This kitchen remodel is one for the books (or for the blog, if you will)!! Once a crowded and dated track home kitchen, this bright and spacious room is now the focal point of the home. Bonus: we got to work with the sweetest clients!
If you haven't already peaked ahead, scroll on for the "before" picture -- it's a good one!
At first sight, we knew there would be major changes in store to update this kitchen -- a challenge we were up for! We found great potential in the size of the space and the clients' dream to bring in a brighter palette. Removing the peninsula counter opened up the room allowing for more ways to navigate around the kitchen and into the surrounding living areas. It also freed up the left wall to become home to large appliances without taking up any of the precious square footage. We replaced the existing island with a larger one that offered convenient work space, storage and seating -- three in one! Shifting around the appliance locations and storage allowed us to create a natural flow for our clients to enjoy day-to-day and when entertaining. Moving the stove and hood from the old island to the back wall opened the overhead space for beautiful light fixtures to hang center stage above the quartz countertop. French oak flooring, classic counter stools and textured subway tiles modernized the space while playing up its traditional roots. Finally, fresh paint, watered glass cabinet doors and polished nickel hardware completed the design with a sophisticated touch.

The greatest of great rooms in scale and sophistication is right at home in Project Newport Waterfront. The vast, open floorpan called for creativity to thoughtfully fill the space while keeping seating arrangements intimate. A double sectional layout on one end of the room provides a casual and cozy place to unwind, watch TV and take in the views. Four tufted leather chairs offer a more formal sitting area to catch up with guests and, again, take in the views! Large (and incredibly soft) area rugs anchor each of the furniture arrangements to stand alone while the fabrics and finishes complement each other in the shared space. A full bar and wine wall add more interest to the room with a mix of textures, finishes and styles. Bohemian beaded light fixtures above the streamlined countertop finished with metallic tiles and velvet swivel barstools are a testimony to the fun we had in this design process. We weren’t the only ones taking full advantage of the coolness our clients desired — Infinity Aquariums created a 1,200-gallon salt water tank complete with a custom, handmade coral reef and a Tesla battery back up. We think “great” may be an understatement for this room, but have a look for yourself and let us know what you think in the comments below!
Here we go again… another fun Halloween Costume Party at Blackband Design! This year we got our dancin’ queens on in ABBA-inspired outfits + a whole bunch of glitter! We hope everyone’s having a happy Halloween!!
We’re starting this week off with a BANG sharing part one of our room-by-room reveal of Project Newport Waterfront — a freshly completed custom home on the bay that we had the honor of designing with architect Rob Sinclair, builder Andrew Patterson and incredible clients with a vision that came to life!
First up in this reveal series, we have the Master Suite consisting of a private sitting room, spacious bedroom and luxury bathroom. This serene retreat is grand in size and spectacular in the quality of every detail, yet kept casual and inviting with its cozy textures, relaxed furnishings and playful personal touches. Deep earth tones used throughout the space soften the black and white framework and reflect the natural beauty of the harbor views surrounding. A whimsical canopy bed claims the spotlight and sets the stage for a dreamy atmosphere. Sunlight pours into the rooms through walls of steel-framed windows, and a skylight over the tub illuminates the pristine bathroom lined with sleek finishes and resort-like amenities. There’s no doubt this master suite is a paradise in a class of its own!
That’s right! Our showroom is currently showcasing a selection of limited edition prints photographed, printed, framed and hung by local artist JP Greenwood. These classic coastal scenes carry the bright and airy aesthetic that we all know and love making them a go-to choice for our design team + clients. Now is the time to fill your empty walls or add to your art collection, because these prints are 20% off in our showroom only!!
Come + check them out!!
