May’s New Moon falls at 14°10′ of the sign of Taurus, on 5 May 2019 at 8:45 am in Sydney, Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). In other parts of the world, it falls on 4 May at 3:45 pm in Los Angeles, 4 May at 6:45 pm in New York, and on 4 May at 11:45 pm in London.

New Moons are a time when the Sun and the Moon come together (a conjunction) in the sky, and a time to set an intention for the new emotional cycle ahead. The New Moon is in Taurus, the first Earth sign of the zodiac, and the first sign of the Fixed modality.

The Fixed modality signifies the middle of the seasons, with the Fixed energy sustaining and preserving that which is initiated in the Cardinal phase. The Earth element represents stability, predictability, groundedness and practicality.

Some keywords for Taurus include: patience, steadfastness, reliability, sensuality and self-indulgence. Taureans can be resilient, even stubborn and inflexible, cautious, methodical, deliberate, and enjoy the comforts of life.

Affirmations around sensual pleasure, contentment, material comforts, perseverance, worth and value – including money and self-worth, and contentment are areas to focus on when setting your intention for this New Moon.

Taurus is ruled by the planet Venus (which co-rules Libra), and is associated with love, partnerships, beauty, sensuality, money, values and pleasure. At this New Moon, Venus is in the Firey sign of Aries, where the pace of Venusian pursuits may speed up. Venus is also moving towards a tense square aspect to Saturn in Capricorn, indicating we need to move more steadily towards our goals, which can be frustrating.

This is also the first Taurus New Moon with change agent Uranus making his way through the sign, disrupting the affairs of the house area it falls in. The key is to be flexible in relation to your plans.

Where does this New Moon fall in your chart:

1st house: A new self-image and being more serious when reaching out into the world. Increased self-sufficiency and independence.

2nd house: Managing physical resources more conservatively, frugality when purchasing material items, spending money on things that are practical. Learning about our innate skills and talents, and what is of value to us.

3rd house: Being more reserved about our ideas, the way we think, our communication patterns. Taking a course which could lead to a career, changes in neighbourhood and more short trips due to work commitments, contraction in a sibling relationship.

4th house: Home – downsizing the home environment, renovations, need for tradition, and a secure place to belong.

5th house: Turning a hobby or area of creative self-expression into a career, becoming more responsible for children, teaching children, committing to taking courses in art, drama.

6th house: More responsibility in day-to-day work and routines, fewer colleagues in your team. Health – could be related to structures in our body – teeth, bones.

7th house: More commitment in relationships. If single, possibility of a new relationship with an older, more mature person.

8th house: Guardedness in emotional intimacy. Issues may arise around the areas of death, inheritances, wills, legal issues with joint property or other shared resources.

9th house: Travel or move overseas for career, higher learning (university, religion, philosophies) to improve status and position.

10th house: Promotion in career and social position, more authority and leadership, new career move, improved public standing, productivity in your vocation. Workplace may contract – closure of office branches for example.

11th house: Increased duties as part of a group or community. Friendships and your social circle may decrease in size, become more autocrat, controlled or ordered.

12th house: Structure connections with the inner self. Start a meditation routine, study tarot or the metaphysical realm. Resolve ancestral issues.

The next lunation is a Full Moon in Scorpio on 18 May 2019.

Eclipse season continues! Following the recent New Moon total solar eclipse, the Full Moon and partial lunar eclipse this month occurs on Wednesday 17 July 2019, with the Moon at 24°04′ Capricorn and the Sun in the opposite sign of Cancer at 24°04′, which is exact at 7:38 am Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) (see chart below).

It is exact in Los Angeles on July 16 at 2.38 pm (PDT), in New York at on July 16 at 5:38 pm (EDT) and in London on July 16 at 10:38 pm (BST).

This eclipse falls close to the planet Pluto and on the South Node of the Moon. This further signifies endings, culminations, closures and deeply emotional and transformational change. Where do you need to release and let go of anything outworn in your life? Or, do you have a talent or gift which is ripe for release and illumination? Pluto likes to excavate and bring to light (consciousness) that which has been buried in the dark (the unconscious). Taboos and secrets could also be revealed.

