After an hour and a half of slinging it with bar amateurs and professionals alike, Liquor Lab and ANGOSTURA® bitters added a diverse lineup of cocktails to each attendee’s repertoire. Liquor Lab’s Freddie Sarkis and The House of ANGOSTURA’s Chief Mixologist Raymond Edwards made impressive bartenders out of some of our favorite NYC journalists and influencers by providing step-by-step instructions for shaking, dashing and garnishing their way to the perfect Citrus Fizz, MercaMadrid Ring, Angostura Sour and Old Fashioned cocktails.
Check out the attendees’ flops, successes and favorite moments below:
The master class included ANGOSTURA history lessons highlighting our Trinidadian roots, as well as photo ops galore with our Gifyyy booth, mini bitters display and cocktail photobooth. Extending a huge thank you to all who participated and to Liquor Lab, who will continue to include ANGOSTURA bitters – the essential ingredient – in their cocktail classes all year long.
You can find a selection of their classes to enjoy here, where you can play mixologist with our bitters and fix yourself some handcrafted cocktails. If you’re not able to pop into a Liquor Lab location, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the fun. Instead, we invite you to give it a go from the comfort of your own bar cart! We’re excited to share that The House of ANGOSTURA has teamed up with the talented cocktail creators at Liquor Lab to demonstrate how real cocktails are made through a unique, interactive beverage experience.
As Liquor Lab’s official bitters partner, ANGOSTURA bitters will dash their way into a variety of cocktails including classics like the Old Fashioned, low-ABV options such as the MercaMadrid Ring and a few up-and-coming signature cocktails (we’re looking at you, Citrus Fizz!).
To celebrate our partnership, Liquor Lab’s Freddie Sarkis and Angostura’s Chief Mixologist Raymond Edwards will come together at the Liquor Lab Soho storefront on June 13 to teach a master class on the art of crafting the perfect cocktail. Stay tuned to our Instagram Stories for a behind-the-scenes look as industry experts and a few journalists take on this step-by-step cocktail experience brought to life by the essential ingredient – ANGOSTURA aromatic or orange bitters.
It’s a wrap on Bar Covent Brooklyn 2019! Two days of meeting and talking with the best bartenders and mixologists in the craft has left us inspired. Not to mention we also had a pretty great time hosting attendees at our booth and showing them how both a cocktail and an experience can always benefit from some ANGOSTURA bitters, rums and amaro. Here were some of the highlights:
We kicked off day one with a refreshing welcome cocktail served up by none other than the House of ANGOSTURA’s Chief Mixologist, Raymond Edwards: the Amaro Highball. Some Amaro di ANGOSTURA topped with ANGOSTURA Lemon, Lime and Bitters soda got the party started off right. Throughout the day at our booth, we crafted three signature cocktails for attendees to enjoy: Trinidad Sours, Orange Daiquiris and Bitter Clippers. We also had a visit from an esteemed guest, Global Rum Ambassador, Ian Burrell, who stopped by for a few sips of ANGOSTURA rum and a chat with Raymond and our team.
Everyone came for the cocktails, and if we’re being honest, they stayed for the cocktails, too, but maybe also the mini bitters bottles and to snap a GIF at our Gifyyy booth!
Our Day 2 cocktail menu was equal parts classic and innovative, with the Bitter Last Word, Citrus Fizz and an iconic Trinidadian specialty, the Queen’s Park Swizzle. We also had a blast with Greg Titan of How to Drink, who took over our Instagram for the day as he got behind the bar and tried his hand at our signature cocktails. To close out a great day and an unbelievable show, our chief mixologist, Raymond Edwards, took the stage to educate his audience about the growing trend of Low and No-ABV cocktails that has swept the bar and beverage industry. His seminar explored key techniques and ingredients bartenders can swap out to give the customers who request these drinks an experience they won’t soon forget. He also shared tips on how those who don’t abstain from spirits can try to incorporate these low-ABV cocktails into their repertoire to balance out a couple of Old Fashioneds or to take a slow and steady approach to imbibing responsibly.
While this year’s show went by way too quickly, we thank everyone who popped into our booth for a quick sip and some memories. We hope you’ll continue to follow along with us both here and on our social channels throughout the year until we meet again!
