Be Natural at Heart and New in mind
― Amit Kalantri
On Thursday we will experience the last Eclipse of our first Eclipse Season of 2018 and it is directly opposite the position of the Total Solar Eclipse of Aug 21st 2017.
The good news is that this Eclipse may help us to get a better understanding of some of the issues that came to light just before, during and immediately after, the Aug 21st Eclipse. Whereas the last Eclipse was in fiery, individualistic Leo, this one is exactly opposite in airy detached Aquarius, thus enabling us to get a glimpse of the bigger picture that emerged from the total darkness in August. Aquarius has the great capacity to observe patterns and not get too caught up in details, whereas Leo is much more focused on a goal.
The duality of heart (Leo) and mind (Aquarius), as well as individuality (Leo) and the collective (Aquarius), is often applied to these opposing signs. Playing with this possibility a little, it may be helpful to look back to Aug 2017 and notice if there were some changes to your emotional heart – did it open more? Did some old emotional pain come to the surface and clear out? Was this challenging to your mind? What part did this play in your personal journey of individuation from your family and tribe?
The next step is to observe if you notice any patterns coming to light in the Eclipse on Thursday, particularly related to your sense of self, as well as your role in your community and the greater collective. How does this tie in with your experiences in August? Are you feeling a greater sense of integration between your heart and your mind?
With the Sun conjunct Mercury and exactly sextile Uranus, the potential is high for sudden flashes of understanding and inspiration to do with the Aug eclipse, particularly if your Sun, Moon and/or angles are between 23’ and 29’ Aries, Libra, Capricorn and/or Cancer. With Mars trining/sexting the Nodes in Leo/Aquarius awakening the above eclipse themes is doubly emphasized.
The Sabian symbol for this Eclipse is:
‘A Tree Felled And Sawed To Ensure A Supply Of Wood For The Winter’. My interpretation is that the internal work we do during this Eclipse will be very helpful and nurturing during times ahead.
According to Dr. Bernadette Brady this Eclipse belongs to Saros Series 1 South which she describes as:
‘Concerned with ideas and their enthusiastic expression. If this eclipse affects your chart, you will be flooded with ideas or options. There may seem to be an element of haste, but if you can go with the new ideas, they will have positive outcomes.’ Predictive Astrology pgs. 308 – 309
The Partial Eclipse will be visible in southern South America, including many locations in Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay, and in Antarctica. The eclipse will also be visible from some areas of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Eclipses can coincide with natural and mundane events in the areas it is visible so it is not usually advisable to look at them. MG
You integrate something by first of all accepting it. To resist any aspect of your past is to keep yourself fragmented… To become whole within yourself, you must treat each and every experience that you have and ever will have as simply a stepping stone because there’s always a bigger picture.
― Craig Krishna
So here we are at the initial Eclipse of the first of two yearly Eclipse seasons. There are several noteworthy things about this one:
It’s a total lunar eclipse (visible at least in part in North/East Europe, Asia, Australia, North/East Africa, North America, North/West South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Arctic, Antarctica). It will not be visible in Ireland.
It’s a Blue Moon – 2nd Eclipse in the same month which can be a little tiring.
It’s a Supermoon – because the Moon’s perigee coincides with the Full Moon, it will appear closer than usual to the Earth and hence look and feel particularly big. The closer any planetary/stellar energies are to us, the more strongly we feel their energies – particularly for anyone with strong Cancer Moon, Sun or/and Ascendant. Leo Sun, Moon and Ascendant are also likely to feel this Eclipse particularly strongly.
The last blue Moon lunar eclipse was on March 31, 1866! The next one will be on Dec. 31, 2028.
Eclipses repeat themselves approx. every 18 years. So the previous Lunar Eclipse (Annular) at this same degree was on Jan 31st 1999 at 11’ Leo 20. It’s well worth giving some thought to what was going on in your life at that time. Although circumstances and other planetary alignments will be different this time round of course, the current eclipse may offer the opportunity to clear and/or integrate a further layer of whatever came to the surface emotionally for you in Jan 1999.
