Racing on Sunday is at Seoul (11 races from 10:45 to 18:00) & Busan (6 races from 12:40 to 17:05). Here are the previews:

Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

A maiden to kick things off with and having been just beaten a head over this distance on June 9th, (11) HAERANG looks to have as good a chance as any of making the breakthrough here on what will be her eighth career start. She will, however, have to overcome the widest draw to get on pace early alongside (9) JEONGJOUI KKUM, who has shown steady improvement over three starts so far, culminating in 2nd place last time, and can continue his development here. (3) JEJUI YOJEONG also demonstrated improvement on what was just her second outing last month while (4) WHITE COMET and (6) ROYAL REMEMBER look to be others with solid claims of a place.

Selections (11) Haerang (9) Jeongjoui Kkum (4) White Comet (3) Jejui Yojeong

Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1200M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

A field of eleven maidens will line up in the second on the card where there is a severe lack of early pace engaged. (11) BLUE DAEJAYEON will be a beneficiary of this as Jo Jae-Ro should be able to work forward on the three-year-old from a wide draw. The son of Exploit finished second last time out behind Royal Smarty and although beaten five lengths, his form reads well on a relative basis. (6) SOLGAEBARAM ran a much-improved race last time out. He was beaten under three lengths when finishing fifth over 1000m. He settled back and hit the line well suggesting the step up to the 1200m should suit. (10) ROAD HILL STORM will get the services of Moon Se-Young in this race. The Testa Matta three-year-old ran through the line fairly last time out over the 1000m in a respectable time. (9) DIAVOLA has been well beaten of late but looks the best of the rest.

Selections (11) Blue Daejayeon (6) Solgaebaram (10) Road Hill Storm (9) Diavola

Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

(1) CHEONHA YEOJE has been going consistently close and with Moon Se Young returning to the mount today, it could be time she made her breakthrough. She looks set to lead in a race that seems to lack much in the way of speed, and she can go all the way. (5) NAE GIRUI BIT may have been indifferent when running two weeks ago but prior to that performed well when beating a couple of these on his way to 3rd place at this distance. One of those behind him that day was (10) BLUE BAND and she should have scope for improvement. (6) PUNGMUNEURO and (9) IRON HEART are others who should be in with a shout of a place.

Selections (1) Cheonha Yeoje (9) Iron Heart (10) Blue Band (5) Nae Girui Bit
Next Best 6, 11, 3

Seoul Race 4: Class 5 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million

A field of nine will line up in the fourth where we are likely to see a short-priced favourite. (6) HUSH DAEBO was a brilliant six length winner last time out in Class 6 company. He sat just off the speed before extending nicely and winning in a good time over the 1300m for this class. Expect a similar ride from Moon Se-Young who partners him for the third time. (8) HEY DREAMER looks the main danger. He finished second in similar company last time out behind Private Man. He is likely to settle back from the wide draw as he hasn’t had much gate speed of late. We can take confidence with our on top selection given Moon Se-Young rode both of them late time out and elected to ride Hush Daebo. (7) DREAM MONEY is likely to spring the gates and work forward early. He was a good winner last time out in a weak field. (3) CHEON GOE SEONG managed to place in similar company last time out and should be kept safe in your wider selections.

Selections (6) Hush Daebo (8) Hey Dreamer (7) Dream Money (3) Cheon Goe Seong

Seoul Race 5: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Juvenile maidens racing for a big prize here. Two of the twelve have raced before and one of them, (6) TAKTUEIN, looks set to be banker favourite of the day. She ran 2nd in a fast time on debut on June 15th having led until close to home and she should have way too much here. (1) DASI DUSON also ran 2nd on her own debut two weeks ago, albeit in a significantly slower time and she has scope to place again. As for the first-timers, the only trial winner among them is (4) SAMSEONG VIVA and that puts him in the hunt. Expect him to be on speed early. (8) MENI HERO and (9) MEOTJIN GEUMSEONG are others who showed some ability in their respective heats and can go well first-up.

Selections (6) Taktuein (1) Dasi Duson (4) Samseong Viva (9) Meotjin Geumseong

Busan Race 2: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million
(1) HALLA HWANGHU has led from gate to wire in both her latest two, the latter of which was at this class. Both were at 1000M and today marks the first time she’s tackled further than the minimum distance but from the inside, if she can get on top again, she can win again. Plenty of other contenders though. (3) B.K. UNO ran 4th in a good class and distance affair in May and looks nicely in to go close again while (2) GIANT’S BIZ ran poorly last start but does have ability and can bounce back today. (9) YEONGGWANGUICHEON has never finished worse than 3rd and is up in class following a maiden win over 1000M last time out. This is tougher but not impossible. (11) JJUUK looks best of the rest.

Selections (1) Halla Hwanghu (3) B.K. Uno (2) Giant’s Biz (9) Yeonggwanguicheon
Next Best 11, 4
Fast Start 1, 4, 9, 10

Seoul Race 6: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million
The sixth on the card is not the strongest Class 5 we have seen however there looks to be a few chances. Last start winner (2) WIND RIVER is likely to head the market after a victory in Class 6 company last time out. The Ecton Park filly showed a dazzling turn of foot to gobble up the field at big odds. She is lightly weighted with the claim of Moon Sung-Hyeok, don’t be surprised if she drops out early. (6) GOLD PERILLA looks the leader in a field that lacks early speed. She led and won in her maiden victory three starts back. Her most recent run was fair when fourth behind New Paradigm. (3) LUCKY SOCHEON has been mixing her form of late but if everything goes her way she can figure. The three-year-old ran on well last time out when the race was all over. Boo Min-Ho will make a rare appearance on (5) PARTY POWER who has placed at her past two starts.

Selections (2) Wind River (6) Gold Perilla (3) Lucky Socheon (5) Party Power
Next Best 7, 8
Fast Start 6

Busan Race 3: Class 3 (1400M) Allowance / KRW 75 Million
(11) YEONGSEONG ACE found himself overmatched in the KRA Cup Mile in April but has since returned to win back to back races including his latest at class and distance on June 9th. He carries an additional 3kg today but should be able to cope with it and can win again. (12) KINGSTON HARBOR has been an impressive winner of his latest two, both over 1300M. He’s up in distance today but has run well at a mile before and looks to be a big threat. (9) YES POWER was a slightly disappointing 8th behind Yeongseong Power when well backed last month but can be given another chance here despite the weight once more being against him. (4) SUN DAY and (7) RED CLOUD are others capable of going close.

Selections (11) Yeongseong Ace (12) Kingston Harbor (9) Yes Power (4) Sun Day
Next Best 7, 10
Fast Start 1, 4, 7, 8

Seoul Race 7: Class 4 (1000M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

Fillies only (and a couple of mares) here. (1) CHARON BLADE ran a close 2nd in a tough race over 1300M on her latest start back in April. She’s been off since then but returns for a stable bang in form and drops back to a trip at which she won the last time he tackled it. She’ll come from behind the pace and could win again. (2) LUCKY BONGSEONG is up in class following an all the way eight-length score at this distance last time. She too returns for the first time since Aril but is well drawn to get to the front and can make all once more. (7) BROWN ROSE had a poor day at the office last time out but steps back in trip and should be better today. (5) GAL IP and (8) BIG THUNDER, the latter a slightly unexpected winner at this class over 1200M last time out, are others in the hunt.

