Shorts aren’t the only item getting a little extra length this season. Dresses and skirts in a midi length are taking over both in street style and formal wear. Everything from one-shoulder tops and flutter sleeves to puffed shoulders and off-the-shoulder numbers is taking over this summer. It’s an easy way to take a familiar piece like a t-shirt or a tank and freshen it up. This romantic trend is perfectly suited for elevating your street style or adding a sassy element to your next night out. Rule of thumb: don’t be afraid to go a little bit extra. The bigger the statement, the better!

 

Vintage Florals

If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a million times–florals are trending (and forever will be). There’s something inherently timeless about florals but we love the fresh new ways they’re constantly being reinvented. This season, it’s vintage-inspired prints that are taking over. Oversized tropical prints are being swapped for dainty bouquets and romantic florals for a softer take on this classic pattern. Try out pieces with roses, daisies or wildflowers on flowing silhouettes to totally nail the look.

Calling all petite ladies! Got short girl problems? Yep, me too. With a standing height of 5’2″ (though my doctor tells me 5’1.5″ and just won’t give me the half inch), I’ve developed some fashion hacks over the years to accentuate my petite body type.  Essentially, what this means is that I wear silhouettes that define my waist and enhance my leg length. I had the opportunity to head to the Wantable headquarters to try on some of their petite-friendly styles recommended by their stylists. After having some fun in the photo studio, I picked out my favorite outfits to share. That’s right–the lady featured below is yours truly! Read on for some awesome outfit ideas and tips on how to dress for a petite body type.

 

1. Wear long vests with high waisted denim

Starting out with a bang! This outfit was my absolute favorite out of all of the looks. Whenever I can, I try to wear long pieces that elongate my body. It can be tough to do this without giving the appearance that I’m wearing an ill-fitted item that is unintentionally too long (I’m looking at you, midi-dresses). Wearing a long open vest is one of the best hacks to looking taller. The long length elongates my frame without hiding my waistline. Tuck your top into high waisted denim under the vest for the ultimate long leg illusion.

 

2. Wear dresses that stop just above the knee

I have found that the just-above-the-knee length is the optimal dress length for my height. This hemline is a great style that shows off my legs to add some length to my frame while still staying work-appropriate. Plus, adding nude heels to the bare leg offers the optical illusion of never-ending legs!

 

3. Pull up waistbands to hip length

Whenever possible, I try to can elongate the leg line and shorten the torso. Proportion is everything! But if you’re a short girl like me, most tops fall below my waist. Sigh. On the bright side, if your top has a waistband, you’re in luck! Fight the impulse to pull the waistband down all the way and instead shimmy it up to your hips. The elastic will keep your top at the perfect length. Don’t forget to cuff your jeans to avoid the dreaded bunching at your ankles.

 

4. Wear striped denim with a cropped jacket

When I tried on these jeans, I did not want to take them off. The jeans not only fit my short legs perfectly in terms of inseam, but they also have electric yellow stripes running down each leg. Stripes running down the seam of your jeans will visually extend the leg while a cropped silhouette adds a flattering and on-trend dimension to your outfit. Pair these two styles together and you’ve got it made!

 

5. Turn a blouse into a tie waist top.

You already know by now (after I’ve repeated myself a million times) that showing off the waistline is a surefire way to visually extend the legs. I own so many tops that would fall perfectly at the waist on a taller girl but hang too low on me. The solution? Unbutton the bottom two or three buttons on your blouse and tie the loose ends together for a cute way to make a too-long top more flattering for your body type.

Pair a colorful chino with a boldly printed top and a black blazer for an insanely stylish work-to-wherever look.

There are definitely moments when it feels like you just can’t catch a break (we’ve all been there). The last thing you want to worry about is what outfit you’re going to wear–especially if you also have little ones you have to get dressed. A simple t-shirt dress with a classic denim jacket is the perfect (and extremely comfortable) combo for those days where it’s hard to change out of your jammies.

 

Not a Regular Moto Jacket. A Cool Moto Jacket.

