much. The flowers will all be blues and whites. The bridesmaids will be wearing the color ‘Carolina blue’ and the groomsmen will be wearing Navy suits. The bow ties of the groomsmen match closely to the bridesmaid’s dresses.”
Tell us about your dress. Did you get it from a bridal boutique? Who designed it?

Shea said she found her dress in Vows Bridal Outlet in Watertown, MA! It is a Badgley Mischka Blake.

Tell us about the Groom’s outfit. Is there anything unique about his attire?

Jeff is wearing an airborne bow tie to reference his time in the military and as a paratrooper. He is also wearing socks that have parachutes on them. The bow tie and socks are from Grant & Patton.

We know you are super excited about getting married! What other special moments are you looking forward to?

Shea told us, “Seeing each other for the first time in the church. The special moments of getting ready with our parents and having our first dances with them. Our first dance together being able to really cherish the moment as husband and wife. To start this next chapter together with all of our family and friends there to support us and celebrate with us. The first time we met we danced under a white tent so we are excited to do so again as our first dance.” Such amazing moments!

Will you be going on a honeymoon?

She told us, “We will be going to Greece for our honeymoon! We will be heading to Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, and Tinos for 2 weeks in June!” Take us with you! lol

I am so thrilled to share with you the beautiful and intimate wedding ceremony of Greer and Molotov at the Highgrove Estate in Fuquay-Varina, NC. This gold and white wedding was perfection from start to finish! Greer and Molotov opted to honor the British tradition of including many small children in their bridal party instead of the more American tradition of Bridesmaids and Groomsmen. As you can see from the pictures it was an absolutely precious decision. These sweet, well behaved little angels captivated the guests!

Greer and Molotov wanted to make sure that Molotov’s daughter, Ivy, was part of the ceremony so she had the special honor of singing to the couple during the ceremony. Let me just tell you, there was not a dry eye in the place! So much love and sweetness!

The Russian Orthodox ceremony was lovely and performed by the Father of the Groom and featured an elaborate tradition with crowns. It was a stunningly beautiful wedding and Bill and I were so honored to be a part of it!

We are SO EXCITED to share with you, Jenny and David’s Duke Gardens Engagement Session! We photographed this gorgeous, jet setting couple at the beautiful Duke Gardens in Durham, NC last weekend and had so much fun! Jenny and David came in from Knoxville for their engagement session and we can’t wait to head to Nashville for their wedding this October!! However, I will say when we pulled into Duke Gardens it looked straight up like DISNEY WORLD with hundreds of people EVERYWHERE. I guess going on a Saturday evening, the first semi nice weather day we had all month wasn’t the best idea? We made it work though! Can you even tell we were completely surrounded by people?!?

We just love sharing our Bow Tie couples love stories!! I mean, who doesn’t love a love story?!

Jenny shared her beautiful love story with us! Hint: You are not going to want to miss this proposal!

How did you meet?

We met via Coffee Meets Bagel- a dating app that neither of us was so sure about but turns out it was the best decision ever. We talked for a couple of weeks as both of us were traveling- him to Italy and me to Las Vegas. Once we both were back in town, we met up for wine one evening followed by a sushi date a couple of days later and the rest is history.

How did he propose?

David had a rotation in Belgium that I planned to join him on and first, we were going to Paris. We had a wonderful first day touring Notre Dame and the Louvre. We started our second day taking the hop on hop off the bus all over Paris then concluded our day with an evening bike tour of Paris… however, this bike ride did not happen. I lost my balance on my bike and broke my ankle. We went to the ER in Paris where I was told I needed surgery and David ultimately had to splint my ankle. I decided to have surgery back home in Atlanta- cutting the trip short. Little did I know David had planned on proposing the next day in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Once we left the hospital and got back to our Airbnb, it was nearly 3 am. We were in disbelief and exhausted. David turned everything around when he dropped down to his knee at my bedside and proposed. I could not believe what was happening. We called our families and friends to tell them the amazing news. The next day we still went to the Eiffel tower, took a boat ride on the Seine River, and toured a few museums.

What are your favorite things to do together?

Traveling near or far, trying new restaurants, hiking and being outside, going to the gym together and going to movies!

Happy Spring! Get excited for this one, y’all!! With rising temperatures and blooming trees, this Downtown Raleigh NC Engagement Session was the perfect location to capture Jessica and JD! I am absolutely THRILLED to share with you this AMAZING couple and of course their sweet pup, Isabelle! How perfect is she? I swear she smiled at me!! She was such a champ – and just hung out next to me when we weren’t using her! What dog does that?!? Isabell does!! I know I say it ALL the time, but we have the most INCREDIBLE clients!!

Jessica and JD looked simply stunning and braved through the pollen like champions! We had so much fun and I just love these two!!

We asked Jessica about their love story and this is what she told us!

How did you meet?

We met when I was working at Guilford Neurological in the front office and he was a pharmaceutical sales rep calling on that office. We remained friends for 3 years before dating.

