Forsberg is a Swedish international who has shone in the Bundesliga in the last couple of seasons.
Honigstein went on to say that the bid was made by Arsenal before the Gunners turned their attention to other targets in the market.
Emil Forsberg is a fine player and would’ve been a solid signing for Arsenal last summer. However, the situation has changed since then and wide midfield is hardly the position most in need of strengthening.
The agent of Nabil Fekir has opened the door to a potential summer move with Arsenal reportedly keen on the midfielder (via The Metro).
When lists of potential Arsenal signings get drawn up, one man’s name is usually near the top.
Nabil Fekir has been linked with a move to the Emirates for a number of years and these reports have only amped up after the Frenchman’s incredible season in Ligue 1.
Fekir has scored 16 goals in 24 league matches this season and now, the player’s agent has responded to rumours that his client is looking to leave Lyon in the summer.
“If at the end of the season, and this is not the case today, there was a decision to be made, then we would sit down with President Aulas and we would find the right solution,” Jean-Pierre Bernes told Le Dauphine Libere.
“Respecting first and foremost Olympique Lyonnais. At home, we do not leave like a savage or after a showdown. Nabil is in a big French club if not the biggest.
“You know very well that at some point, we may be able to ask questions about a departure. The decision will be taken in all intelligence, as professionals, and especially in the interests of all parties.
“When you leave your training club, to whom we owe everything, we leave in good conditions. If we have to leave…Nabil has the personal goal of being part of a top 10 club in Europe.
“He has the potential. Without burning the steps. A career, it is built, little by little. We must not burn ourselves, be careful, because football, it goes quickly.”
Nabil Fekir is a fantastic player but the Gunners are hardly lacking in options in attacking midfield right now. A goalkeeper, a centre-back and a central midfielder should be higher up the list of transfer targets in the summer.
Reports suggest that both Chelsea and Manchester United are keen on signing Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey with the player’s contract set to expire in 2019 (via The Metro).
It seems that no Arsenal player is safe at the club right now.
Almost every player at the club has been linked with a move away in the recent months and years and it seems that Aaron Ramsey is no different.
This summer will mark ten years since Ramsey joined the Gunners from Cardiff City and has been in fine form this season.
However, Ramsey’s current contract at the club is set to expire next summer and is yet to agree on a new deal.
Now, reports suggest that Chelsea and Manchester United are keen on a summer move for the Welsh midfielder with a rumoured price of £25 million cited.
It would be incredibly stupid of the club to let Aaron Ramsey leave, especially to a rival. The Welshman has been one of the club’s best players this season and at 27 years old, is entering the prime of his career. Let’s hope the club just pays up and offers him a new big money deal.
Reports in Italy suggest that Serie A giants, AC Milan are still in discussions with Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere over a potential free transfer in the summer (via Sport Witness).
It’s the sort of story which Arsenal fans never thought they’d read about but there’s a real possibility that Jack Wilshere will leave the club in the summer.
The 25-year-old is still yet to sign a new deal at the club despite the club and player reportedly negotiating for several months.
After several years of injury problems, Wilshere has become an established figure in the Gunners first-team this year.
One of the clubs apparently keen on the player is AC Milan with reports in Italy suggesting that ‘contacts are continuing’ between Wilshere and the Serie A side.
It’s unclear how much truth is in these reports. It’s strange to think of Jack Wilshere playing anywhere other than the Emirates but there is a very real possibility that that could happen. Whether AC Milan is the best destination for him or not remains to be seen.
Arsenal are reportedly readying an opening offer of £25 million for a potential Petr Cech replacement (via The Sun).
It’s going to be a busy summer at Arsenal. Aside from any potential managerial change, there are a number of positions on the pitch which will need upgrading or a replacement.
Centre-back, central midfield and wide midfield should all be replaced in the transfer window but the Gunners are perhaps most in need of a goalkeeper.
Neither David Ospina nor the 35-year-old Petr Cech has covered themselves in glory in the last few years and the Gunners need to upgrade.
Just a few weeks ago, Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno was cited as a potential replacement and now, reports suggest that the Gunners are keen on the player.
It is claimed that Leno has the seal of approval from new head of scouting, Sven Mislintat and that the Gunners are preparing an opening bid of £25 million bid.
Bernd Leno is a fine player and would be a solid acquisition for the Gunners, especially at that price. The Gunners are in desperate need of a new goalkeeper and despite his relatively young age, Leno is one of the best stoppers in the Bundesliga today.
Arsenal reportedly sent a delegation to Portugal over the weekend to scout the 21-year-old winger, Andrija Zivkovic (via Sport Witness).
Without much football to be played in the coming weeks, many clubs take this opportunity to turn their attention to the transfer market and look at potential reinforcements.
It seems like the Gunners are no exception with reports suggesting that they have sent a delegation to Portugal to scout a potential signing.
The player in question is Andrija Zivkovic, a 21-year-old winger who plays for Benfica.
Zivkovic moved to Portugal from Partizan Belgrade back in 2016 and has impressed in the Primeira Liga in the last few years.
Portuguese publication, O Jogo claims that Arsenal sent a delegation to scout the young winger during Benfica’s 2-0 victory over Feirense on Saturday.
It’s unclear how much truth is in these reports and whether Arsenal are, in fact, keen on signing Andrija Zivkovic. After the losses of Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Lucas Perez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the last few months, the Gunners are in need of reinforcement out wide. Whether Zivkovic is the right man for that remains to be seen.
Arsene Wenger has responded Danny Welbeck’s involvement in the penalty decision during Arsenal’s 3-1 win over AC Milan on Thursday evening (via the Mirror).
It was a pleasing night for Arsenal as they booked their place in the next round of the Europa League but one far from controversy.
With the Gunners behind in the match, Danny Welbeck went down in the box and the referee pointed straight to the penalty spot.
Welbeck stepped up and converted the kick in what turned out to be a 3-1 victory but replays showed that Welbeck dived for the spot kick and the Englishman has attracted a fair share of criticism from the press.
After the match, Arsene Wenger was asked whether he thought it was a penalty and whether Welbeck fell to the floor too easily.
“Honestly, I don’t know,” Wenger said. “I’ll watch it again and give you an honest answer.
“I must say the positive of the situation, 1-0 down, you could see a response. Were we lucky on the penalty? I don’t know.
“I don’t want to accuse Danny Welbeck of diving before seeing it. He looked genuine that it was a penalty.”
Well, it’s hardly a surprise that Arsene Wenger stood up for his players in this matter. The Frenchman has always done that throughout his career and this incident is no different.
Arsenal have learned their fate in the next stage of the Europa League after the quarter-final draw was made in Switzerland.
It’s been a very pleasing last eight days for Arsenal.
A 2-0 first leg victory over AC Milan in the Europa League was followed up with a Premier League win on the weekend and last night, the Gunners secured their third win in a week.
The 3-1 win over AC Milan secured the Gunners’ path into the last eight of the Europa League and the draw was made in Switzerland this afternoon.
Atletico Madrid, CSKA Moscow, Lazio, Marseille, RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg and Sporting Lisbon joined Arsenal in the draw with every side presumably eager to avoid Diego Simeone’s Atletico side.
Well, the draw has been made and Arsenal will take on the Russian side, CSKA Moscow.
CSKA currently lie in third place in the Russian Premier League and got past Lyon in the last round via the away goals rule.
It’s a decent draw for Arsenal. Arsene Wenger and the Gunners players will certainly fancy their chances in this contest – particularly at home – as Wenger looks to win his first European title. CSKA Moscow are a good side but surely the Gunners can reach the next stage.
The first matches will be played on 5 April with the return legs a week later.