Selections (1) Charon Blade (2) Lucky Bongseong (7) Brown Rose (5) Gal Ip
Next Best 8, 4
Fast Start 2, 4, 6, 11

 Busan Race 4: Class 3 (1800M) Allowance / KRW 75 Million
(7) STAR ROAD has won his latest two in fine fashion and steps up in class and in distance today with solid claims to make it three in a row. He can sit behind the early speed and the Bernardini colt can be too strong late on. (1) CHIEF LEADER started poorly and didn’t improve last time out at class and distance. The previous time he won though and can be given another chance today. (6) CHOEGANG BULLET come sin having run a close 3rd over 1400M and steps back up to a distance that he won at in March and he should be in the frame as well. (2) BAEDARI GOSU and (3) THEHIMCHAN, the latter of whom looks set to lead early, are others capable of going close.

Selections (7) Star Road (6) Choegang Bullet (1) Chief Leader (2) Baedari Gosu
Next Best 3, 5
Fast Start 3

 Seoul Race 8: Class 5 (1700M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million
The eighth on the card will see a field of eleven line up over two turns. (1) DAL SUNI has shown a liking for the 1700m placing at his past three starts over the distance including a Class 6 victory two starts ago. The Colors Flying filly then backed it up with a good second behind Full Moon Sky early June. She is likely to get a world-perfect run from the inside draw and prove hard to beat. (5) INDEPENDENCE has started to find form with leading rider Kim Yong-Geun building a good relationship with the colt. He is heading into unchartered territory as he steps up to the 1700m but his form of late suggests he is an each-way chance. (2) RAON MIRACLE has been thereabouts at his past few runs and should always be considered a place chance in this company. (3) ROYAL SMARTY took out a relatively weak Class 6 race last time out but should be kept safe in your selections.

Selections (1) Dal Suni (5) Independence (2) Raon Miracle (3) Royal Smarty
Next Best 7, 4
Fast Start 1, 9

Busan Race 5: Class 2 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million
(1) TANGY BITE returned to form with a good win over 1200M three weeks ago at this class. He carries an additional 3.5kg today but has plenty of talent and while he’s not a front-runner, with the inside draw, the drop back to 1200M should do him no harm at all. (3) I’M YOUR LEMON is up in class after a swift, albeit wet track assisted, win over this distance last start. She’s another who likes to come from off the pace and should be a threat. (4) MUJEOK YEONGUNG is up in class but very nicely in under a light weight and can be competitive from the front. (7) USEUNG HWANHO and (8) SEGI GANGHA are other dangers.

Selections (1) Tangy Bite (3) I’m Your Lemon (4) Mujeok Yeongung (8) Segi Gangja
Next Best 7, 6
Fast Start 4, 6, 7

Seoul Race 9: Class 4 (1700M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(5) SMARTY BLUE made all to win as favourite over class and distance on June 16th. He carries a little bit more weight today but looks to have potential for further development still and can be backed for a repeat here. The main danger is (1) YORI JORI. She finally made her breakthrough at the 13th time of asking last month over 1300M and steps up to tackle two turns for the first time today. Also stepping up in trip is (2) STRO REA, who ran on nicely over 1300M on her returns from five months off in May and can benefit from the increase in distance here. (8) MIGHTY JOHN comes in off the back of consecutive 4th place finishes, both of them at class and distance and can aim to at least match those today. The wildcard is (3) FLASH JET, who remains a maiden but ran 3rd at this distance in February prior to a four-month lay-off.

Selections (5) Smarty Blue (1) Yori Jori (2) Stro Rea (8) Mighty John
Next Best 3, 6

Busan Race 6: Class 1 (1800M) Allowance / KRW 110 Million
(12) NEW YORK MANGCHI was a class and distance winner on May 26th with a couple of these back down the track behind him. He actually carries less weight today and looks to have solid claims to score once more. (1) CHIEF ACE has won three of his last four to get promoted to this level. He’s never been worse than 5th and looks nicely in for his first class 1 crack today. He made all to win over 2000M on his latest start and while that was all the way back in April, he can win first-up here. (4) AMERICAN POWER and (5) CHOEGANG THUNDER ran 5th and 6th respectively behind New York Mangchi last time out and both could get closer today. (9) THE GRAND comes in following back to back runner-up finishes and is another in at least the placing hunt.

Selections (12) New York Mangchi (1) Chief Ace (4) American Power (9) The Grand
Next Best 5, 8
Fast Start 1, 4, 9

Seoul Race 10: Class 2 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million
A compact field of eight will line up over the 1400m in the tenth where there looks to be only a few winning chances. (7) THUNDER MARK has proven to be a handy import for Park Dae-Heung winning two races from six starts including five top three finishes. She won last time out in Class Three company by two lengths when sent out favourite. She is well weighted with just 52.5kg, she normally sits in the leading division so look for her to work forward early. (4) CHOCO CANDY returns to her own class today after running last in the Ttukesom Handicap. She was progressing nicely through the grades before going to the feature and should be respected. (6) SEONGPA handed in a better effort last time out when second behind Munhak Joy. He finds a relatively easier assignment today and is a place chance. (3) SPECIAL STONE finished a distant third last time out over the 1800m. She drops back today to the 1400m and gets a nice draw with 52kg. Keep her safe in your wider selections.

Selections (7) Thunder Mark (4) Choco Candy (6) Seongpa (3) Special Stone
Next Best 5, 8
Fast Start 4, 6, 7

Seoul Race 11: Class 3 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(6) MUNHAK TSUNAMI comes in having beaten two of these on his way to victory at class and distance on June 16th. He made all that day and while he does carry an additional 3kg today, he can win again. The primary danger is (7) GAENARI SONG. A winner of four from six in total and both of his latest two, he steps up in both class and distance here for a deadly jockey/trainer combination. The weights are in his favour and he has very solid claims of completing a hat-trick. (5) BLUE MA STAR ran 3rd to Munhak Tsunami in that race four weeks ago and can be a threat once more while (1) WILD FIGHT and (3) DAEGUN JEPAE are others with placing hopes.

Saturday sees a 10-race afternoon and evening card at Seoul running from 14:50 to 21:00.  Here are the previews:

Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

A competitive Class 6 event will kick us off on Saturday over the five furlongs. (6) JEONGSANG STAR looks one of the main chances after finishing second behind Prime Queen last time out only beaten 1.5L. The three-year-old sat behind the pacemakers and hit the line well. This looks no harder and she should get every chance with not too much speed drawn inside of her. (5) AN MOK HANG has had just the two career starts to date. The Exploit filly was one paced last time out when beaten four lengths behind Wind River. (2) DALLINEUN ACE is the most experienced galloper in the field with eleven starts under his belt. He will get the services of Kim Yong-Geun for the first time and is coming off successive placed performances. (8) GYEONGGUKJIMA finished second behind Geom Hyang last time out and can figure again.

Selections (6) Jeongsang Star (5) An Mok Hang (2) Dallineun Ace (8) Gyeonggukjima

Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

There only appears to be a handful of chances in the second. (4) EAGLE EYE looks hard to beat coming off a last start second behind Hush Daebo. Leading rider Kim Yong-Geun will partner the Thunder Moccasin filly once again and from barrier four she will take some beating. Expect her to settle in the first four. (10) MANA HANA showed a good turn of foot last time out to finish fourth behind Simon Queen. The three-year-old will have the claim of Jo Sang-Beom. Kim Deok-Hyeon will partner (6) MACH THUNDER for the first time. The colt was slightly disappointing last time out when fading in the run home, but the run prior was good. The apprentice’s claim will assist. (9) SPADE MASHIE has burnt punters a few times, but he looks one that will pick up a maiden win eventually.

