Brussels Sprouts and Baby Kale Caesar Salad

Have you ever been enjoying a nice breakfast and thought, “I would really like a glass of wine with this”? You’re not alone! May 25th is National Wine Day and to celebrate we are providing you with several delicious breakfast food and wine pairings! We had Micheal Shearin, an experienced wine sommelier in the Los Angeles area, look at our menu and our selection of wines to determine the best pairings at Chip’s Family Restaurant!

Pinot Grigio

According to Michael, “Pinot grigio is a zingy white wine that pairs great with most egg dishes. Particularly veggie filled egg dishes.” He recommends you try a glass of pinot grigio with the Primavera Skillet, which is made with crisp potato hash and diced garden vegetables, it’s topped with two eggs any style and a fresh basil aioli. The Chip’s Healthy Omelet would be a great choice too!

Merlot

“Merlot is great to drink with a sweet and savory dish”, states Michael. Try it with the Pigs in a Blanket dish, the Ham and Egg Skillet or the Chicken Sausage and Apple Omelet.

Cabernet Sauvignon

If eggs Benedict had a best friend, it would be a glass of cabernet sauvignon. At Chip’s family restaurant we have a ton of different options for eggs Benedict! So, you can go with the classic eggs Benedict, or you can switch it up with the California Eggs Benedict, the Irish Eggs Benedict and more! Eggs Benedict not your thing? Cabernet Sauvignon is also known to pair well with mushrooms, so adding mushrooms to any of our egg dishes would be a great way to pair this wine.

Mimosa with Zonin Prosecco

When it comes to the classic boozy brunch drink Michael says, “When all else fails this is delicious with everything… even better if you just hold the OJ!”. The most versatile of the wines we carry, you can order a mimosa with pretty much anything on our menu! Craving an egg dish? Order a mimosa! The bubbles and the acidity from the prosecco can cut through that eggy fat. Craving a tasty pancake or waffle? Order a mimosa to make for the perfect sweet brunch! If this list sounds good to you but you aren’t a fan of getting tipsy in the morning, there is no need to worry! Because at Chip’s Family Restaurant we serve all day breakfast! So, you can come in anytime to fulfill your boozy brunch cravings! Celebrate National Wine Day with us and order one of these mouth-watering pairings!

1. Roasted Beet Salad

Slow roasted beets provide the fiber and vitamin C that you need. They can also improve athletic performance! Fresh apples, red onion, crumbled blue cheese, and toasted pecans accompany the beets along with baby kale and a white balsamic vinaigrette.

2. Couscous Chicken Salad

Grilled chicken, diced tomatoes, Bermuda onions, feta cheese, arugula and couscous, tossed in a Greek salad dressing make this salad worthy of your taste buds.

3. Brussels Sprouts and Baby Kale Caesar Salad

Crispy, roasted Brussels sprouts mix with Parmesan cheese, roasted tomatoes, and garlic croutons. We then toss it with baby kale and creamy Caesar dressing.

4. Chip’s Power Salad

This is the perfect salad to give you energy for the rest of your day! Chip’s Power Salad is made with shredded kale, fresh blueberries, cucumber, red onion, protein packed sunflower seeds, grilled chicken breast, and crimson quinoa. It is then tossed in a light champagne vinaigrette making it a nutritious and delicious meal.

5. Turkey Avocado Melt

The turkey avocado melt consists of fresh roasted turkey, avocado, baby spinach, roasted red peppers and mayo, served on sourdough.

6. Veggie Burger

A classic choice for the vegetarians out there, the veggie burger is a Mediterranean vegetable burger topped with tomato chutney, provolone cheese, and spinach on a brioche roll.

7. Roasted Boston Cod

A roasted cod filet is topped with a Greek style salsa. It’s then served with rice pilaf and the veggie of the day!

8. Patriotic Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a great heart healthy meal, so it’s a great way to start the day! We make our patriotic oatmeal with steel cut oats, toasted pecans, and top it off with fresh fruit!

9. Chip’s Healthy Omelet

Chip’s healthy omelet is made with egg whites and then filled with any three veggies of your choice. We also add Canadian or turkey bacon, but you can leave that out to make this a lighter choice! The omelet comes with a cup of fresh fruit and wheat-berry toast.

10. Popeye’s Omelet

The Popeye’s Omelet is an egg white omelet filled with Popeye’s super food (spinach), feta, tomato, and onion. Enjoy one fresh blueberry or strawberry pancake on the side.

This list of food is delicious and nutritious. However, if a stack of pancakes is how you want to prepare for your summer bod, we totally support that too!

Is breakfast the most important meal of the day?
Fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, hash browns and eggs in every style…what’s not to like about breakfast?

It probably goes without saying that here at Chip’s Family Restaurant we are huge fans of the first meal of the day. For years, the general belief has been breakfast is essential to starting your day right and should never be skipped. However, recent studies are suggesting that breakfast might not be particularly important to overall health, and dare we say it, may not even be necessary.  It’s time to end this debate once and for all.

