One of the most common questions that I get is: “what are some simple, healthy snack recipes?”. That’s a tough one because it’s a bit of a challenge to create just that, something that’s simple and healthy but easily portable for snacking. These energy balls are a definite go-to when it comes to snacking and the recipe couldn’t be easier to prepare. I love taking these on road trips (I’m going on one tomorrow, in fact) and just having them in the car when I’m out and about for the day. The recipe is really versatile too. You can switch up the nut butter and use almond, cashew, or whatever your favorite is and always add more superfoods like hemp seeds and flax seeds. I use honey in this recipe but if you don’t eat honey, I have a feeling agave would work just the same. So look no further for your new go-to healthy snack, these energy balls have got you covered! Enjoy every bite. Print Peanut Butter Energy Balls Ingredients 2 cups rolled oats ½ cup peanut butter (you may need a little extra) ½ cup honey ¼ cup chia seeds ½ teaspoon salt a pinch of cinnamon […]

When I first started learning about living a healthy lifestyle a part of that included drinking fresh juices. I bought a juicer, lots of fruits and vegetables and started juicing. I loved knowing that I was getting real nutrients, real quick. I learned that there were pros and cons to drinking juice but, honestly, got really into the process, the benefits and the delicious juices themselves. For the past several years, wherever we travel, I’m on the hunt for a good juice bar. Luckily, we have several here in Nashville and my new favorite is Clean Juice. They’re even based out of our home state of North Carolina. All of their juices are made of organic ingredients and taste awesome! I decided to try their one-day juice cleans and I’m glad I did. From my experience, the best way to “get through” a juice fast is to really enjoy the juices you are drinking. From the flavors to the specific nutrition that each juice offers throughout the day, everything is a little more important when you spend a day (or more!) drinking only juice. The main goal of doing a single-day juice cleanse is to detoxify your body and start […]

You probably know by now that taking care of my skin is a big priority. I’ve always had to put in extra effort to get it to where I want it to be and that hasn’t really changed since having a baby. But when I was pregnant my skin felt the best it ever has. It was well hydrated, didn’t ever get breakouts and felt pretty smooth. I think we can blame it on the “pregnancy glow” (thanks hormones) and the fact that most of my pregnancy was during warm months which is when my skin tends to be at its best. A few weeks after we came home from delivering our baby, I started to get some breakouts and dry patches on my skin. I definitely felt like I had lost the glow and was feeling a bit dull. I hadn’t really focused on my skincare routine because who has time for that when they have a newborn?! So with increased sleepiness and dull skin I knew I had to do something. For the past few months I had been using a pretty basic face wash and moisturizer but knew I need to amp up my routine. I’ve always […]

Last March we learned that we were expecting a baby. The due date was November 19thand for this day, I looked forward to for nine months. We shopped, we prepped, we were showered, we made a nursery, we were ready. November 19thcame quicker than I imagined. I woke up that morning feeling every emotion under the sun. As I type these words, they are all flooding back into my mind and it’s almost hard to take in. I remember sitting in the chair in our living room with tears just rolling down my face because this was the day I had waited for. It was finally here. The baby that had been growing in my belly for nine months could possibly make his arrival today and that seemed almost unbelievable. I went about the day as normally as possible. I painted kitchen walls, rearranged the living room, did laundry and tried to keep my mind occupied. We took the afternoon off of house work (remember we were in the midst of kitchen renovations) to celebrate our due date. My mom, Wiley and I went to dinner and strolled around town. We got home around 9:00pm, I walked in the bathroom, […]

Happy 2019 to you! I’m always so thrilled to be in a new year and this year is no different. As you probably know, my 2018 was one for the books as we welcomed our sweet baby Wiley James into the world. He has consumed us in the best possible way and thus, I have put all other things aside including connecting with you here.  But good news, I’m back! I have a new perspective, new intentions, new thoughts, and big dreams. I want to share a few of my thoughts and my mentality for this year in hopes that it will encourage you to be the best YOU!  When I was growing up going to church on Sunday was not only a time to worship but it was a way of life. Our Sunday schedule was created around going to church. After breakfast mom would help me pick out a pretty dress that most often had lace details and a bow in the back, we would put a little curl in my hair and when I was old enough, slipped on a pearl bracelet and necklace. We drove just down the street to church where we spent an hour […]