The Moon in Capricorn is not happy in her place of detriment or exile, were she does not feel ‘at home.’ To feel attachment and bonding here we must must follow the rules, and the guidelines, structures and boundaries laid down for us by those in authority – or the ‘conditional parent.’ The Sun in Cancer is emotionally warm and open-hearted, nurturing and protective of family and clan, and those considered to be clan.

Where do we need to question the rules about parental conditioning, releasing that austere, rigid parent within, so we can develop the sensitive caring and parenting of ourselves and others with unconditional love, emanating from the heart.

You may be also be thinking more broadly about your home and personal or family life, and the need to shine your light involving issues around nurturing, caring and protecting those you love (Sun in Cancer) as opposed to where you need to feel secure in controlling and ordering your work, career, status and achievements in the world (Moon in Capricorn). In particular, you may be reflecting on whether you have the balance right in your inner and outer worlds.

There could therefore be a push-pull between feelings of emotional attachment and involvement with clan, versus pragmatic productivity, self-sufficiency, ambition and independence in the professional world.

Saturn-Pluto conjunction

At a broader level, Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, is widely conjunct Pluto (and the Moon at this time), an aspect that will become exact on January 12, 2020 at 22 degrees of Capricorn. We are witnessing the slow breakdown, restructure and reform of many of our outworn systems, establishments and traditions (including governments and large corporations). The seedy underbelly of corruption and wrongdoing by those in positions of power and authority will be exposed, transformed and rebuilt.

Mercury retrograde

Communication planet Mercury remains out of phase in dramatic Leo at the time of this eclipse, further encouraging us to re-view, re-flect and re-consider our schedules, any potential miscommunications with travel, and information in general as they can be subject to snafus during this time. The ‘winged messenger’ and trickster planet goes direct again on 31 July 2019 and will be out of the shadow period on August 15 when it passes the degree where it first turned retrograde on 7 July (4 degrees Leo).

Anyone whose birthday falls on the day of this eclipse or 5 days either side could have a significant ending this coming year.

What areas of life does this partial lunar eclipse fall in for you?

Across your 1st and 7th houses – this is the area of self and partnerships. These areas will be emotionally illuminated and there may be an ending or resolution. This may concern issues of balance and compromise between yourself and a significant other. Make sure you look after your own needs.

Across your 2nd and 8th houses – this is the area of money, joint monies and material resources. These areas will be emotionally illuminated and there may be an ending or resolution in the area of income, debt, joint property, loans or spending.

Across your 3rd and 9th houses – this is the area of higher learning, studying and communicating. These areas will be emotionally illuminated and there may be an ending or resolution here. There may also be an upgrade of communication devices or technology.

Across your 4th and 10th houses. – this is the area of home, family and security. These areas will be emotionally illuminated and it may be that something needs to change. There could be a move of home or workplace, or there could be a family issue to deal with.

Across your 5th and 11th houses – this is the area of children, play, romance, self-expression, pleasure, friends, networks and groups. These areas will be emotionally highlighted and maybe a risk will be taken.

Across your 6th and 12th houses – this is the area of daily routines, health, work and service. You may want to change your diet and exercise program. Any happenings at your workplace, especially with colleagues, will be emotionally illuminated. You may need to find a place of retreat to regroup.

The next lunation is a new moon in Leo on 1 August 2019.

We are in the second eclipse season of 2019 with the New Moon and powerful Total Solar Eclipse occurring this month. July’s New Moon falls at 10°37′ of the sign of Cancer, on either 2 or 3 July 2019, depending where in the world you live (see chart below). It occurs on 3 July at 5:16 am in Sydney. In other parts of the world, it falls on 2 July at 12:16 pm in Los Angeles, 3:16 pm in New York, and at 8:16 pm in London.