Okay, all moto jackets are cool in our opinion, but this pastel color really packs a punch. Finish your look with a printed blouse and clean black denim. Much like all of the kick-butt moms running the world, this ensemble exudes an unstoppable attitude. Concert outfit? Check. Dinner date? Check. While many of us are dutifully trying to decrease our phone usage, I have to admit there is one area that I am proud to log some extra screen time in: exercise apps. I have several on my phone right now and they have totally helped motivate me to workout harder and longer while adding some much-needed variety to my fitness routine. There are loads of exercise apps out there for just about every goal under the sun, but these 5 make it to the top of my list because they are effective (and fun) for any fitness fanatic.

I also love BBG (Bikini Body Guide) because it’s so easy to do from home. The best part? BBG workouts are usually 28 minutes whereas PWR can take 55 minutes to complete.

Simple to use and refreshingly customizable, this app is perfect for someone that would like to begin exercising but doesn’t know where to start. My favorite part is that you can customize your own program by choosing workouts for the core, butt, legs, etc. based on your personal goals. I also love that workouts progressively become more difficult as you go so you will never hit a workout plateau.

So, you’re not the biggest fan of working out, eh? That’s okay–you are most definitely not alone in this thinking! I mean, why work out when there are about a billion other things on your to-do list, right? But here’s the thing: working out is essentially free therapy and great for the mind, body, and soul. If you are struggling to find the motivation or desire to exercise, we’ve got you covered here with some tips on making working out a part of your daily routine.

 

Pencil it in.

As a busy mom who works from home, I can totally relate when people say there simply isn’t enough time in the day to work out. So what do I do to combat this mentality? I literally write my workouts into my daily schedule. To me, the benefits (both physically and mentally) of working out are just as important as that work call that I have scheduled or the deadline that’s fast approaching. If it’s written into my calendar as part of my day, I am far more likely to get it done, and I am always happy I did!

 

Remind yourself of your “why.”

To me, this is SUCH a powerful tool to really getting your body moving: Remembering your “why”- or the reason you want to lead a healthy lifestyle. Do you want to feel better from the inside out? Is it to be a good role model for your kids? Are you hoping to feel younger and more energetic? Whatever your reason, remind yourself of that whenever you’re having trouble starting.

 

 

Join a gym.

If you’re paying to do something, you are far more likely to actually do it! By paying a membership to a gym or fitness group, you will find yourself showing up a lot more. Think about it, if you don’t show up, you’re literally throwing money away (and nobody wants to do that).

 

Have an accountability partner.

This one is so helpful. Have a friend, family member or significant other who you can text back and forth to motivate each other to work out. Having an accountability partner is a game changer. I highly recommend finding someone to text words of encouragement throughout the day to keep you accountable and make sure you don’t quit. This might be the push you need to get moving in the morning!

Celebrating and taking care of the Earth doesn’t have to be limited to one day, but I love that we get to show the planet some extra love on April 22nd. It’s a particularly powerful day when you think about the fact that people from all over the globe are working towards the same goal. Whether you celebrate Earth Day with family, friends, or take on a solo mission, there are many ways to show your gratitude that are both fun and impactful.  Here are a few easy to implement ideas that you can do 365 days a year:

Spring Clean

We’ve all been to the beach and seen trash left behind. You pick it up, throw it out and move on with your day. What if you started to make a habit of doing an hour or two of that? What a huge difference that can make! Of course, you can clean up any public area near you. Grab some friends, meet up at your favorite local haunt and brighten it up.

 

Go Dark

One of the most memorable Earth Day activities I’ve had was from my early adulthood. I lived with 5 girls and we turned off all the electricity in the house and didn’t use devices. In honor of “Earth Hour,” we just talked by candles. We ate snacks that required no electricity to make and had so much fun turning-off for a bit and simply connecting with each other.

 

 

Shop With a Reusable Bag

Shopping with a reusable bag replaces disposing of so many of the paper and plastic bags you get at the grocery store or a boutique. Offered in many colors and designs, they even look stylish as you head around town picking up your necessities. Ride Your Bike

You’ve likely seen or even participated in a ‘ride your bike day’ in some capacity whether it be at work or school, but did you keep the momentum going? I use mine daily to get around our city and it’s allowed us to be a one car family which has been impactful for the planet and our family budget as well as being loads of fun for the kids and their friends. Of course, that’s not possible for everyone depending on your climate, but there’s bound to be more eco-friendly (and fun) ways you can get around when weather permits.