How did he propose?
In Napa Valley! : ) We always do a trip over labor day and last year I did not feel like planning the trip so I left it up to him and to surprise me on the destination. Little did I know that not only was the destination a surprise but so was the proposal. The last day of our trip a private car service picked us up and took us to our first winery of the day. We had a beautiful vineyard to ourselves with a private tour guide (who was also in on the surprise). He popped the question overlooking the valley before our tour to get his nerves out of the way. I had no clue!!
What are your favorite things to do together?
Travel, work out, watch Netflix, & we are big foodies! Love trying new things!
Bill and I can’t wait for their wedding at Bay 7 in just 6 months! It’s going to be a good one, y’all!!

We were so EXCITED to kick off our 2019 wedding season with Amberly and Chris at The Merrimon-Wynne House in Downtown Raleigh, NC! It was a gorgeous wedding even though it was a bit on the rainy side! And by bit I mean it rained. all. day. long.

Amberly and Chris planned their wedding to be romantic, elegant, and – most importantly – FUN!  Both, Amberly and Chris have a preference for very clean color palettes so everything was neutral with lots of whites, grays, and dusty blues. The groomsmen and bridesman were in classic black tuxedos and the bridesmaids were in a beautiful palette of blues.

We asked Amberly to tell us about her dress! She told us she bought my dress and veil from Coral Gables Bridal, a boutique back in her hometown of Miami, FL. Both were designed by Pronovias which only felt fitting since she will be married in a dress made in Spain. Amberly is incredibly proud of her Cuban and Spanish background so it was really important to find as many ways as possible to honor that throughout the big day.

Amberly and Chris opted for a first touch instead of the first look. She told us, “They thought a lot about it, but there’s just something so special about our eyes meeting for the first time as we’re moments away from being husband and wife. We’re really looking forward to having the first touch be an opportunity to check in with one another and have a special moment between just the two of us before we see each other at the church.”

When we asked her what moment she was most excited to experience, she told us, she was so excited for the moment those church doors open and they see each other for the first time. They were also so ready to party the night away with their family and friends – a group that likes to have a good time so it was a fun reception. They sure did have FUN! It was an epic party!

They selected the song, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” by Joseph Vincent for their first dance. She told us that, while going on long car rides, there’s always a point where this song comes up on their playlist. When it does and the chorus hits, Chris always belts it out exchanging the word “baby” for “Amby” – her nickname. It’s always brought a smile to her face and reminds them of a lot of fun and happy times together.

They will be honeymooning in Antiqua where they have assured us they will be laying on the beach for a full week! This will be their first big trip together so they are so excited to get some sun, enjoy the Caribbean blue water, and have some quality time.

Bow Tie Collaborative | Brilliant Ring Shots | Freebie

Hello Friends! I’m so glad you are here! I knew those sparkly rings would get your attention!

Now that we are friends, I can let you in on a little secret…I use to dread this time of the wedding day. I mean here you are, the guardians of the rings have relinquished their power and let you borrow them to take photographs. You have gathered all their pretties, invitation suite, bouquet, shoes, jewelry etc. and you have only a few minutes to create these unique vignettes of their gorgeous rings.  You have to push all the other wedding day stress out of the way and instantly become creative! No biggie, Right?… Wrong! It was a huge biggie for me. So I decided to attack it like I did the other parts of the day and came up with a game plan that would always work and relieve some of that pressure! I mean seriously if we can relieve some stress why the heck wouldn’t we?

Just like the way you studied posing, you need to think it through and make a playlist in your head. You want it to become second nature for you. I want it to become a time when you can step back take a breath and focus on some beautiful things that will add so much value to your client’s experience.

Ring and detail shots are SO IMPORTANT! Not only to your clients but also to you! Ring and detail shots are great for social media posting, your portfolio and they add interest and excitement to your wedding blogs as well as to your client wedding gallery and album. It could also mean the difference between getting your work published or rejected! Yes, I know that sounds harsh, but I want you to know the truth.

So, let’s jump right in and talk about creating ring shots. I can’t wait for you to download my free, “How I Create Brilliant Ring Shots…and How You Can, Too!”

There’s always something that you can capture to create gorgeous detail shots, whether it’s fabric, jewelry, or nursery details. I am so excited to finally write this blog post and share our in-home newborn session!! Our sweet Lucy Burke is here!! Well, she’s actually been here for SIX weeks now (OMG y’all it goes so fast) but I’m finally sitting down and making myself blog her newborn photos! Ohhh, how I love these photos!! These were taken by my dear friend and college roommate, Mariah! Mariah is a photographer in Danville, VA and is all sorts of amazing! I mean just LOOK AT THESE. We used Lucy Burke’s nursery for the majority of our session and all I feel is white on white on white on white #WINNING.

Lucy Burke made her entrance into the world on November 27th, 2018 at 8:09 PM. She weighed 7 lbs 7 oz and was 20 inches long! James is absolutely smitten with her and the moment he met her in the hospital will forever be one of my favorite life moments. Each day that goes by I truly don’t know what we did before she was here. I look at her and can’t believe she’s ours and that we get to keep her. I do know that God is great, we are SO very blessed and I am so thankful to be your Mama, my sweet Lucy Burke.

Our In-Home Newborn Session | Lucy Burke | Raleigh, NC

This is one of my very favorites…I can’t believe I have CHILDREN! I’m pretty sure this incredibly genuine smile of James’ came from Mariah WACKING her head on the ceiling fan above her. Haha whoopsies!