New Moons are a time when the Sun and the Moon come together (called a ‘conjunction’) in the sky, and a time to set a new intention for the new emotional cycle ahead. A Solar Eclipse is an intensified New Moon. The Moon (unconscious) blocks the face of the Sun (consciousness) for a brief period, allowing that which is buried, repressed or denied in the psyche to rise up for resolution. If something does come up, it is likely to be dramatic; eclipses are known as ‘wildcards.’ Eclipse seasons last for around 6 months, with the next Solar Eclipse falling on 26 December 2019.

Cardinal quality:

Cancer has a Cardinal quality (or mode). This modality signifies the changes of the seasons, with the Sun’s entry into Cancer heralding Winter in the Southern Hemisphere. The Sun stays in Cancer from approximately 22 June to 22 July each year. Cardinal energy is initiatory, representing action-oriented fresh starts and “getting new things going.” Cancer is also one of the signs which is associated with the Water element concerning feelings and emotions, instinct and sensitivity. Some keywords for Cancer include: caring, nurturing, protective, receptive and tenacious.

This Eclipse may usher in a new start in the family and fostering emotional ties within the home, finding where you belong and where you feel safe and secure – the “shell” we can return to after a long day out. The downside of the sign of Cancer is being moody, touchy, clingy and smothering, and feeling the sentimental need to hang on to, not only family momentos, but the past. Crabs like to, “cling on.”

Bodily rulerships:

In the body, Cancer rules the breasts (motherhood) and stomach (nourishment). The Moon rules food, and the stomach and the breasts are connected with being fed and with feeding, the taking in and the giving out of nourishment. The Moon also rules the fluids in the body and the lymphatic system, as well as the body’s containers, such as the stomach and breasts (again), as well as the womb and the bladder.

The Moon as ruler of the Eclipse:

This eclipse is ruled by the Moon in Cancer, the ruler of the sign, thereby making it more potent. The Moon isn’t a planet per se, but a “light” or Luminary like the Sun (even though it has no light of its own but reflects the Sun’s light), and is the Earth’s satellite. The Moon is also associated with our heritage and ancestry, mother, basic needs, caretaking, food, feeding and the rhythms and tides.

People born on 2/3 July or 5 days either side in any year could have a significant new beginning this year.

Where does this eclipse fall in your birth chart:

Where this total Solar Eclipse falls in your chart by house (area of life) will indicate the area where there may be a new beginning for you over the next 6 months:

1st house: A new self-image and being more sensitive and caring when reaching out into the world.

2nd house: Spending money on family, and things that are sentimental.

3rd house: New communication patterns with a sibling. Taking a genealogy course, more short trips due to visit family.

4th house: New home environment, renovations, a need for tradition and a secure place to belong.

5th house: Nurturing and caring for children, emotionally connecting with a new romantic partner.

6th house: New emotional connections with colleagues. Health issues – could be related to containers in our body – eg stomach, womb.

7th house: If single, possibility of a new relationship with a caring, protective new partner.

8th house: New expression in emotional intimacy. Issues may arise around the areas of a family death, inheritances, wills, legal issues with family property or other shared resources.

9th house: Long distance travel or a move overseas for family reasons.

10th house: New beginning with a parent or other authority figure, new career move with a family member.

11th house: New caring connections within a group or community. Friendships and your social circle may become more nurturing.

12th house: Caring connections with the inner self. Start a meditation routine, study tarot or the metaphysical realm. Start an investigation into ancestral issues.

The next Lunation is a Partial Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn on 16/17 July 2019.

The shortest day and longest night of the year in the Southern Hemisphere is Saturday, 22 June 2019 at 1:54am (AEST). This is the Winter Solstice. The Latin word for Solstice is ‘solstitium’, meaning ‘sun-stopping,’ where the Sun seems to stop and rest on the horizon when rising and setting. The path of the Sun is furthest North, travelling the shortest path in the sky.