Selections (4) Eagle Eye (10) Mana Hana (6) Mach Thunder (9) Spade Mashie
Next Best 8, 1
Fast Start 1, 6

Race 3: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

The third on the card has limited speed engaged in the field of nine. (1) ACHIEVE has begun her career in superb style, winning on debut and following it up with a placed performance last start behind Super Yeowang. Moon Se-Young was aboard for the maiden victory and will reunite with the four-year-old once again. From barrier one she will jump and run and prove hard to beat. (9) QUEEN OF CAMP has had nine starts for five top three finishes. Lim Gi Won was aboard the three-year-old last time out when second behind Young Storm. The filly is still looking for her first win but should be respected in this event. (7) DANGDAE JILJU has placed in similar company. Lee Dong Ha will pilot the Winchester filly after finishing in the money last time out. The 1300m will suit her but she is likely to settle midfield from the gate. (2) FEDERAL CAT has raced well early on in his career finishing in the top three on three occasions from five starts. He is likely to be ran off his feet early, but he will hit the line strong.

Selections (1) Achieve (9) Queen Of Camp (7) Dangdae Jilju (2) Federal Cat
Next Best 4, 6
Fast Start 1, 6

Race 4: Class 4 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

A field on nine inexperienced imports will take to the track in the fourth with four of them having their first start in a race. (9) KINGS STEP ran the arms off the clock last time out when running the 1000m in one-minute flat on a good track. The Australian bred has been elevated up the weight scale but should be hard to beat on his recent performance. He looks a short course specialist. (7) AMERICAN FORCE ONE will have his third start in this event. Moon Se-Young will be legged aboard the two-year-old for the first time. The Gemologist colt hit the line strong last time out when it was all over. (4) GEUMJAYU debuts for trainer Park Byeong-Il and will be ridden by Antonio Da Silva. The filly’s trial appeared the best of the debutants engaged. (3) JEONGSAN SMART ran a respectable trial and should be kept safe in any exotic bets.

Selections (9) Kings Step (7) American Force One (4) Geumjayu (3) Jeongsang Smart
Next Best 1, 5
Fast Start 4, 5, 9

Race 5: Class 6 (1700M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

Nine maiden gallopers will line up over the 1700m in the fifth on the card. (6) DALLYEORA SOKBO looks the one to beat coming off successive placed performances including a second over the 1700m last time out. The One Cool Cat only finished three quarters of a length away from Jungdong Dokju which reads well for this race. (8) SUPER VICTORY was a notable improver last time out when third behind Prima Nike. The filly will step up to the 1700m for the first time. Lee Dong-Ha thought she appreciated being sent forward last time out so don’t be surprised to see her ridden aggressively out of the gates. (2) CUTIE BARBIE is starting to show some improvement and is a chance of finishing in the top three. (4) FIRST THUNDER is yet to place but looks the best of the rest.

Selections (6) Dallyeora Sokbo (8) Super Victor (2) Cutie Barbie (4) First Thunder
Next Best 7, 3
Fast Start 5, 8, 9

Race 6: Class 4 (1700M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

The sixth has a small field of eight to line up but they look a progressive bunch of Class 4 gallopers. Moon Se-Young possesses the best strike rate in Seoul, and he can maintain it here with a handy colt named (8) RAYMOND. He will carry equal top weight but his performances of late have been brilliant. He has won with 57kg before albeit in weaker company, but it is an important statistic to consider going into the race. The other equal top weight is (1) WONDERFUL EVIL who comes off a second behind Eorin Wangja. The three-year-old wasn’t quite up to the elite youngsters after finishing well back in the Derby but has proven himself over a middle distance. (4) RAON DOLPUNG is still a maiden after twenty-two starts but continues to rack up the prizemoney. He has placed on numerous occasions over the 1700m and looks one to include in the wider selections. (3) LIVINGSTONE enters Class 4 company after a victory last time out. This will be tougher, but the son of Magician has been consistent to date.

Selections (8) Raymond (1) Wonderful Evil (4) Raon Dolpung (3) Livingstone
Next Best 2, 7
Fast Start 3, 5, 8

Race 7: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

The seventh on the card has a lack of depth engaged with the best chances drawn towards the inside. (3) GABO PULL QUEENlooks the likely short-priced favourite as she is yet to finish worse than third from her three starts including a win. Park Eul-Woon was aboard last time when she finished second behind Miss Gella. The chestnut looks to get a perfect run on-speed from barrier three. (4) CAMP TOUCH ran a good sectional last time out when coming from well back on the turn to finish fourth behind Geumseong Yeowang. This is her second preparation and she looks one that can finish in the money at her thirteenth start. (2) NEUL PUREUN CAT won on debut and has only been fair since. Whilst his form is mediocre at best, he does appear a place chance with a lack of depth engaged. (1) DADABI looks the best of the rest.

Selections (3) Gabo Pull Queen (4) Camp Touch (2) Neul Pureun Cat (1) Dadabi
Next Best 5, 6
Fast Start 2, 3

Race 8: Class 4 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Nine Korean-bred gallopers will line up in the eighth on the card. (5) BARAMEUL GEURIDA is proving to be a handy horse for connections after winning two from eight starts including four places. The Blue Pin colt led throughout last time defeating Endurance. Expect Moon Se-Young to work forward on the galloper early on and prove hard to run down. (8) I.B.S QUEEN is another that’s performed well early on in the career. The grey sat in the leading division last time out when second behind Best Star. She looks nicely weighted and an each-way chance in the nine-horse field. (1) DELTA K has won just the two races from twenty-five starts but looks a place chance. He placed at an each-way price last time out and has drawn favourably. (7) HENNESSY DANCER has been collecting a cheque of late and looks the best of the rest.

Selections (5) Barameul Geurida (8) I.B.S. Queen (1) Delta K (7) Hennessy Dancer
Next Best 2, 4
Fast Start 5, 6, 8

Race 9: Class 4 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

A field of eight imports will go over the 1300m in the ninth on the card. There look to be a few chances engaged with one of them being (5) FIGHTING LANGFUHR who resumes since being off the scene since January. The three-year-old finished second last time out behind Benedict over the 1300m. He should be an each-way chance with several chances engaged. (6) FLORIDA POWER saluted at big odds last time out when rebounding from a disappointing debut performance. Leading rider Kim Yong-Geun will have his first ride on the filly who will have to carry an additional three kilograms this time out. (3) P N S JEFF ran a better race last start when third behind Florida Power who he will line up against once again. Apprentice Kim Deok Hyeon has a brilliant strike rate and he will be legged aboard the Zebedee gelding. (1) FINAL CANGINO has been sent out fancied at his first two starts but is yet to impress. Look for improvement.