Fundamentally Lunar Eclipses feel like a bigger and more powerful Full Moon and last for a few months, rather than a couple of weeks. Whereas with a Full Moon we are aware of at least some of the unresolved feelings that are surfacing from our unconscious, with an Eclipse, whatever is surfacing is eclipsed, so we may feel a sense of discomfort and unease without initially being able to identify what it is.
As with any Full Moon, the key is to find a way for each of us internally to stand in the pivot point between the Full Moon/North Node and the opposing Sun/South Node and in this case – Venus. The polarity is between Leo and Aquarius – our individual feelings and needs, versus the collective requirements and values. Both can work well together if the Leo heart combines with the Aquarian idealism. The challenge arises if ego is mistaken for heart and if idealism is replaced with dogmatism. Help can come from the signs squaring the Eclipse which are Taurus and Scorpio. Taurus invites us to ground ourselves in our body and in the earth and Scorpio nudges us to be ruthlessly truthful with ourselves and others.
To better grasp what this Eclipse means for you, have a look at which natal houses of your chart the opposition lands in. This will describe the areas of your life where the emotional integration is being activated. For e.g. the Moon/Nth Node in Leo in the 1s house of your chart will oppose the Sun/Venus/Sth Node in your 7th house. The integration will be between some aspects of how you approach and view life and how you are in relationship with others.
The Sabian symbols (many thanks Lynda Hill), for the Leo Moon is: ‘An evening lawn party of adults.’
My interpretation is that although the Leo Moon is usually playful and spontaneous, this Eclipse requires us to contain ourselves and remain in adult mode. Observing what is going on around us in a polite way may be helpful, particularly with Mercury at the critical 29’ which can sometimes lead to challenges in communication. The Sabian symbol for the Sun: ‘People on a vast staircase, graduated upwards,’ may be a reminder that we are all on the same path, even though we are individuals.

This heart meditation by Deepak Chopra may be helpful before, during and after the Eclipse.
For just this moment, let go of your thoughts and the outside world.
Focus your attention on your spiritual heart center, in the middle of your chest, and be aware of your heart as a space. The heart center is a point of awareness where feelings enter. In its essence, the heart is pure emptiness, pervaded by peace and a subtle light. This light may appear as white, gold, pale pink, or blue. But don’t strain to find a light of any kind. All you need to feel is whatever is there.
Resting your attention easily on your heart center, breathe gently and sense your breath flowing into your heart. You may want to visualize a soft, pastel light or coolness pervading the chest.
Let your breath go in and out, and as it does, ask your heart what it needs to say. Don’t phrase this as an order; just have the faint intention that you want your heart to express itself.
For the next 5 or 10 minutes, sit and listen. Your heart will begin to release emotions, memories, wishes, fears, and dreams long stored inside. As it does, you will find yourself paying attention.
You may have a flash of strong emotion—positive or negative—or a forgotten memory. Your breathing may change. You may gasp, sigh, or feel tears come into your eyes. Let the experience be what it is. If you daydream or drift off into sleep, don’t worry. Just bring your attention back to your heart center.
The Heart’s Message Is Perfect
Whether it speaks to you in sadness or fear, delight or pleasure, its message is exactly what you need. If voices of anger, worry, or doubt start to arise, allow them to speak and then let them go, easily and comfortably. You are learning to be with your heart in order to heed its spiritual meaning—this is meditation. You are letting repressed material come up to be released—this is purification. You are listening to your heart without judgment—this is attention.
As you practice this meditation, spending a few minutes each day to connect with your heart center, you will begin to get glimpses of your heart as it really is: silence, peace, a warm glow, or subtle light. Even if these glimpses are fleeting, you will find that your life outside of meditation is starting to change. At unexpected moments, you will feel a wave of joy and well-being sweep over you. You will begin to walk with more buoyancy in your step.
These are signs that the constriction most people hold around the heart center is releasing its grip and letting go of the fear and tightness that keep spirit from entering. In truth, spirit doesn’t enter since it is always there. But making contact with it is like being penetrated with light and insight. This is the flow of love. – Deepak Chopra
This earthy New Moon is the first New Moon of the year, thereby setting the tone for the year ahead. It’s also the last New Moon before we launch into the first Eclipse season of the year on January 31st with a Lunar Eclipse in Leo. (More on this closer to the date).