This is the time of year when the Sun ingresses or moves into the Cardinal Water sign of Cancer, heralding the Winter season. The days will then start to become longer after this date, reaching equal daylight and darkness at the time of the Spring (or Vernal) Equinox on 23 September 2019. This is the next seasonal shift when the Sun makes its entrance into the Cardinal Air sign of Libra.

Cancer is an emotionally sensitive sign, ruled by the Moon. Crabs are prone to ‘go into their shell’ when feeling the need for self-protection. The Solstice is a time to turn inwards, to quietly pause and reflect on how we feel life is going and where we may need to reset our intentions for the new season ahead. Where do you need to face your darkness or shadow? In what areas of life do you let go of what isn’t serving you? Where do you need to step into celebrating your own light, have a rebirth, make new plans or a fresh start?

Rituals to celebrate the Solstice and the rhythms of the Earth include lighting a candle or fire, being still and connecting with yourself as part of the inner journey, sharing a meal with loved ones or visiting a meaningful place in nature.

The Full Moon this month occurs on Monday 17 June 2019, with the Moon at 25°53′ Sagittarius and the Sun in the opposite sign of Gemini at 25°53′, which is exact at 6:31 pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). It is exact in Los Angeles at 1.31 am (PDT), in New York at 4:31 am (EDT) and in London at 9:31 am (BST).

The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the peak of the Sun/Moon cycle, and is a good time to see fruition from the seeds planted at the time of the Gemini New Moon, which occurred on 3 June 2019. Full Moons are also cycles of completion, culmination or closure.

Sagittarius and Gemini sign meaning:

The sign of Sagittarius has a Mutable quality or mode. The Mutable modality signifies the end of the seasons, when the weather is more in flux, and represents flexibility, versatility and changeability. With the Moon in Sagittarius, imagine the instinctual need to be on the move in some way, either physically or mentally. Sagittarius is also one of the signs associated with the Fire Element concerning enthusiasm, inspiration, warmth, passion and intuition. Some keywords for Sagittarius include; adventurous, freedom-loving, philosophical, outgoing and restless.

Sagittarians can also be exuberant, open-minded, have an interest in higher learning, be visionary and also explorers seeking meaning, growth and improvement. They also focus on the future and broadening their horizons through journeys.

The opposite sign of Gemini also has a Mutable quality. Gemini however is associated with the Air element concerning the rational mind, sharing ideas, knowledge, communication, logic and speech. Some keywords for Gemini include; intellectual, networking, being quick-witted and adaptable. Gemini Suns may be avid talkers, have strong mental abilities and enjoy social interactions with others. They are often curious, enjoy collecting many pieces of information and generally know lots of things about lots of things!

Sagittarius and its polarity Gemini share an affinity with education, knowledge, teaching, learning and understanding. However whereas Gemini is concerned with short distance travel, more primary learning and facts, Sagittarius represents longer journeys, both literally and metaphorically, and with developing wisdom though meaning.

Ruler of the lunation, larger than life Jupiter:

Sagittarius is ruled by the planet Jupiter, which is in its home sign of Sagittarius until 2/3 December 2019. Jupiter represents faith, trust, opportunity, abundance, luck, confidence, courage, wisdom, our quest for meaning and generosity. The need for expansion can however lead to excess, exaggeration, over-indulgence and risk-taking, and the possibility of falling prey to illusions and squandering resources, so be restrained and mindful not to go overboard at this time.

Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury. Mercury is associated with communication, speech, language, writing, connecting with others, transport, siblings, being light-hearted and intelligent. Communications take on a more sensitive and emotional hue as the winged messenger is in the sign of Cancer at the time of this Full Moon.

Mercury retrograde coming up in July 2019:

Mercury also turns Retrograde next month on 7 July until 1 August 2019. This will be a good time to review communications and correspondences, reconnect with siblings, back up the computer and get the car serviced. If signing any contracts during this period, please read the fine print carefully.

The next lunation is a New Moon in Cancer on 2/3 July 2019 – an intense total Solar Eclipse.