Selections (5) Fighting Langfuhr (6) Florida Power (3) P N S Jeff (1) Final Cangino
Next Best 2, 4
Fast Start 3, 5, 8

Race 10: Class 2 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million

A compact but wide-open affair will see us out on Saturday. One horse representing some value is (4) CRAZY WIKI who is promoted to Class 2 company after finishing second last time out over the 1200m. The chestnut will appreciate the drop in weight and looks to position midfield. He has the ability to run a good sectional so look for him lengthening at the top of the straight. (8) HAE HU was a good winner last time out in Class Three company. He led throughout on that occasion and should sit in the leading division in this event. (1) OKAY QUEEN cannot be discounted as she saluted in this class last start. She will have to carry 4kg more but her class will get her a long way with a good draw. (6) HWA GI was disappointing last time out when last after being sent out second favourite by punters. The Big Brown filly has shown enough to give her another chance. Moon Se Young has been aboard her once for one win and will partner her again.

Selections (4) Crazy Wiki (8) Hae Hu (1) Okay Queen (6) Hwa Gi

The weekend’s racing gets underway at Busan on Friday with 9 races from 14:30 to 21:00. Here are the previews:

Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

The first race to get us underway has a field of ten two-year-olds with eight of them having their first start in a race. It seems hard to go past the runners with experience here and (8) TWO TWO FAIRY looks the one to beat coming off a good performance when fourth behind Top Ace. The Hansen filly was beaten less than two lengths when having her first start and should take improvement from the run. (3) YEONGGWANGUI TIME comes out of the same race when finishing sixth. The filly should be able to get an economic run from barrier three with Choi Si-Dae taking the reins. (6) DOCTOR CARSON was good in his trial when running 1.03.2. Whilst not the fastest time on a wet track he was not fully extended by Jin Kyum. (5) WONDERFUL FLASH is another that trailed well and can figure with the right run.

Selections (8) Two Two Fairy (3) Yeonggwangui Time (6) Doctor Carson (5) Wonderful Flash

Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

A compact field of eight will line up over the 1300m in the second. (3) MERCI CHERIE brings the strongest form into a race that lacks depth. The Colors Flying colt finished second last time out in similar company when running on well from a midfield position. If he can sit in the first half, he should take some beating. (7) THUNDER BAY is still early in his career and showed improvement last time out. He ran on well last time out and he will get longer to wind up as he steps up to the 1300m for the first time. (2) BICHUI HOWI drops back from the mile where she placed last time out. That was her first top three finish from seven starts. (4) ANGEL KING STAR will have his second career start after finishing fifth on debut. He is another that can improve.

Race 3: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

A field of eight lines up in the third once again over the 1300m. (5) PARADISE KING was promising on debut when finishing third behind Spice Rock. The three-year-old placed third in a blanket finish last time out when beaten less than two lengths. Top rider Choi Si-Dae will partner the chestnut once again. (8) MENI QUEEN was good in a recent trial when winning the event over 1000m. She coasted through the line in the event when running a fair time. (2) DARUI BADA ran on well last time out over the 1000m and will appreciate the step up to the 1300m. (3) PARTY WINNER drops back from the mile to line up in this event. The four-year-old has finished in the top five on four occasions from six starts.

Race 4: Class 5 (1600M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million

The fourth on the card is by far the hardest race on the card to assess. With Seo Seung-Un suspended You Hyun-Myung has picked up a handy ride on (4) YEONGGWANGUI CHEER. The three-year-old has been racing well of late and backed up his maiden win with a runner-up performance in Class 5 company last time out. He has to carry the 57kg but he looks one of the main chances in a wide open race. (5) ROSE BULLET is another that backed up his maiden with a good performance when second behind Karin. Iaonnis Polluis will pilot the three-year-old from gate five which will suit his racing pattern. (7) PEACE RIDER placed last time out when third behind Daeho Jilju. He is yet to break maiden status but looks an each-way chance. (10) BAENGNICHONG was racing well before a break in weaker grade. The four-year-old has had a trial coming into this preparation.

Race 5: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

The fifth on the card has several chances with a field of eleven to line up over the six furlongs. (7) ULSAN JANGGUN has been thereabouts in this company at his past few starts and comes off a good performance behind Vega Thunder last time out. You Hyun-Myung will ride the three-year-old who should be an each-way price. (1) NAEGA SAEGANGJA goes into this race after trialing mid-June. The Hansen gelding won a Class 6 event last time out in good fashion and has never finished worse than fourth. (11) BAEJJANG saluted in similar company last time out and as a result has been elevated in the weight scale. He is every chance of winning again but the outside draw may prove problematic. (6) NEW JACK SWING retains the services of Choi Si-Dae after finishing fourth last time out. He looks a place chance at best.

Race 6: Class 4 (1400M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Spare a thought for the race caller in the sixth with the likes of Yeonggwanguiforce, Hwarangui Huye, Bundanuibyeokneome and Widaehangwanggyong going around in the same race. One of the easier names to pronounce is (4) HANSEN DREAM who looks one of the main chances in a race with plenty of exposed form. The ghostly grey put pay to his rivals at his first two race starts including an impressive four length win last time out. Another one that is two for two is (9) BUNDANUIBYEOKNEOME which leading rider You Hyun-Myung will partner with from an awkward draw. The three-year-old has sat on speed at both of his two wins so expect the Colors Flying gelding to charge forward straight after the gates open. (3) JANGSAN JOY comes back to easier company after going around in the Korean Derby last time out. (7) YEONGGWANGUIFORCE has placed at his past three starts and rarely runs a bad race. They should run a good time in this event.

Race 7: Class 3 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

The seventh on the card is another tough race where if you land the winner you should get a good price. (4) THUNDER RAIN always attracts support due to his consistency. He has won up to 1300m and he ran through the line well last time out. He has finished in the top three on six occasions from nine career starts. (7) PERFECT SINHWA had his first run back last time out since July last year. He finished fourth behind I’m Your Lemon when settling midfield and running through the line well. It was quite some time between runs and he will be better for the run. (1) BAENGNYEON SIDAE is not necessarily advantaged from an inside draw but will be hitting the line strong. The lightly weighted four-year-old has previously shown a good turn of foot and should not be discounted. (10) UJU DAEWANG looks a place chance third-up in her preparation.

Race 8: Class 3 (1800M) Allowance / KRW 75 Million

A handy bunch of gallopers will take to the track in the eighth over the two turns. (%) MALIBU BYEOL looks a nice galloper for trainer Bart Rice. The three-year-old import has won two from five and looks suited in this with a reasonable draw. Jin Kyum takes over from Franco Da Silva. (6) GYEONGJUUI DUREBAK was runner up behind outsider Sakisaki last time out. The filly is lightly weighted with just the 52kg and is a winning chance after running a good time on a dry track last time out. (10) CURLIN FANTASY is still a maiden after sixteen starts but has ran some good races behind some talented types. He will break through it is just a matter of when he does so. You Hyun-Myung will ride (2) I’M YOUR MOTHER and had to jump off a few others in this race to do so. The import finished third behind Alphaking Iji last time out and should be respected.

The last on the card is at Class 2 level and it is fair to say it’s not the strongest we’ve seen. (3) FIRST CHANGER looks a beneficiary of a weaker assignment today. The Kang Eun-Seok trained galloper has won three from seven and apart from a slightly disappointing performance last time out, he has been a good horse for punters in his seven start career to date. (4) DANGDAE ALPHA ran a handy third last time out over the six furlongs. He has been a good horse for connections to date and gets another chance to earn in this race. (1) UBAKI has finished behind the placegetters at his two most recent runs. The veteran nine-year-old will shuffle back and hit the line strong. (8) WHISPER WISH hasn’t saluted since mid-last year but is always a chance of bobbing up in the money.