With 4 planets + the Sun and Moon in Capricorn, this is a particularly powerful New Moon in terms of manifestation, so it’s important to think carefully about the seeds we want to plant at this time. It’s also wise to check what the soil we are planting the seeds in is like. Particularly as that is going to have a big impact on how and what manifests in our life in the weeks ahead, in the area of life that the New Moon lands in our chart. Not an easy fete right now, as there isn’t any Air in the sky, so our detachment is somewhat limited. However, the Mars/Jupiter conjunction in Scorpio can help us to skilfully intuit our way into the truth of what we truly need and how ready we are to manifest it.
With Pluto square Uranus in the mix, something new is required on our part. Some breaking of the mould in an area of our life where we may have been stagnant. This could be in our thoughts, words, actions, sense of self value, emotions and/or sense of self. Capricorn requires mastery, so this is the perfect time to consider: where in my life have I achieved mastery and what are the gaps that I am currently working on right now? Is it in my communication skills? Work? Relationships? What blocks have held me back? What fears?
Courage and tenacity are wonderful assets to engage with at this time. The courage to face our blocks and start taking them down and the tenacity to do the internal work required on an ongoing basis to make the desired changes in our life. One of the wonderful gifts of Capricorn is that it always gives us tangible results when we put the work in! MG
‘Let your heart be as big as it can possibly be.’ ― Swami Chetanananda
Solar Eclipses occur when the Earth, Moon and Sun are lined up in the heavens, so that from our perspective on Earth, the Moon blocks out the light of the Sun. Countries that are in the direct line of the Eclipse are more likely to resonate with the Eclipse themes. Similarly – if your Sun, Moon or Angles are within 3’or 4’ of the Eclipse degree, which in this case is 28’ Leo 52.
This is the last Eclipse of 2017 and can only be seen as a Total Eclipse across the middle of the USA. Although the effect of Eclipses is stronger in the geographic area where it is exact, all of us will feel these powerful collective energies to some degree!
Solar Eclipses symbolically represent the brief moment of darkness that comes just before an important aspect of ourselves comes to light. In that instant, our unconscious lunar emotions surface, obscuring our conscious solar light, thereby leaving us in darkness. All we can do is trust that something as yet unknown is emerging into light and consciousness, ready to be birthed in the weeks and months ahead. The placement of the Eclipse in our Birth Chart by Sign, House and Aspect offers us some helpful information as to what this is[i]. Similarly in the Composite Chart for Relationships – for more information on this feel free to peruse www.relationshipsandastrology.com
Over the centuries the dimming of the light of the Sun has been viewed with some trepidation in many parts of the world. On a primal level, our survival feels understandably threatened when the light of the Sun is obscured. Hence, although Solar Eclipses always occur at the time of a New Moon – which is all about birth, the Eclipse demands that we experience total darkness, before the birth can take place.
Key Planetary Aspects
The key aspect to this Eclipse is the exact trine to Uranus in Aries. There is also an almost exact quincunx to Chiron in Pisces (1’orb) and the North Node in Leo is within 5’ of the Eclipse. Plus of course, Mercury has recently gone Retrograde in Virgo!
Key Themes for this Eclipse:
An invitation to open our hearts wide.
A desire to take spontaneous genuine action in a new direction – check where the Eclipse lands in your chart to see which area of life this is more likely to happen for you!
Feistiness, impatience and frustration!
Absolute honesty and directness,
Healing old wounds to do with our individuality (this may involve releasing some old pain!)
Reconnecting to heartfelt joy and fun,
Confusion with detail – careful with those texts!
Feeling ungrounded and struggling dealing with mundane daily tasks! (The only earth in the sky is Pluto in Capricorn) Our bodies may play up a bit in an effort to draw our attention so that we can remain centered in the physical realm,
Compassion may feel easier than empathy right now!
Our nervous system may feel in overdrive so our sleep patterns may be disturbed.
Some things to keep in mind!
Eclipses repeat themselves approx. every 19 years and there were Solar Eclipses at this same degree in 1945, 1963 and 1999. It may be helpful to revisit these times in your life, (or to explore what was going on in your family at these times, if you were not born yet), to see if any significant themes come to light, which may resurface to be worked through in a new way with this Eclipse.