We have some potentially difficult energy to contend with on 14 June 2019 with the aspect of Mars in Cancer opposing Saturn in Capricorn, exact at 18 degrees of the signs. We want to ‘go’ but feel held back or the need to ‘stop.’

Mars is the fiery planet associated with action, initiation, assertion, competition, will, courage and drive. He is the ‘warrior’ who helps us go after what we want. Mars is currently in the sign of Cancer, his ‘fall’ position, where he isn’t so comfortable. The urge to independently forge ahead in a speedy fashion is tempered by the emotional waters of this sensitive sign, whose aim is to nurture, care for and protect others, creating bonds with family and those we consider to be family. We may find ourselves feeling ‘steamed up’ or frustrated, so managing emotions is in order while attempting to move forward.

Complicating the issue is the opposition from planet Saturn in his home sign of Capricorn where he is in ‘dignity’ or ‘domicile.’ Saturn expresses his energy easily in this sign (whereas Mars does not in Cancer). Mars rules a sign of fierce independence, where Cancer is concerned with emotional bonding and attachment. Saturn represents authority, structure, realism, organisation, ambition, commitment and tradition. He is concerned with rules, limits, restrictions, boundaries, limits and learning lessons. He is slow, steady and cautious, even fearful. Ruling a sign of hierarchy, Capricorn, we need to be patient and controlled in achieving material success and worldly status.

With Mars in Cancer opposing Saturn in Capricorn, we need to mobilise, realising there may be obstacles or walls standing in our way, blocking our path. We could feel angry and disappointed that things aren’t going as fast as we’d like; just remember to stay patient and disciplined for the long haul.

People who have personal planets or angles around the 16-24 degree mark of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) will feel this energy more strongly.

June’s New Moon falls at 12°33′ of the sign of Gemini, on 3 June 2019 at 8:01 pm in Sydney, Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). In other parts of the world, it also falls on 3 June at 3:01 am in Los Angeles, 6:01 am in New York, and at 11:01 am in London.

New Moons are a time when the Sun and the Moon come together (called making a conjunction) in the sky, and a time to set an intention for the new emotional cycle ahead.

The New Moon is in light and breezy Gemini (those born between 21 May and 21 June have a Gemini Sun). Gemini is the first Air sign of the zodiac, representing our mental function, objectivity, rationality, logic and detachment. It also signifies being separate, but relating intellectually; communication, speech, thinking, learning, ideas, writing, as well as duality and siblingship. Gemini is also the first sign of the Mutable modality or quality associated with the end of a season where the weather is changeable; so being flexible and versatile (quick-witted, restless, and even mentally scattered) is associated with Gemini.

At this New Moon time, ask yourself where you may need to network, or make links and bridge gaps in relation to social connections, or be curious when developing new areas of interest regarding learning and information; Gemini is akin to the social butterfly which enjoys collecting data, even if it’s gossip!

Gemini’s planetary ruler, Mercury is also in Gemini at the time of this New Moon, further emphasising the possibilities of starting a new venture in the realm of communication.

Where does this New Moon fall in your chart:

1st house: A new self-image and being more fun-loving when reaching out into the world. Increase in independent thought and ideas.

2nd house: Managing physical resources by writing a budget, spending money on books, seminars, courses. Learning about our innate skills and talents, and what is of value to us.

3rd house: Expressing our ideas, the way we think, being ‘light’ in our communication patterns. Taking a short course, changes in neighbourhood and more short trips due to learning commitments, possible reconnection in a sibling relationship.

4th house: Home – new ideas and thoughts regarding the home environment, renovations, family interactions, the need for more space, windows, books, a library.

5th house: Learning a new hobby or area of creative self-expression, or you could be teaching children, or taking courses in art, drama, writing.

6th house: More communications, meetings etc, in day-to-day work and routines, chatty colleagues in your team. Health – could be related to the nervous system, arms, shoulders, hands or lungs.

7th house: More communication in one-to-one relationships. If single, the possibility of a new relationship with a quick-witted, or intellectual person.