Jo Sung Gon, five-time Champion Jockey at Busan and one of the top Korean riders of his generation, has died. He was 37.

Jo Sung Gon and Dangdae Bulpae after another President’s Cup win

Jo was found in his car by staff at the Busan Racecourse in the early hours of Tuesday morning. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

Debuting in 2005 at around the same time Busan Racecourse opened, Jo Sung Gon quickly built up a reputation as a fine young rider and one of the new track’s potential stars. His first big race win came in the 2009 Korean Derby on the filly Sangseung Ilro and in the same year he won what would be the first of five South Coast Jockey Championships.

Jo Sung Gon 1982-2019

The second of those Championships followed a year later and it was that same year, 2010, when he first became acquainted with the horse he will likely be most remembered for, Dangdae Bulpae.

Having won the Minister’s Cup, the final leg of the Triple Crown in October 2010, a month later Dangdae Bulpae and Jo Sung Gon won the first of what would be three President’s Cups.

With Dangdae Bulpae, Jo also won the Ttukseom Cup and KNN Cup in 2011, the Busan Mayor’s Cup and Owners’ Cup in 2012 and the Busan Ilbo Cup in 2013. He would finish as Champion Jockey in each of those seasons.

As his career developed, Jo Sung Gon developed a strong partnership with trainer Peter Wolsley, the pair combining to win the Gyeongnam Governor’s Cup with Secret Whisper in 2013 and then in 2015, in what for both would be a career-high, the Grand Prix Stakes with Bold Kings.

A three-year-old, Bold Kings had only raced six times prior to the Grand Prix, Korea’s most prestigious race, and despite having won all of them, was sent off as a 6/1 third-favourite behind Clean Up Joy and fellow youngster Triple Nine.

Under a tremendous ride by Jo Sung Gon, Bold Kings stole a couple of lengths entering the home straight to strike the front and then held off a slew of late challenges to win by a neck on the line in what is still regarded by many as having been the most exciting finish to a Grand Prix.

Always keen for new challenges – earlier in his career he had spent time riding in Macau – Jo Sung Gon spent the 2016 season in Seoul where he partnered Bichui Jeongsang to victory in the Ttukseom Cup.

That would be his final Group winner although after returning to Busan and reuniting with Wolsley, he guided Ace Korea to victory in the Listed Kookje Sinmun in November 2018.

An excellent jockey who was still at the peak of his powers, as well as a friendly and personable character, Jo Sung Gon will be missed. Thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.

There’s a big day of racing on Sunday with 11 races at Seoul from 10:45 to 18:00 and 6 races at Busan from 12:40 to 17:05. Here are the previews fro Seoul with Busan selections below:

Moon Se Young is back from suspension on Sunday and is likely to be among the winners

Race 1: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

Eight maidens line up in the first at Seoul over the 1300m. here appears to be a lack of speed engaged which looks to suit (3) NALARA HILL. The Seo In-Seok trained filly ran well last time out when second to Raon Khan over the six furlongs. The 1300m should be ideal for her and punters should expect Moon Sung-Hyeok to work forward on her early. (7) BAEKSAEK GWANGCHAE has been tried several times over the 1300m and has placed on multiple occasions. The grey colt is not the fastest away but if Kim Hyo-Jung can position him in the first half he will be one of the main players. (8) WONDERFUL PANGPANG showed early speed last time out. If the Chapel Royal filly can bounce out of the gates quick once again she may be able to hold on for a cheque. (5) CHEONJI AEGA is having her second race start in this race. Look for improvement.

Selections (3) Nalara Hill (7) Baeksak Gwangchae (8) Wonderful Pangpang (5) Cheonji Aega

Race 2: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

Leading rider Kim Yong-Geun looks to have a peach of a ride in the second. The lightly raced (6) O.K. DAY is having his fifth start in this assignment and looks hard to roll based on his recent form. The First Samurai colt went down less than a length las time out when running a handy time for this class on a dry track. Expect a positive ride and the four-year-old to be hard to reel in. (5) IL MARE has finished in the top four on four occasions from six starts. Alan Munro was rubbed out last time he went around but was aboard two starts back when the colt saluted. The Eurosilver three-year-old is another that likes to sit on speed. (2) ENDURANCE looks the best of the remainder after finishing second behind Barameul Geurida last time out. He was beaten a comfortable seven lengths on a wet track but has shown enough early on in his career to suggest he can figure. (7) FLYING JOY looks the best of the rest albeit a twenty start maiden.

Selections (6) O.K. Day (5) Il Mare (2) Endurance (7) Flying Joy

Race 3: Class 6 (1000M) 2yo Allowance / KRW 60 Million

We get to see another batch of two-year-olds having their first start in the third event on the card. Trial times (taking into account track conditions) are normally a very good guide to these events and there looks to be a couple of sharp ones in this event. (12) COMPLETE KINGDOM ran 1.01.8 on a good track in his 1000m trial which is just short of a second quicker than the remainder of the field in their respective trials. What made the trial even more impressive was the Colors Flying colt was not asked for entirely. He looks hard to beat. (8) CHOEGANG TEAM won his trial in good fashion. Moon Se-Young will partner the chestnut for his first run after a solid 1.02.8 trial mid-June. (5) RAON BEST MAN is another trial winner who overcame a wide draw in the trial. He will need to improve on that trial which is not out of the question. The owners seem to get some handy types. (9) LEGEND WIN ran a fair time on a rain affected track and should be kept safe in your novelty bets.

Selections (12) Complete Kingdom (8) Choegang Team (5) Raon Best Man (9) Legend Win

Race 4: Class 5 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million

Another short course event will take place in the fourth with ten gallopers lining up at Class 5 level. (10) GEOM HYANG has improved at each of her starts since having her first run in February. The Clear Attempt filly blew them away last time out when leading throughout and going on to win by five lengths. (8) UTGE HAEJULGE is another that has been consistent early on in his career. The three-year-old won well last time out when winning by a massive eight lengths. Clear Geom ran a faster time on similar track conditions and therefore gets the nod over him. (5) ANYANG LEOPARD comes out of the same race as Utge Haejulge when finishing second. The four-year-old filly will carry just 51kg. (7) DRAGON BOAT was slightly disappointing last time out but can bounce back to a top four finish.

Selections (10) Geom Hyang (8) Utge Haejulge (5) Anyang Leopard (7) Dragon Boat

Race 5: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

We found the form in the fifth harder to assess than a Mongolian camel race. (1) CHEONJI POKPUNG looks a main chance with Moon Se-Young being legged aboard. The three-year-old has just two top three finishes from eight starts but that form reads well in this race. (3) RECENT DREAM finished midfield last time out over the 1000m when hitting the line fairly. She will appreciate the step up to the 1300m with a bit more experience on her side. (6) HYEONGMA PUBU is second up after finishing well back last time out. Expect improvement with the run under her belt. (8) GAGANA is another that that may improve in a rather uninspiring race.

