Badminton Canterbury’s AGM will be held on Monday 15th April at 7.30pm, upstairs at Badminton Hall, 220 Pages Road.

We would love to have all of our affiliated clubs represented at the AGM. So we can ensure voting rights are allocated per the constitution, can each club please reply to office@badmintoncanterbury.com by Wednesday 10th April with who will be representing them, and how many members were paid up for 2018? (please note that this is not casuals or attendees at your club sessions, but people who have paid an annual subscription to belong to the club).

BC is also calling for nominations for the board – we do have one of our long term board members stepping down, and it would be great to see some new faces on the board, and also from a variety of clubs. The board meets once a month for approx 2-3 hours in the evening. More info is available on our website at https://badmintoncanterbury.com/board/. Either fill in the nomination form online, or complete a nomination forms and return to either office@badmintoncanterbury.com or manager@badmintoncanterbury.com, or drop in the results box in the hallway at Badminton Hall.

John Morrish (Chair) lizandjohnmorrish@yahoo.co.nz or Lou Satherley (Acting Manager, past Board member) 027 268 9537 or manager@badmintoncanterbury.com

We look forward to you joining us at the AGM.

Shuttle Time Activator – Part Time/Casual

Shuttle Time is the entry level programme for badminton in New Zealand.

Badminton Canterbury are seeking dynamic, self-motivated people to deliver Shuttle Time to primary and secondary schools students.  Full training in Shuttle Time is provided, and there is excellent mentoring and coach resources available . Badminton experience is not essential, but the successful applicants will have a proven track record in coaching or delivery of other programs to young people. Your ability to engage with school aged pupils and give them a fun experience is essential.

We have a team of Shuttle Time coaches who work on an as needed basis—we make bookings for our coaches into school and community settings well in advance. This would suit people who are available school hours or after school times. Generally we try to book our coaches close to the area they are in but as there is gear to move around you will need your own reliable transport.

Applications close February 13th 2019. Please send a covering letter and CV to: Canterbury Shuttle Time Activator shuttletime@badmintoncanterbury.com

Both A and B grade have declined in numbers for quite a few years, until last year when BC trialed the “boxed” competition, to mixed feedback. In contrast, the winter competitions of Doubles 1 and 2 Interclub and Social Interclub, along with Summer League, have continued to grow year on year.

Both Canterbury senior and junior rep teams are competing successfully in their respective South Island and National competitions, but to continue to grow the sport in both numbers participating and the strength of our representative teams, it is widely acknowledged that we need a strong weekly competition.  To this end, we are seeking player feedback – from past players of A & B grade, all our potential rep players, Summer League players, Clubs, and any one with an interest in the competition. We want to run a competition that our players want to take part in.

Please answer as many questions as you wish, we are collecting names in case we want to go back to people for clarity or further info and for the prize draw, however these will be held confidentially by the BC Manager (as in names will be removed from data before it is used). The results of the survey will be put back out to players and clubs early in the new year for further feedback.

This survey will take you no more than 10 minutes to complete. Everyone who completes a survey will go in the draw to win one of these prizes:
• $50 petrol vouchers (2 to be won)
• $50 light card money at Badminton Hall (3 to be won)

Click the button on the right to take the survey, or if that doesn’t work copy and paste this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/V2STYRG