According to Dr. Bernadette Brady this Eclipse belongs to Saros Series 1 North. This is her description of the core theme:
“Unexpected events involving friends or groups place a great deal of pressure on personal relationships. These relationship issues may loom large as the eclipse affects the chart. The individual would be wise not to make any hasty decisions since information is distorted and possibly false. The eclipse also has an essence of tiredness attached to it” – Dr. Bernadette Brady ‘The Eagle and the Lark’
The Sabian symbol for this Eclipse is: ‘A Mermaid emerges from the ocean waves ready for rebirth in human form’. – Lynda Hill
This could be described as an emergence of something within ourselves from the deep oceanic emotional realms, which we are ready to manifest on the planet. It’s well worth keeping a note of your dreams at this time!
Some tools that may help with the Eclipse energies:
Spending time on solid ground in nature with trees, plants and flowers.
Having fun with friends and loved ones.
Listening to your heart and taking a risk if it’s heart centered
Being courageous for yourself and others.
Trying to focus on excitement rather than fear!
Envisioning the most expansive future for yourself and your loved ones
Trusting that the light will come out again even brighter, in whatever part of your chart the Eclipse is landing in.
Self comforting! Anxiety levels may feel higher than usual, particularly if you have a Moon/Uranus aspect in your chart. With Moon/Pluto there may be more fear and with Moon/Neptune, sadness and/or addictions may come to the forefront. Fear may also be strong if you have a natal Saturn/Pluto aspect.
Self soothing is very helpful right now in the manner of your Moon Element and sign. For Fire Moons focusing on the excitement of the Eclipse can be helpful, as well as doing exercise. Moon in Earth may find it comforting to be somewhere beautiful in nature, Moon in Air is likely to enjoy reading blogs on the Eclipse and spending some time with friends, whilst Moon in Water is more likely to be comforted by time near a body of water.
If your Sun, Moon and/or angles are at the end of Leo, Aquarius, Taurus, Aries, Pisces and/or Scorpio or at the start of Virgo, Pisces, Gemini and/or Sagittarius, you are more likely to resonate with the above themes.

‘But feelings can’t be ignored, no matter how unjust or ungrateful they seem.’ ― Anne Frank
The Planetary Configurations:
Mars in Leo is conjunct the Sun and opposite the Moon (4’orb).There is also a trine/sextile from Jupiter to the Moon/Sun (2’ orb). This Eclipse is also part of ann intense Yod in the sky, with the Sun as the apex planet and the Moon as the release point! The quincunx is from the Sun to Pluto (2’ orb) on one side and to Neptune (2’ orb) on the other!
Why do Eclipses matter?
There are two Eclipse seasons a year – one in Oct/Nov and one in July/Aug. The Eclipse season lasts from a few weeks before the first Eclipse, until a week or so after the last Eclipse. However, the effects of the Eclipses last for approx. 6 months after each Eclipse.
Lunar Eclipses are a more intense Full Moon – with a twist! During a Full Moon the light of the Sun fully illuminates the Moon. How this translates in our daily life, is that emotions that are usually under the surface, become more visible as they enter our consciousness. Hence we talk about ‘lunacy’ during a Full Moon, which describes a sense of feeling overtaken and overwhelmed by our emotions.
However, the twist with the Eclipse is that although emotions come to the surface, they are temporarily covered over or eclipsed. So we are aware that they are there, but unlike a non-eclipsed Full Moon, we are not conscious of what they are about. As this is happening to all of us at the same time, it can feel like a power surge of emotions, without the consciousness to make sense of what they are and hence how to process them.
Depending on where this Eclipse falls in your natal chart and which planets – if any – are activated, this will feel more or less personally intense for you. However, as it is a global occurrence, anyone who is sensitive and/or has a very watery chart is likely to reverberate strongly with these energies, even if they are not personal to your own chart. Hence, it’s very important to stay as centered as possible in your own emotions and body and to keep clearing out other people’s energies and emotions!