A leading argument in favor of breakfast says eating shortly after waking up kickstarts your metabolism. However, all bodies are different, and routines vary. People who eat breakfast everyday should continue to do so. For those who skip it; it may work best with their schedule, but they must allocate those extra calories into the rest of their meals.

A popular fitness phenomenon that supports delaying breakfast is intermittent fasting. The most common way to go about this is to fit all your meals within an 8-hour time span. This often means breakfast becomes brunch when your first meal is at noon, and your final meal is eaten before 8 p.m. Intermittent fasters report feeling more energized, losing weight and not struggling with hunger at all. This is probably one of the biggest arguments supporting the idea that breakfast is not the most important meal.

Do you remember how often teachers would stress eating breakfast before a big test? That’s because breakfast is the perfect way to jumpstart your day and wake up your mind. Eating a meal in the morning replenishes the glucose that your body lost overnight resulting in an energy boost. When you go without breakfast, your body is starved for energy which may result in low performance and less healthy food choices for the rest of the day. Many common breakfast foods contain healthy nutrients that can power your brain and improve performance.

In conclusion, everybody is different. So, do what works best for you! Starting your day off with a healthy and fulfilling meal might be just what you need to have a productive and successful day. For others, waiting until noon works just fine. Whether you are a fan of eating first thing in the morning or fasting until lunch, Chip’s has all your breakfast favorites all day long and brunch on the weekends!

European women flipping their Shrove Tuesday pancakes!
What is Shrove Tuesday?

Shrove Tuesday, often known as Fat Tuesday or Pancake Day, is the day of feasting and celebration before 40 days of fasting known as Lent. Celebrated by Anglo-Saxon Christians, participants would attend confession in order to be “shriven” (forgiven for their sins). A bell rang to call everyone to church. This bell came to be known as the Pancake Bell and is still rung today.

Another name for this holiday is Mardi Gras which translates to Fat Tuesday in French. Mardi Gras is largely celebrated in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. Parades, parties, and feasts dazzled in colors of green, gold, and purple fill the city for two weeks leading up to Fat Tuesday.

So how are pancakes involved?

Shrove Tuesday was the last day to use up eggs, sugar and fats before the fast, and making pancakes was the perfect way to do it! The ingredients of pancakes also symbolize four pillars of the Christian Faith. Flour for sustenance, eggs for creation, salt for wholesomeness, and milk for purity.

What is the Famous Pancake Race?

In the UK, a popular way to celebrate is by participating in a pancake race. The tradition was created in 1445 when a woman of Olney, Buckinghamshire was making pancakes when she heard the bell summoning her to church. In a rush to get to church, she ran, still in her apron and holding her frying pan. The Olney Pancake Race is now the most popular pancake race in the world. Participants must be local housewives and they must wear an apron. The goal of the race is to run while carrying a frying pan with a cooked pancake inside flipping it as you run. In order to win, the woman must successfully toss the pancake three times throughout the race, reach the church and serve the pancake to the bell ringer. Hundreds of women gather every year to participate in this fun tradition!

This year’s Shrove Tuesday lands on March 5th, so be sure to celebrate racing over to your local Chip’s restaurant and devouring some of our delicious pancakes!

When you’re looking to raise some money to support your college sports team, youth organization, or non-profit group, what fundraising ideas typically come to mind? We’re assuming the classics like bake sales, yard sales, or candy sales. While those are all great, how about going for something a bit more tummy-tingling?

You can have a Breakfast for Dinner fundraiser at Chip’s and raise a ton of money toward your cause! Here’s how it works.

Who We Work With

Our Breakfast for Dinner fundraisers can be used to support K-12 schools, youth groups, university groups, and non-profit organizations.

How To Begin

If you’re interested in hosting a fundraiser with us, you must first apply on our website and provide us with some information. You’re limited to one fundraiser with us per every 12 months. It’s important to note that applying doesn’t guarantee you the event, so you shouldn’t promote anything until we give you the confirmation.

Once You’re Approved

Once your fundraiser is confirmed with our marketing coordinator, we provide you with a few things to help you get the ball rolling:

  • A PDF flyer to promote the event.
  • PDF files of tickets to sell.
Tickets?

Yes, tickets! We give you a number of tickets to sell to those who want to participate in the fundraiser. They’ll show those tickets to your greeter once they arrive at the event and that helps ensure your guests get their meal and that the guest is at the correct seating time.

The best part about those tickets? You keep 100% of the proceeds!

Seating Times

To ensure we can serve all your guests, we provide you with three separate seating times throughout the night. Each seating time can have 60 people in attendance, for a grand total of 180 guests at your fundraiser.

What Guests Get

Once guests show their tickets, Chip’s will provide them with a meal of:

  • 2 plain pancakes
  • 2 pieces of bacon or sausage
  • 2 eggs, any style
  • Coffee/tea or a soft drink

Are you ready to raise money with Chip’s? Head over to our website and fill out the fundraiser application!
