The funny thing about SF is… I can be wearing the latest Fall arrivals right now in the middle of July… and feel right at home. It’s still in the mid-60s here!

I’m wearing some of my latest finds from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (which is open to the public starting today!). Here are the items that have me most excited:

  • this oatmeal-colored cashmere sweater with the most elegant neckline
  • this coat is officially the only coat I want to buy right now! it’s sold out in my size but I’ll be checking back often (they sometimes restock during the sale, especially when it opens to the public!)
  • and finally… if there’s one thing I would absolutely recommend: these trousers that I’m wearing. They feel like a stretchy crepe, hold their shape, and look so polished yet easygoing. They are a new favorite (and you know I love a good navy trouser)

Happy Friday and thank you so much for stopping by!

And thank you Nordstrom for partnering with me on this post!

Good morning and happy Wednesday! Counting down the days to another short week – we’re heading to Portland this weekend! We’ll be celebrating our anniversary in the city and then spending the rest of the weekend with family. Do you have any recommendations for Portland? We visit the area often but we’re never actually *staying* in the city! I’m so excited to finally explore.

This post is sponsored by Chloe Wine Collection.

Now that Lucia is older and reliably in her bed by 7:30pm every night, we carve out the post-bedtime sunset hour as a way to relax on the deck. It’s something of a daily ritual at this point: it’s a moment to breathe and take in fresh air, to appreciate the sparkling water in the lagoon and Richardson Bay, and, sometimes with a glass of wine in hand, to say cheers to another beautiful sunset together…

This month we’re celebrating our 3,650th sunset together as a married couple, to be precise.

10 years since our wedding day!

Thanks to many of your recommendations on my Instagram stories earlier this year, we’ve been finding little ways to celebrate throughout the year (like when we finally took family photos together for the first time in Hawaii!). I recently found a way to make our daily sunset routine memorable too – by saying it with Chloe wines.

Named after the ancient word “blooming,” Chloe wines are radiant, with beautiful aromas and luxurious flavors. Winemaker Georgetta Dane creates a portfolio of super premium wines, including Prosecco D.O.C., Valdadige D. O.C. Pinot Grigio, Sonoma County Chardonnay, Central Coast Rose, Monterey County Pinot Noir, San Lucas Estate Vineyard Merlot, San Lucas Cabernet Sauvignon, and North Coast blend, Red No. 249.

I love white wine, so my favorites are the Pinot Grigio (pictured above) and the Chardonnay. In fact, several years ago I discovered Chloe on a search for unique gifts for a large group related to a work event I was organizing. It’s the wine I chose for the occasion! The bottle itself makes a beautiful statement: classic and elegant. And the wine is lovely: fruit-forward (white peach, melon, apple…) and a subtle fresh undertone of Meyer lemon.

This time, I took advantage of Chloe Wine’s custom labeling and presented my husband with two bottles bearing our custom label: one to enjoy now and one to save as a keepsake commemorating our special year. It was easy (and free!) to create online, and surprisingly easy to place on the bottle. Such a personal and elegant touch.

A summer sunset in a bottle. Cheers to many more sunsets together, husband!

You can create your own custom label for any bottle in the Chloe Wine Collection here.

Thank you Chloe Wines for collaborating with me on this post.

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen that last weekend was a tough one: we said our good-byes to our 16-year-old puppy, Mochi.

Even typing that again, days later, feels surreal and sad.

But I’ll choose to remember all the happiest moments with ‘the dog of my life.’ Usually what comes to mind aren’t the special, extraordinary events (which, with this sweet and super-smart dog there were plenty), but the everyday moments that became normal and routine. How she would cuddle me every night – the whole night. How she would greet me and kiss my toes. How she knew she could claim my lap when all three dogs of our were lounging on the couch with me at the end of a long day.

I feel really, really lucky.

Thank you so much for your comments and messages to me over the weekend – it was so incredibly appreciated.

Hope you have a wonderful start to your week and happy Monday!

Earlier this year I had reached out to Betsy, my stylist at Trunk Club, to task her with finding the best pieces for me under $250. You know what I’m talking about: the ones that look and feel way more expensive than they are. Betsy knew all the right pieces to send me and it was thanks to her that I found my favorite light Springtime jacket (worn many times already on the blog). Without having to search through racks all while checking price tags myself!