Some Key Themes to look out for with this Lunar Eclipse:
1. A strong drive to take urgent action in whatever area of life the Sun/Mars/North Node in Leo falls in your natal chart. Heart centered action can work well, but if it’s based on ego, it is likely to be reflected back in an enhanced way over the next few months.
2. This is an ideal time to let go of old emotional baggage – resentments, fears, regrets, shame, guilt, annoyances, frustrations…
3. Parental issues may come to the surface to be resolved and released so that we can move forward lighter and easier.
4. There may be challenges between the wellbeing of the group/tribe/collective versus ‘Me, Myself and I’! This could manifest via challenges between family and community needs, versus personal needs and desires.
5. With Mercury in shadow and going Retrograde on Aug 13th it’s well worth paying additional attention to all forms of communication, particularly when it entails formal documents!
This Eclipse is likely to feel particularly powerful if your Sun, Moon and/or angles are between 11’ and 16’ Aquarius, Leo, Taurus and Scorpio. Also if you are part of the generation with the Nodal axis in Leo/Aquarius as the theme of self/individuality/ego, versus others/idealism/helping the collective, is a key theme in your life journey.
Some suggested tools for this Lunar Eclipse:
1. Time in nature can really help to stay grounded and get some sleep and rest at this time. Because this Eclipse is in Air and Fire, it has a high speed, detached quality about it, which is very removed from the natural and physical realms of Earth and our body. This can feel a bit harsh and edgy on our nervous system
2. Meditation and breathing exercises can help to stay centered and as calm as possible amidst any potential chaos around us.
3. It’s well worth taking nothing personally!! Keep in mind that everyone’s emotions are surfacing at the same time. Kindness, compassion, patience and tolerance will go a long way towards preventing accidents and stressful encounters.
4. Discernment as to where and if action is needed, and how to take it in a grounded and loving manner is useful right now.
5. Forgiveness for self and others will bear great fruits in the months to come. The Hawaiian practice of Ho’oponopono is one of several healing forgiveness practices http://upliftconnect.com/hawaiian-practice-of-forgiveness/

Key Planetary Energies today:
This New Moon in fiery Leo is conjunct Mars, (1’ orb) square Uranus in Aries, (2’ orb) and trine Chiron in Pisces (2’ orb). Elsewhere in the sky, Jupiter in Libra trines Venus in Gemini (5’ orb) and squares Pluto in Capricorn (2’ orb). Meanwhile Saturn in Sagittarius trines Mercury and the North Node in Leo (4’ and 2’ orb)
So how is all of this likely to affect you?
With 6 planets in Fire signs and 4 of them in Leo + the North Node, not to mention the Sun conjunct Mars, there is definitely a lot of dynamic action oriented energy in the sky!!
New Moons inspire us to make a new start in the area of life where the New Moon lands in our birth chart. The seeds we plant with the New Moon today are likely to gain momentum on the 26th and 27th when the Sun makes an exact conjunction to Mars once again – this time in Leo! These two have been travelling close together for the past week and won’t really separate until early August. When they were in Cancer last week their focus was more on family dynamics. Now that they are in individualistic Leo, the focus has shifted onto us as individuals. We have some choice as to how we manifest this dynamic duo. At its most limited the Sun/Mars conjunction can express itself in an ego-centered, prideful entitled and arrogant manner. However, when the Leo energy comes from the heart then its expansive expression exudes love, generosity and playfulness.
The planetary aspects to this full moon challenge us to be brutally honest with ourselves and look at where our intentions are coming from, as the core intention at the root of our actions is what impacts everyone around us. Once we are clear on whether our intentions are ego or heart based, we can plan the actions we wish to take in the month ahead in whatever area of life the New Moon lands in our chart.
Spontaneous playfulness is very helpful with this New Moon. For those of us who are in the midst of summer right now, this is a wonderful day to do something action oriented that is new, courageous and adventurous. Pushing ourselves beyond our comfort zone is likely to produce unexpected satisfaction.
Some questions to consider during this New Moon:
1. What is calling me right now to take action in my life? What needs to change?
2. In the balance between ego and heart – which plays a bigger part in my life? (No judgement!) Am I happy with this? If not – what can I do right now to change it?