Selections (1) Cheonji Pokpung (3) Recent Dream (6) Hyeongma Pubu (8) Gagana
Next Best 4, 5

Race 6: Class 5 (1700M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million

The sixth on the card has a field of ten and for the first time today, we’re going over the two turns. (6) SLING STONE looks one of the main chances engaged in a wide-open affair. He has been consistent in his seven starts to date and looks one that will appreciate the step up to the 1700m after hitting the line strong last time out. Look for Moon Se-Young to position the Raconteur three-year-old closer to the speed in this assignment. (4) RAON KHAN was a strong three length winner last time out over the 1200m. This is a significant step up but the son of Officer settled nicely last time out and should be considered an each-way chance. (5) ROYAL TANK is another that showed a reasonable turn of foot last time out when coming from last on the turn to finish fourth behind Stride Up. (7) SEUNGRI LIKE has finished midfield at his two tries in Class 5 company. He is another that can improve stepping up to the 1700m.

Selections (6) Sling Stone (4) Raon Khan (5) Royal Tank (7) Seungri Like
Next Best 4, 2

Race 7: Class 4 (1700M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Twelve runners will take to the track in the seventh where eight of them have been internationally bred. (6) DOLGYEOK APEURO has had just the three starts but has improved each time she is sent around. She sat worse than midfield last time out before lengthening impressively to finish second behind Geuma Wholesome. (1) FIGHT TODAY is another maiden who has placed on three occasions from just four starts. The three-year-old came from well back last time out to finish third. That was his first attempt over the 1700m and we know she can run it out strong. (10) SUN START should be considered a winning chance in this event. The four-year-old has been competitive in the company for quite some time and has placed on several occasions over this distance. (3) CUPID DATE is another that rarely runs a bad race and can figure in wide open affair.

Selections (6) Dolgyeok Apeuro (1) Fight Today (10) Sun Start (3) Cupid Date
Next Best 8, 11

Race 8: Class 4 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

A handy bunch of Korean-bred gallopers will go around in the eighth. Moon Se-Young appears to have another good chance in this race in the form of (4) DELTA BROTHER. The three-year-old drops back to the 1300m with four weeks between runs. He will only carry 52.5kg and is will sit handy from barrier four. (5) HANEULEUL DALRIDA will be looking to bounce back after being dealt a blow at the start last time out. The Colors Flying gelding appears to have ability and should not be excluded. (9) GANGHWA CHONGGAK has had three starts in Class 4 company and placed in all of them. He is considered a winning chance in a wide open field. (1) HAPPIEST continues to earn for his connections. The six-year-old rarely wins but should get every chance from the inside gate.

Race 9: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

There appears to be value on offer in the ninth as well where a field of eleven will line up to go over the 1200m. (9) SATO ROYAL ran on well last time out when third behind Vicar Bracing. The three-year-old has won two from nine and looks suited in this with just the 51kg on her back. (11) SWEETLY HUMOR finished third behind the handy Gaenari Song last time out. She may be forced to settle further back thant what Kim Dong-Soo would like but should be kept safe in your selections. (4) YEONGWONHAN SUNGAN won last start when resuming. The five-year-old sat on speed on that occasion and should be able to do so once again. (10) JAELONGI comes out of a good form race when third behind Malakas. Expect Lee Chul-Kyung to smoke the pipe and hit the line strong. (6) SOMETHING NOBODYNO has a win and three runner-up finishes from five starts so far. He ran 4th on his first try at this class last start and is set to be well-backed here too.

The tenth on the card appears to have a severe lack of speed engaged. (3) VICAR BRACING looks like he can continue on his winning ways. Moon Se-Young will be legged back aboard after missing his last win due to suspension. The Vicar four-year-old has shown he can sustain a long run to find the line strong and should take some beating here. (5) DAEGUNUI GIL was disappointing last time out and connections will be looking for him to bounce back with four weeks between runs. He looks the likely pacemaker suggesting Antonio Davielson will be looking to dictate the affair. (9) ECHO GOLD was a last start winner in this grade. He broke maiden status on that occasion and still gets in with a very reasonable weight. (1) CAT’S MIRACLE is one that can improve and place at big odds.

Punters should get excited about the last on the card with some top level types lining up in Class One company. (10) GLOBAL CAPTAIN has reached big heights after just six starts. The U.S import has won four from six and placed on both other occasions including a third in the Busan Ilbo in Open Class company. He is looking for his first win in this company and is a big chance of obtaining it with just 52kg on his back. (1) MASK can never be discounted. We haven’t seen him since March when second to Silver Wolf in the Chairman’s Cup. The run prior he won the Segye Ilbo at Listed (Korean) level. He carries top weight but he is a gutsy type. (3) GLOBAL BANK is another handy type for the Jang Jae Hyeung ownership. He comes into the race coming off a last start third to Sanggam Mama over 1400m in similar company. He possesses early speed so is likely to lead from the draw. (7) DIA SOCKS resumed last start when finishing fourth behind Dokdo Jigi. He oozes ability and should have taken improvement from his first run back.

Saturday sees 10 races at Seoul with the first summer schedule of the year in the capital. The 1st race is at 14:30 and the last at 21:00:

Twilight at Seoul

Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

A modest maiden to begin with. A couple have shown promise so far and (6) SINBU has as good a chance as any of making his breakthrough. He has disappointed punters before but if he can get to the lead, this could be his day. (4) NEOSEONG BYOKROK comes in off two 3rd places and a 4th from his latest three outings and he too should be there or thereabout. An apprentice jockey takes off some weight today and that could make the difference. (11) RAON JOY was a much improved 3rd last start and can build on that despite today’s draw not being ideal. (10) RED SUN is a half-brother to the very good Royal Ruby and didn’t do too much wrong on debut over 1200M a month ago. (8) STUNNING AGAIN looks best of the rest.

Selections (4) Neoseong Byokrok (6) Sinbu (10) Red Sun (11) Raon Joy
Next Best 8, 2
Fast Start 1, 5, 6, 10

Race 2: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

Another maiden with not a whole lot of depth. (4) VALLEY QUEEN was away well last time and while she ended up in 3rd place, showed enough to suggest she has a win in her. She’s well drawn to lead again and if she does, she can go all the way this time. (9) SILVER DRAGON reacted badly to a bump coming out of the gate on debut back at the end of April. Top jockey Kim Yong-geun stays aboard for her return and improvement looks possible today. (3) KOREA DAEJANGBU has been knocking on the door of the places across six attempts so far. He was slow away last start so if he fixes that he should be looking at a best finish to date today. (12) KINGLY struggled over 1200M last start but could be better back at the minimum today. (2) JEONGDONG SARANG looks best of the rest.

Selections (4) Valley Queen (9) Silver Dragon (3) Korea Daejangbu (12) Kingly
Next Best 2, 6

Race 3: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

A small field of maidens tackling the 1300M. It’s been a challenging couple of months for Simon Foster but a winner last week suggests some light at the end of the tunnel and (5) COILRO can make it a bit brighter with victory here. He got a heavy bump at the start last time when he finished 4th, but with a clean start today and with Alan Munro piloting, he has a big chance. The main danger is (2) COMPLETE MOTION. He was 3rd – albeit well beaten by a very good winner who’s already gone on to score at a higher level – last start at this distance and can build on that here. (8) TOUR DIA improved to a career-best 3rd last start and can continue to progress here under an in-form apprentice jockey. (6) DAEGIRI, up in trip for the first time, looks best of the rest.