8th house: Connecting in relation to emotional intimacy. New issues may also arise around the areas of death, inheritances, wills, taxes, and legal issues with joint property or other shared resources.

9th house: Making plans to travel or move overseas for higher learning purposes (university, religion, philosophies).

10th house: Networking for a new career and social position, new career move, improved public standing, planning your vocation. Review and send out your resume.

11th house: New networks, new connections as part of a group or community. More communication in your friendships and within your social circle.

12th house: Commune and connect with your inner self. Start a meditation routine, study tarot or the metaphysical realm. Resolve ancestral issues.

The next lunation is a Full Moon in Sagittarius on 17 June 2019.

The Full Moon this month occurs on Sunday 19 May 2019, with the Moon at 27°38′ Scorpio and the Sun in the opposite sign of Taurus at 27°38′, which is exact at 7:11 am Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST/Sydney time).

On Saturday 18 May 2019 it is exact in Los Angeles at 2.11 pm (PDT), in New York at 5:11 pm (EDT) and in London at 10:11 pm (BST).

The Moon in the Fixed Water sign of Scorpio signifies deep, private, emotional sensitivity and insight, where intense and powerful passions can emerge from the unconscious during this time. Scorpio opposes the Fixed Earth sign of Taurus, sharing themes of possession, attachment and desire, only Scorpio demonstrates these issues emotionally (Water) rather than materially (Earthy Taurus). The Moon in Scorpio therefore wants to reveal or bring to light what has been buried in the dark.

Venus conjunct Uranus

At the time of this Full Moon, the planetary ruler of Taurus, Venus, representing values, money and worth, is at 3 degrees of Taurus, in one of her home signs, and exactly conjunct the planet of surprise, Uranus. Breakdowns, breakthroughs, breaking out of chains, liberation, disruptions, and a change in values, relationships and finances are all on the agenda as the Full Moon dredges up feelings which are denied, buried or repressed for release.

Australian Federal Election

Since we have the Australian Federal Election this Saturday, both Taurean leaders, Liberal Scott Morrison (13/05/1968) and Labor’s Bill Shorten (12/05/1967) will be locking horns over very different value systems, especially on economic issues(Taurus). We don’t have an accurate birth time for either leader which makes it difficult to obtain an accurate analysis or predict a more certain outcome. However change is definitely in the wind. Maybe a woman (Venus) will be the wildcard in the mix, or an unexpected upset(s) will win the day. The passing on last night of former Labor Prime Minister, Bob Hawke, may also be the catalyst to sway some voter’s intentions.

The next lunation is a New Moon on 3 June 2019 in the sign of Gemini.

In Los Angeles it is exact at 4.12 am (PDT), in New York at 7:12 am (EDT) and in London at 12:12 pm (BST).

This Full Moon can highlight issues around relationships. Aries is all about ‘me,’ whereas Libra is all about ‘we’ or ‘the other.’ Where do the scales need to be balanced?

Questions to ask yourself are:

  • Am I getting the balance right in my relationships, or am I over-compromising and ‘keeping the peace’?
  • Am I too independent or assertive in my one-to-one partnerships and need to become more interdependent?

Even so, the Aries Sun conjuncts Uranus in early Taurus, thereby encouraging us to become more independent, individualistic, free and liberated, especially if we’re too constrained and need to break out of any chains another has bound around us. This may not be without upset, shock or disruption.

Harmonious relationships involve equal sharing, cooperation, diplomacy and give and take.

Full Moons often bring up a lot of emotion, particularly when we’re re-evaluating our relationships, whether they be personal or business. Since Full Moons are also a point of culmination and release, we could have an ending or turning point in this area. Further, the 29th degree of a sign is known as a ‘critical’ (or ‘anaretic’) degree, carrying the lessons of these signs, and representing instability, tension, crisis and the last step to take in a relationship, before the luminaries enter new signs for a whole new ballgame.

This Full Moon affects those who have personal planets or angles near 29 degrees of the Cardinal signs of Aries, Libra, Cancer and Capricorn.