3. Where and why am I disconnected from pleasure?
“…for there are two distinct sorts of ideas, those that proceed from the head and those that emanate from the heart.” ― Alexandre Dumas
This Full Moon in Capricorn is conjunct Pluto (1’orb) and opposite Mars (5’ orb). It also squares Jupiter in Libra (3’ orb) and sextiles Neptune in Pisces (3’ orb). Elsewhere, Saturn in Sagittarius trines/sextiles the Nodes in Leo/Aquarius (2’ orb), as well as trining Uranus in Aries (6’ orb). Jupiter in Libra is still quincunx Neptune in Pisces and Mercury in Leo sextiles Venus in Gemini (1’ orb).
Key Themes to Look out for today:
Pretty much everything is activated in the sky with this Full Moon, so most of us are likely to resonate with at least some of the energies!
The key theme for this Full Moon is integration and transformation in an attempt to find balance, both within ourselves and in the world around us.
The integration this Full Moon invites us to accomplish is between: creative flow and boundaries, connection and self-sufficiency, flexibility and rules, nurturing and authority, emotions and restraint, softness and tenacity. Which side do we tend to lean towards? How might you choose to re-balance this with the Full Moon?
Notice where the Full Moon lands in your birth chart to see which areas of your life can most benefit from integration today.
With the Sun in the natural sign of the Moon, compassion and kindness are emphasized, as well as the importance of family and familiarity. We are more likely to be drawn to comfort and security today, rather than adventure. The Moon on the other hand is in the earthy sign of Capricorn, which by nature is somewhat guarded in displaying emotions. With Pluto beside it, this natural reticence is highlighted even more and we may find ourselves seeking privacy, as we ruminate over old emotions that are past their sell by date. This is an ideal time to shed them with kindness and compassion for ourselves and others. Some old fears and obsessions may also come to the surface to be released.
Digging into our resource box for tools that offer emotional comfort and soothing can help. At this time these may include: time with good friends, cooking a nice meal, doing something creative, journaling, watching a familiar movie, reading an inspirational book, clearing out closets…
If your Sun, Moon or angles are between 15’ and 24’ Capricorn, Cancer, Libra and/or Aries you will probably feel these energies more strongly.
‘Embrace love and compassion with all your spirit. Understand that they never hurt or offend, they just heal and empower.’― Steve Maraboli
This week offers us two excellent astrological opportunities to plant fresh seeds for new beginnings. The first event is the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere/Winter Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. This important Astrological crossroads signifies a change in seasons – from spring to summer or from autumn to winter.
For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, this is our longest day of the year and here in Ireland it is unlikely to get dark until past 10.30pm. On this day we celebrate the warmth and brightness of the Sun and the vibrancy and stimulation of life around us. It’s a time to play and be light, as we release any heaviness we carried over from the spring and winter months. This is our time to blossom as we enjoy more time outdoors in nature. In the Southern Hemisphere it is a time to draw in and embrace the self-learning that takes place when there are minimal external distractions. In both hemispheres, the Solstice marks a time to engage with something new.
Solstice Planetary Configurations
Solstice brings a superior conjunction between Mercury and the Sun in Cancer. Mercury is also sextile Uranus in Aries, opposite Saturn in Sagittarius and square Chiron in Pisces. Meanwhile Venus in Taurus (conjunct the Moon), is sextile Neptune in Pisces and trine Pluto in Capricorn. Not forgetting the ongoing quincunx between Jupiter in Libra and Neptune in Pisces, square Pluto in Capricorn! Additionally Saturn in Sagittarius trines the North Node in Leo/sextiles the South Node in Aquarius!
How is this likely to be relevant in our lives?
Issues to do with communication are likely to be at the forefront today, as we prepare to move from an intellectual perspective, to a more feeling based one. Although there may be some impatience and/or anxiety around, this is an ideal opportunity to heal some old family wounds. Self-compassion and the willingness to ‘listen’ in new ways, both to our own heart and to the heart of others is key! This Solstice invites us to reconcile the subtle difference between unconditional love and ‘fairness’. What do ‘fairness’ and ‘unconditional love’ mean to us? Can we still love someone or something that is not 100% fair? At what point does that stop being feasible for us? Where is this highlighted in our lives right now? (The position of Transiting Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto in your chart will show where this is most active for you right now!)