Next week, we’ll be slinging cocktails and dashing with the best of ‘em, by which of course we mean the movers and shakers of the bar and beverage industry at Bar Covent Brooklyn(BCB). Each year, this event brings global cocktail artists and premium brands together to unpack the trends driving our industry and the kinds of cocktails you all enjoy when you head out (or stay in) for a memorable night. In short, it’s an admirable excuse to explore and appreciate cocktail culture at its very finest while learning the latest tricks of the trade.
Our Chief Mixologist, Raymond Edwards, will be onsite showcasing a less-is-more approach to imbibing during his seminar on June 12 (5:30-6:15pm at Demonstration Stage 2 – Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse), Macro-Trend Review: Low-Abv Cocktail Strategies for Bartenders, which will focus on the growing low-ABV and spirit-free cocktail movement. To help demystify the mindful drinking revolution, Raymond will highlight techniques and ingredients you can use to swap out high-proof spirits for low/no-ABV flavors and textures with personality. He’ll also discuss how bartenders and mixologists alike can create and promote these kinds of offerings to their customers who may be looking for a top-notch, spirit-free experience as they head out to their favorite bars and restaurants or opt to imbibe off-premise.
If you’ll be joining us at BCB, be sure to check out Raymond’s seminar and visit us at booth #205! As always, we’ll come bearing some signature cocktails that aren’t to be missed. If you’ll be watching from the sidelines this year, fear not – we’ve got you covered. You can tune into our Instagram Stories @angosturahouse on June 11 and 12 for a front row seat to all the action. You’ll want to be watching when we turn our channel over to a special guest on Wednesday. Take it from us, it’s someone who really knows how to drink.
Until then, we’ll just be here counting down the days. See you in Brooklyn!
Another day, another cocktail that needs our help. It was no surprise to us when celebrated Chef José Andrés stopped by “The Ellen Show” last week to make a vegan Pisco Sour with ANGOSTURA® in hand. A few dashes of our aromatic bitters were just what he needed to add the final touch.
The Pisco Sour originated in Peru, where it is now the beloved national drink. Delicately balancing the sharpness of Pisco with froth and a touch of sweetness, it delivers a complicated and satisfying flavor. Cocktail connoisseur Duggan Mcdonnell once called it “Latin America’s most elegant cocktail,” but even the most storied of cocktails can benefit from a new twist.
In his Ellen segment, Chef Andrés taught the audience how to rethink classic food and drink favorites using plant-based alternatives. The frothy consistency provided by egg whites in a traditional Pisco Sour, for example, was imitated using fresh aquafaba (chickpea juice). But as Chef Andrés reminded us, one essential ingredient must remain – ANGOSTURA bitters.
Watch the full segment on EllenTube and check out his recipe for your next at-home cocktail. Looking for a more traditional Pisco Sour recipe? Find our recipe below.
Chef José Andrés’ Pisco Sour Recipe:
3 oz Pisco

This week, we are thrilled to take part in Old Fashioned Week 2018, a celebration of one of the most iconic cocktails taking place around the world from November 1-10! Okay, so it’s a little more than a week, but we’re not complaining; in fact, we’d argue this cocktail deserves it.
For the past five years, the Old Fashioned has been named the top-selling and most popular cocktail in the world. Like ANGOSTURA® bitters, the Old Fashioned first hit the cocktail scene during the 1800s. While it has evolved quite a bit over the several decades, it remains a beloved staple that is true to its roots.
The Old Fashioned is featured at nearly every bar, and many establishments even present their own twists on the classic. Whether you order it with whiskey, rum or tequila – garnished with an orange peel or an orange slice, maraschino or Luxardo cherries – there is one thing about the cocktail that has never changed throughout its rich history. The Old Fashioned has never been complete without ANGOSTURA bitters. Without them, it simply isn’t an Old Fashioned, and any connoisseur would attest to that.
That’s why we’re excited to join with bars from across the country to pay homage to the cocktail that brought us all together. Check out the list to see which bars in your neck of the woods are running special promotions in honor of Old Fashioned Week!
Refined as it may be, one of the beauties of the Old Fashioned is its simplicity, creating the perfect opportunity to dust off your bar cart and build one at home. Watch our video as we break down three different ways to enjoy an Old Fashioned and follow along with us on social media throughout the week as we raise our glasses to one of our favorite cocktails. Cheers!
