Seating Matters was founded by the Tierney family after Martina Tierney, an Occupational Therapist of more than 30 years, found it difficult to get chairs to meet the pressure management, postural support and comfort needs of her patients.
Christine suffers from Parkinson’s disease and osteoporosis. Her living room recliner causes pain and she is often found slumped and falling sideways. Her elderly husband wants to care for her at home.
Sarah was periodically assessed over 2 months in her care home. She was a 62 year old resident with early Alzheimer’s and limited mobility. She sat in a standard wooden frame chair used in many nursing homes which was much too wide for her size.
Martha, an 84 year old female with a history of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), had rheumatoid arthritis, was a high falls risk and used a stand aid for all transfers. She also had a history pressure ulcers on her sacrum, having delicate skin which would mark or bruise easily.