This Solstice invites us to be creative and passionate. It’s the perfect day to be surrounded by beauty and sensual pleasures – visit an art gallery, go for a walk somewhere beautiful, enjoy a massage, cook or go out for a fabulous meal, enjoy some sensuality with your intimate other, relax in a candlelit aromatic bath…
Mostly – today is a reminder to keep our heart open, in spite of the horrors taking place in the world around us. They are only likely to stop when all our hearts are open wide. This can and may translate into each of us doing one small action in this new Solstice cycle on a daily or weekly or monthly basis, that will contribute in some way to the community we live in.
Solstice is followed two days later by:
The New Moon in Cancer, which invites us to plant the seeds for the month ahead.
This New Moon is conjunct Mercury and square Chiron in Pisces. Meanwhile Mars which is also in Cancer, squares Jupiter in Libra. Many of the Solstice configurations from a couple of days ago continue, including Jupiter in Libra quincunx Neptune in Pisces, square Pluto in Capricorn. The Venus in Taurus trine Pluto in Capricorn becomes exact today!
How is this likely to be relevant in our lives?
Many of the Solstice themes continue to reverberate. However, the seeds that are being planted for this new moon are about self-nurturing, family and creativity. This is an ideal time to explore what family means to us and the role creativity plays or not, in our lives.
Last weekend I was at the beautiful ‘celebration’ of the life of an amazing woman who passed away recently. One of the speakers shared how one of the many gifts that stayed with her from her college lecturer was her emphasis on the importance of the imagination in our lives.
Too often we only associate the imagination with being an artist or writer or poet. Yet connecting with our imagination is fundamental in creating the life we want and unless we engage consciously with this amazing gift, we are at risk of creating a life we don’t want! A couple of days before and after the New Moon are a particularly powerful time to ‘imagine’ what we want in our life. Where do we want to create a home if we have not done so already? Do we enjoy being with the person/people we are currently sharing our home with? If not, who would we like to share our home with? Who and what do we want to be surrounded by? Who is our family and our tribe?
Passion is also highlighted today. Passion for ourselves, passion for life and passion for those we love. This is not a day for sitting on the fence! Life is too short! Over the past week the horrific fires in the UK and Portugal, as well as the conflicts around the world, were a sharp reminder that our time on this planet and the time of our loved ones, could easily end in the next hour, minute or second!
If you love someone – this is the time to tell them and mostly show them through your behaviour. Power games are not love, fear is not love, taking a chance is love and being honest and vulnerable is love.
‘Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won’t come in.’ ― Isaac Asimov
What’s going on Astrologically?
Neptune in Pisces is the Apex of a tsquare to The New Moon conjunct Saturn opposite the Sun in Gemini. Plus, the Sun in Gemini is exactly quincunx Pluto in Capricorn and Jupiter in Libra is going stationary direct today! Not to mention a second Tsquare with Apex Chiron in Pisces, squaring Saturn in Sagittarius and Mars in Cancer + a sextile between Venus in Taurus and Mars in Cancer!! All in one day!!
Why does a Full Moon Matter?
The Full Moon is our monthly opportunity to face and clear out any emotional debris that comes to the surface from our unconscious. The issues that surface are connected to the area of our natal chart that the Full Moon lands in! For e.g. if it lands in our 11th House, it is related to the tribal aspect of our life including family, friends, community etc.! However, as the Full Moon is also a collective global experience, we are all impacted to a greater or lesser degree by the core themes of each Full Moon!
Key Themes to Look out for today:
Deep-set belief systems and ways of thinking are likely to be challenged by this Full Moon – particularly beliefs that are rigid and lacking in unconditional love for our fellow humans. This is a good time to question how these beliefs have led to the construction of our core life foundations – our home, family situation, relationships, health, community, work….Moving forward with fairness in the weeks and months ahead is one of the key themes of this Full Moon. Right now healing is likely to come from putting the needs of others before our own, regardless of whether we agree or disagree with them intellectually! Although it sounds cliché and ‘new agey’ – reaching out to others with love is likely to plant some beautiful seeds in all our relationships in the months to come!