It worked so well that I was excited to ask her to do it again – this time for Summer’s hit pieces (still under $250). She did not disappoint, and in my most recent Trunk, I ended up buying three new pieces: this sleeveless silk blouse (in a color that I wouldn’t have necessarily chosen myself but works so well with the rest of my neutrals-filled closet), this flattering floral skirt, and the pants I wore in my blog post from earlier this week. Too many good finds – thank you Betsy!

PS: My recent Trunk coincided with Nordstrom’s sale season. As I opened my app to check out Betsy’s selections for me, I received notifications every time an item in my Trunk had been marked down (even before the Trunk had arrived at my doorstep!) – so awesome. I love that they are a Nordstrom company, and I love all the wonderful customer service that goes along with it.

After what seems like a couple of stressful days behind me (and a few more ahead of me…), I did what the 23-year-old me would have done: I indulged in some good old fashioned retail therapy.

I had a fitting room filled with items that caught my eye and here were my under $100 favorites:

  • this $29 camisole – it’s a color I typically don’t wear so the price helped me decide to go for it. In the end, it was the top I wore for most of the try-on session, so I have a feeling it will be an easy go-to.
  • this $59 tweed skirt – I love the length, it’s feminine and fresh.
  • this $98 tweed jacket – it’s one of the items I’m on the fence about. I would probably never pair the skirt with it’s matching jacket, but I do love the texture of the tweed and it goes well with my next item…
  • this $65 tie-waist pant – the color is perfect and the fit is perfect! it’s a better, thicker material than the springtime versions I’ve worn on the blog. This is one that would be worth picking up in more colors (it comes in black, burgundy and blush too!)

I also splurged on three items:

  • this $229 tailored blazer – I love this but it’s also an item I’m on the fence about. I wanted to bring it home with me so that I could compare it to my other similarly-colored blazer. It is a beauty though.
  • the softest cashmere cardigan – this one is so cozy!! I’m going to try it on with a few outfits at home before deciding whether to keep.
  • this pair of trousers – which I have absolutely no reservations about. It is a classic and feels amazing on. It’s stretchy, polished, and all around perfect. It’s something I’ll be wearing over and over again without a doubt.

A few pieces that I didn’t end up buying but also loved:

  • I really love this blazer and trouser suit combo but the pants would be a better fit for someone about 5’5″ and under. I didn’t like where it hit me on my calf (more like mid-calf; I’m 5’8″), but it’s an otherwise perfect suit!
  • I wear a bracelet by this brand daily (it’s one of my everyday pieces!), and love the idea of adding this ring to the mix too.
  • And under strong, strong consideration is this gorgeous coat, styled similarly to a trench coat but in a cozy wool and cashmere.

The early access sale starts online today at for Icon and Ambassador level Nordstrom members, and for cardholders starting Friday!

Happy Thursday and thanks for stopping by!

 On the subject of motherhood…

There are literally thousands, millions of topics to explore. But today I was hoping to address one of them (something I have been asked by readers many times): whether we intend to have only one child or not.

The short answer is: I would love to have a second child and to experience motherhood all over again.

Lucia’s infancy was a veritable blur. The newness, the adventures (they could fill a whole book with real comedy), the overwhelming sense of happiness and worry all in one. If I got to experience it a second time, I would do my best to savor each and every moment, truly.

We had a miscarriage almost two years ago (I wrote about that here). And since then, I have seen too many “negatives” on the little test than I care to count. There is real disappointment and sadness surrounding this, and I know it is an experience that all too many women share in common with me.

I come from a family of two children; my husband’s parents had four. We always loved the idea of having two children. But here is where I think I’m at: we are so lucky to have Lucia and if it doesn’t work out for us then I will count my blessings and do my best to raise this little girl to be a caring, kind citizen of the world.

That she could be an only child shouldn’t really matter.

xx

Good morning! We went on a sunset cruise aboard the Angel Island Ferry over the weekend with my parents. It is such a fun excursion from Tiburon: we first head into Richardson Bay along Belvedere and Sausalito, then turn for the Golden Gate bridge and hang out just in front of the bridge (photo ops!) before heading back to Tiburon. The best part? It’s BYOP (picnic) – we packed our own dessert, wine and refreshments. Not at all fancy, but 100% fun.

Hope you had a great weekend!