Selections (5) Coilro (2) Complete Motion (8) Tour Dia (6) Daegiri

Race 4: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

(2) FLYING BULLET made all to comfortably get her maiden win over this distance last start. She’s up in class today but well drawn to get to the front early once more and under a very light weight, has strong claims to repeat. (6) CRAZY Q was a more surprising maiden winner on her latest outing and perhaps has a bit more to find but can still be competitive. (1) BANJIUI HAMSEONG had a poor day at the office last start but was in decent form prior to that and is worth another go today. (7) NAEGA KKEUTPANWANG and (3) HUIMANG STAR came home 3rd and 4th respectively with just half a length between them when they raced each other at class and distance on June 8th and both should be aiming for the places here. (5) WINT SEVEN ran a promising 5th last time out at 1200M, with the margins narrow. He ran on strongly and the extra half furlong today can be in his favour.

Selections (2) Flying Bullet (3) Huimang Star (1) Banjiui Hamseong (5) Wint Seven

Race 5: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

(8) ROLLER BLADE won the first juvenile race of the year three weeks ago in style. For his second assignment, he is up in class, distance and is taking on older horses already. But the manner of his victory suggest he will be able to take all three in his stride and win again against a less than intimidating set of rivals. (7) PRIME QUEEN only managed 7th on her first try at class and distance on June 2nd but the margins weren’t huge and she can get closer today. (1) THANK YOU MOTHER should be on pace from the inside gate and can go close. (6) KAHINAH and (9) DURI are others in the placing hunt.

Selections (8) Roller Blade (7) Prime Queen (9) Duri (6) Kahinah
Next Best 1, 3

Race 6: Class 4 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(2) DOKDO YA came up short in 2nd when sent up to 1700M for his first try at this class at the end of May. He steps back in trip today and although he’s carrying more weight, looks hard to beat. (1) CHODONG BOBAE has moved rapidly up the classes with a pair of wins in April and June. She stretches out to 1300M for the first time but there’s nothing in her running style to suggest it won’t suit and she can go well again here. (9) MONEY ZIF comes in off the back of two creditable performances at this level and has placing claims here while (6) ROYALPRINCE and (8) GEUP HAENG MA are others who can be considered for the minor money.

Selections (2) Dokdo Ya (1) Chodong Bobae (9) Money Zif (6) Royal Prince

Race 7: Class 4 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

(11) TOP BRAIN had come consistently close before finally getting his maiden win at this distance on May 18th. He only carries an additional 2kg today and even gets another crack at the same class so he has every chance of following up. (7) MOONHAK ARCH was beaten nine-lengths by an excellent winner last start but recorded his best finish to date in the process. He can get closer today. (8) NASCAUI BYEOL is better than his latest two outings suggest and could can improve here while (5) QUANTUM JUMP is dropped back in trip and should be more comfortable today. There is one solitary debut-maker Graydar colt (4) INCHEON CAPTAIN trialed up in a decent time alongside experienced racehorses in May and in such company must be given a chance of picking up a debut cheque.

Selections (11) Top Brain (7) Moonhak Arch (5) Quantum Jump (4) Incheon Captain
Next Best 8, 9

Race 8: Class 4 (1000M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(4) K.N ACE has a 3rd and a 2nd from her latest two, both times beaten by pretty useful types and while she carries more today than she has done in any of her previous efforts, she looks nicely in for a maiden score. (6) GEUMSEONG YEOWANG achieved precisely that on what was her twelfth attempt three weeks ago. This is stiffer but a repeat isn’t impossible. (3) FASHION PLAYER and (5) MY SISTER NINA were both slightly disappointing last start but both are down in trip today and can improve. (1) ECHO FIRST ON returns to action for the first time since January and looked pleasingly sharp in a trial in early June.

Selections (4) K.N Ace (6) Geumseong Yeowang (1) Echo First On (5) My Sister Nina
Next Best 3, 9

Race 9: Class 3 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

Really good race this. (5) RED BLADE took a while to figure things out but he’s sped up the classes with two runner-up finishes followed by two wins in his most recent four starts. (6) GLOBAL QUEEN has led almost every race she’s been in and looks sure to do the same here form a perfect draw. She’s won at class and distance but one or two will probably get by her today. In addition to Red Blade, one of those could be (1) HYEONMU, surprisingly beaten by (2) KWAEHAN YEBONGSAN last start. That latter horse must be respected too but it’s going to be much harder for her to lead all the way today. (4) GYORYONG UNU is up in class after his third win in eight starts. He has loads of talent with the only question marks being that all of his wins so far have been at 1000M and that he races for the first time since late March. Under a nice light weight, the up in class (8) NIMUI HYANGGI is the wildcard.

Selections (5) Red Blade (6) Global Queen (4) Gyoryong Unu (1) Hyeonmu
Next Best 8, 3
Fast Start 2, 6, 8, 11

Race 10: Class 3 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(8) MUNHAK ARIARI produced a gutsy performance to win by a neck at class and distance on June 1st. He carries an additional 3.5kg here in similar strength company but he looks to still have more improvement in him and he can win again. (6) PUREUN MAE ran 4th in that race, less than two-lengths behind the winner and can be a threat again here, likely coming from off the pace. (4) SOL PARANG ran 2nd to a somewhat surprising winner at this distance on June 9th. An apprentice takes a bit more weight off today and another place finish can be her goal. (2) EONEU MEOTJIN NAL and (5) FLYING BOSS both come in off the back of encouraging runs and should be involved.

The summer season gets underway at Busan today with 9 races from 14:30 to 21:00. Here are the previews:

Busan Nights

Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Eight previously unraced juveniles make their racecourse debuts here. Catching the eye in the pedigree stakes is (7) TOP DAY. He’s the second foal out of 2013 Korean Derby winning filly Speedy First to make the track and the other one, Friday, is a winner of three from seven. Top Day trialed the fastest of these, albeit on a muddy track and is with top trainer Kim Young-kwan, so all signs point to him being a strong favourite. (4) YEONGSEONG BRAVO offered some hints of ability when further back in the same trial on June 8th and looks one of the most likely to challenge here. (5) MARK ONE and (8) YEONGWON DYNAMO are others who showed promise in their respective heats and could go well.

Selections (7) Top Day (5) Mark One (8) Yeongwon Dynamo (4) Yeongseong Bravo
Next Best 3, 1
Fast Start 1, 7, 8

Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

(5) HIDDEN BOY has made steady progress across five starts so far, culminating in 2nd place over this distance on June 7th with a couple of his rivals here back down the track behind him. Lim Sung-sil partners him for the third time and today could be breakthrough day. (6) GRAND JILJU was sent up to a mile in late May and struggled to the extent that he was forced back to trial. He looked sharp when winning his heat in mid-June and back at 1300M today, he should be a different prospect. (4) WILD GUY improved considerably last start and can continue to make progress today. (3) ACRA and (9) BORYEONG HWANHO, the latter possibly appreciating the step up in trip, others to look out for.

Selections (5) Hidden Boy (6) Grand Jilju (3) Acra (4) Wild Guy
Next Best 9, 11
Fast Start 4, 6, 11

Race 3: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

(4) STOLEN BEAUTY ran 3rd ahead of a couple of these over 1000M on June 14th. Bart Rice’s filly has looked to have been figuring things out in her last couple of starts and she steps up in distance for the first time today with a good chance of going very close, likely looking to lead all the way. (8) ZET KING was a slightly disappointing 4th when favourite over this distance three weeks ago. He previously has a 2nd place at this trip, albeit in muddy conditions, and can be given another chance on him here – Lee Hyo-sik, who rode him in his best finish to date, returns to the ride. (7) WONDERFUL SUPAH has shown some aptitude for this trip and can be in the palcing hunt while (10) RINGING FLYING has come home in 4th place in four of her last five outings – she could very well finish in the same position today.