I’m probably not the only one who can’t believe that fall 2018 is already here! It’s amazing how time flies so quickly. Even though I’ll always love summer the most, this year I’m especially excited about fall. Our baby will arrive during this season and I have never looked forward to anything more. I do love the change of seasons though, because it’s just that- a change. When the weather starts to change, no matter what season, I love cooking with seasonal flavors. The obvious flavor this season: PUMPKIN! I fell in love with the popular fall flavor a few years ago after making my first homemade batch of pumpkin bread. Then I learn all about the nutrients found in pumpkin and I’ve been hooked ever since.  It’s so versatile and can be used in a variety of dishes from savory to sweet and to me, it’s a real winner! As soon as we got back to Nashville this week from North Carolina, I had the urge to make soup. This Pumpkin and Butternut Squash Soup is one that I make a lot during the colder months. It’s really simple and can be frozen and stored for days when cooking […]

This week we returned home from the most wonderful vacation. Wiley and I took our last trip with just the two of us, before sweet baby Jay arrives, and it was perfect. We knew we wanted to be at the beach where we could just relax and enjoy each other and that is exactly what we did! Since moving to Nashville, we have learned where the closest beaches are and 30a along the gulf coast is the quickest trip. We hopped in the car and headed down to Seaside Beach. We have stayed up and down 30a over the past couple of years but this was our first time staying in Seaside and I must say, it was a treat! We were steps away from the beach, spent our days staring at the water and our nights just walking around talking about life. Seaside is a small town along 30a (if you’re not familiar that’s just the main road that runs along the beach) that is full of beautiful beach houses, local restaurants and some of the most charming side walks you’ve ever stepped foot on. We were hosted by the Cottage Rental Agency, who were amazing, and stayed in […]

We all dream, and if we do it right, we dream big. When I was a little girl my biggest dream was to someday, find my Prince Charming, ride off into the sunset with him and never look back. Somehow, before I had even graduated from high school part of that dream came true. Wiley and I have known each other since we were about three years old. We went to the same church together, sang in church plays together and did life around each other but obviously at that age, romance isn’t a priority. Our families always knew of each other, would say “hello” in the grocery store but we weren’t close friends. A few years later, Wiley’s family moved to a different church, we still knew about each other but we went to different schools so we never really hung out. Fast forward to high school. Wiley and his sister were redistricted into my high school and his sister, Callie and I played volleyball together. Callie and I became really good friends and one night there was a big party at a fellow student’s house that everyone went to. Wiley was there and at some point during the […]

It’s August! Which means it’s back to school time, calendars are filling up and schedules aren’t as flexible. We have exactly 90 days until our baby boy’s due date and so we are starting ourselves on a new schedule. We’ve decided to set the alarm a little bit earlier to get up and workout (for Wiley that means running and for me that means walking or yoga or strength training), have breakfast together and get the day started with lots of energy. Since our schedules will be turned upside down come November, we thought it would be good to go ahead and get a jump start on a new routine. As life continues to fill up, it’s super important to me to keep my health on the forefront. I would say the most asked question I get is “what are some easy, healthy snacks to eat on the go?”. I think this is one of the hardest things to do when trying to stay on track but thankfully, there are brands like Peeled Snacks to help! I search high and low for snacks that I can eat throughout the day (I love to snack!) that are filled with nutrition, aren’t […]

You may have heard a saying that goes something like this “pure water is the world’s finest medicine”. The word “medicine” can be interpreted in so many different ways but in my mind it is anything that can alleviate or cure an aliment. If there is any medicine that could be a cure for it all, it would be water and I believe that hydration can do miracles for the body. The list is endless of all the benefits of water but it can easily be overlooked. When I was introduced to this particular water company, I knew I had found something good. Starkey Water is pure spring water that is collected as it comes out of the earth. Water in it’s purest form provides so much for an active and healthy lifestyle. Packaged in a glass bottle, the water is perfect to take on-the-go. I never leave the house without a bottle (or 5) of water and have come to love this Starkey Water for more reasons that one! If you’re not the biggest fan of water, make a goal to drink a certain amount a day and see how it makes you feel (from the inside out) and […]
