Time to Shine!

Want to be a part of the race happenings at the Asheville Marathon & Half next year? Then come be an Ambassador for us! We are asking enthusiastic and well-connected runners from around the country and the globe to help spread the word and represent the 2020 edition of the Asheville Marathon & Asheville Half Marathon at Biltmore Estate… and offering awesome incentives to do it!

APPLICATIONS are due by July 16, 2019!

To be considered as a race ambassador you MUST HAVE either volunteered or participated in either the Asheville Half Marathon or Full Marathon at Biltmore Estate previously. Only prior participants in the event will be considered for our ambassador roles.

Ambassadors will serve as race representatives and as part of our consulting team; we will look to them for feedback, tips, and new ideas! Specific Ambassador roles will entail the following:

Distribution of Collateral via Local Channels (e.g. running stores, local races, etc.)

Spreading the word and answering questions about Asheville Marathon & Half events to others in local running clubs, as well as through social media, blogging, and otherwise.

Blogging, Facebook shares and tweeting regularly about upcoming news from the Asheville Marathon & Half.

Participation in the Race Planning Feedback Forums and Surveys (you are our research team to help us better serve the running community!)

Race Weekend support

For their efforts, ambassadors will be recompensed with a variety of rewards. These perks will include complimentary registration, Official Marathon & Half Ambassador Gear, discounts on other events & services, a personal profile hosted on the marathon website, perks from race sponsors, and additional incentives during race weekend, based on involvement… and we are still adding to the list! Additionally, we will open up certain opportunities to our Ambassadors first. These may include pre-race interviews, news stories, merchandise giveaways, Pacer Team invitations, sponsor product giveaways and inclusion in special race weekend happenings.

Throughout human history, one of the most prominent roles of great distance runners was that of messengers. The Asheville Marathon at Biltmore Estate wants to revive that heritage of communication by the fleet of feet with our Ambassador program. To sign up  for your chance to be a part of the Ambassador team, visit the official Ambassador Program Details.

Bag Check

Runners will receive a Fleet Feet, Clear Plastic ‘Finisher’ bag at the Race Expo in your goody bag. Runners MUST use the finisher bags provided to have their bag included in our Finisher Bag tent that is next to the finish line and food tent beside Antler Hill Village. Runners will need to write their bib number on their bag and then will drop it off at the finish area prior to the race at the ‘Finisher Bag Tent”. This is a nice perk we are glad to offer runners so that runners can have a change of clothes, warmer attire, their phones and money to purchase race merchandise and additional food items at the post race party area. The finisher bags are not dropped along the race course they stay at the finish area. This is especially  handy for runners that have used the shuttle service to come into the race.

Restrooms

Restrooms are by the Creamery in Antler Hill Village at our Shuttle Drop off Area. There are also restrooms in the Historic Horse Barn, where the post race massages will also be located! Port-a-jons located around the Start line area and at the Race Hub as well as along the course. Take a look at our course map to see where restrooms will be located:

Pacer Groups

We realize that completing a Full Marathon or Half Marathon is a huge life-event, let alone both in our Backyard to Vineyard Challenge and the NEW Backyard to Backyard Challenge. In anticipation, many allow themselves to get caught up in the moment, firing out at the gun with reckless abandon, only to quickly fizzle out: undermining their training, their strategy, and their big day as a whole.

With that in mind, we want to do all we can to help make those 26 miles and the .2 that follow as positive as possible, as well as the 13 miles and the .1 that follows for the half marathoners.

10 pace group divisions for the Asheville Marathon:

3:30, 3:40, 3:50, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45, 5:00, 5:15, and 5:30

5 pace group divisions for the Asheville Half Marathon:

1:45, 2:00, 2:15, 2:30, 2:45

Asheville Marathon by Race Director - 5M ago

Our goal is to collect 250 shoes for the Western Carolina Rescue Ministries Foot Care Clinic!
BRING SHOES, BRING SHOES, BRING SHOES!

Shoes can be dropped off at the Expo on Friday or Saturday OR at the Finisher Bag Tent on race day!

Please bring gently used or new tennis shoes! Tennis shoes seem to be the best, as the homeless population likes them, because they hold up for such a long period of time. The shoes that the WCRM receive during the Asheville Marathon & Half event will go towards their annual “Foot Care Clinic”.

Help us by donating new or lightly used tennis shoes that will go towards Western Carolina Rescue Ministries Annual “Foot Care Clinic”.

About the Foot Care Clinic: The Foot Care Clinic takes place in the Spring. Volunteers will: wash the homeless’ feet, give them a “pedicure” (cut their nails, etc.) , lotion their feet, and then they will be given a pair of brand new socks and brand new shoes. In addition, medical staff will be on site to help with any lesions or suspicious areas on their feet that might need medical attention.

Following this event, a nice meal will be served to the clients in a more formal, restaurant style service, where volunteers bring them their food, etc. rather than making them go through the cafeteria line. Generally the Clinic serve adults, but sometimes will have several young children. The whole goal behind this event is to let the homeless population know that they are loved and cared for and feel valued.

Want to learn more? Visit The Western Carolina Rescue Ministries website!