Selections (4) Stolen Beauty (8) Zet King (7) Wonderful Supah (10) Ringing Flying
Next Best 1, 5
Fast Start 4, 6, 10

Race 4: Class 6 (1600M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

(1) AMOR FATI ran on very nicely indeed on debut over 1300M. Well back early, he ended up in 2nd place and the step up to a mile today looks set to suit. That’s true too for (4) DONGBANG NARAE, who finished off well for 2nd last start over 1300M and also stretches out in trip today for the first time. Both those will look to come from off the pace while the likely early leader is (5) ETERNAL TRON, whose best performance so far by some margin came at this distance in early May. It’s hard to see anything challenging him for the early lead so the only question is how well he stays on. (2) SUPER GREAT also ran creditably on his first attempt at the mile last start and can build on the 5th place he managed. (8) SILVER BEST is another trying the distance for the first time and who could slide into some minor money.

Selections (1) Amor Fati (4) Dongbang Narae (5) Eternal Tron (2) Super Great
Next Best 8, 6
Fast Start 5

Race 5: Class 4 (1600M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

(10) TRUE VALOR won three in a row in fine fashion between March and May enabling him to take his chance in the Minister’s Cup, the final leg of the Triple Crown, at Seoul three weeks ago. He was 7th over the 2000M that day, but back in trip here and back in more amenable company, he’s the one to beat. The main danger is (2) POWER AMAZING. He is yet to win at this class but comes in following a decent 2nd over this distance last time out and is well drawn to get to his preferred position at the head of the pack. (3) WHITE POINT finished 2nd behind True Valor over 1800M on May 3rd at lengthy odds and while inconsistent, could be a threat again today. (5) VEGA KHAN and the up in class last start winner (7) TEXAS SIDAE are others in at least the placing hunt.

Selections (10) True Valor (2) Power Amazing (7) Texas Sidae (3) White Point
Next Best 5, 9
Fast Start 1, 2, 10

Race 6: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

(9) WONDERFUL TALE returned from seven months out to win well over 1000M on May 31st. She’s up in class and in distance here but neither should be too much of a concern and she can win again, likely trying to lead all the way. She’ll be joined on the early speed by (8) NEOLBEUN GOEUL, who similarly returned from a lengthy spell out to record his maiden win four weeks ago and comes up in both class and trip today with potential for more. (10) FINE TRUMPET was sent back to trial after being very reluctant to go to the barrier when a hot favourite over 1300M three weeks ago. He won the resulting heat and can be given another chance here. So too can (11) SUCHEOJAKJU, who was scarcely involved over 1000M two weeks ago but is better than that and can aim for the places here. (1) PERFECT ACE is another up in class following a maiden win on his latest start. Today’s assignment is considerably stiffer but he can be competitive.

Selections (9) Wonderful Tale (10) Fine Trumpet (8) Neolbeun Goeul (1) Perfect Ace
Next Best 11, 5
Fast Start 8, 9, 10

Race 7: Class 4 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(2) ULTRA POWER comes in having made all to win by five-lengths at this distance on June 2nd. He’s up in class today but is accordingly very nicely weighted and with Seo Seung-un aboard again, can win again. (5) CHEONNYEONUIJILJU ran 5th behind unexpected winner (9) MYEONGSIN POWER on June 2nd. Thomas Gillespie’s colt is yet to win in nine attempts but has run 2nd on no fewer than five occasions and should be in at least the placing hunt again. (4) CEEYOUDOWNTHETRACK began his career very promisingly and while he seemed to have a bit of a wobble in March and April, he showed signs of returning to form with a 4th place last start and should figure here. (7) SUPER GOLD made a promising return from a lengthy absence at the end of May and is another who can go close. There is one debut-maker and with (1) SYDNEY MANGCHI being trained by Kim Young-kwan and having done nothing wrong in his trial, he has every chance of going well first-up. Watch the market for additional clues about him.

Selections (2) Ultra Power (4) Ceeyoudownthetrack (5) Cheonnyeonuijilju (1) Sydney Mangchi
Next Best 7, 9
Fast Start 2, 5, 8

Race 8: Class 3 (1800M) Allowance / KRW 75 Million

(3) TOHAM ACE comes in here having won his latest three in an extremely pleasing manner. That’s sent him up to class 3 for the first time here and he’s also asked to stretch out to the 1800M for the first time. Both should be within his capability though and he looks the one to beat. It took (6) FIRST VICTORY a little while to figure things out but he’s won three of his seven to make it up to this class today. Crucially, he has experience of winning at this distance too and he’s a danger here. (1) FRIDAY has just gone off the boil a little in his latest two but returns after six weeks off and can be given another chance. (5) ALPHA RUNNER and (8) STORM GOLD are others whose respective latest appearances don’t reflect their true ability and they may go better here.

Selections (3) Toham Ace (6) First Victory (1) Friday (8) Storm Gold
Next Best 5, 4
Fast Start 1, 3, 5, 8

Race 9: Class 2 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million

(10) A PURE GOOD MAN beat four of these on his way to a two-length win over 1400M on May 19th. He carries an additional 3.5kg today but he’s won over this distance under similar in the past and he looks the one to beat again. (1) YES PERFECT is a winner of three from seven so far and comes on off a close 3rd place, less than a length behind the winner, in a similar race to this on June 9th. He was on pace for much of that race and should be again here with solid claims of going close. (2) CHERRY VANQUISH was an also-ran in the Ttukseom Cup over 1400M at Seoul last month but was a good class 3 winner prior to that. She tries the mile for the first time and is under a nice light weight. (12) MAKING SEUNGNI and (5) THUNDER FLY finished 4th and 5th behind A Pure Good Man last time out with just a nose separating them. Both should be competing for the places today.

Selections (10) A Pure Good Man (2) Cherry Vanquish (1) Yes Perfect (5) Thunder Fly

The 2019 Summer Racing program begins this weekend with Friday and Saturday cards set to begin mid afternoon and end at 9pm. Sunday racing will continue to follow its usual program.

Floodlight racing returns this weekend

During July and August the racing schedule will typically be as follows:

Friday

Busan: 9 races from 14:30 to 21:00
Jeju: 9 races from 14:55 to 20:45

Saturday

Seoul: 10 races from 14:50 to 21:00
Jeju: 8 races from 14:00 to 17:45

Sunday

Seoul: 11 races from 10:45 to 18:00
Busan: 6 races from 12:40 to 17:05

There are exceptions though as during this period, each track will take one weekend off with the other two tracks picking up the slack with additional races. Jeju will be off on the final weekend of July meaning that on Friday July 26th, there will be a 14-race card at Busan and on Saturday July 27th, a 15-race card at Seoul.

Seoul will take the first weekend in August off and Busan the 2nd week meaning that on Friday 2nd and Friday 9th August, there will be no thoroughbred racing in Korea as Jeju will be the only track in operation.

Dolkong returned in sensational style last Sunday, storming home late to win the Busan Mayor’s Cup (KOR G2), his first race back in Korea since his Dubai World Cup Carnival heroics earlier this year.

[ENG] 2019 Busan Mayor's Cup (GII) - YouTube

The five-year-old only returned to full training earlier this month but having looked well when winning a trial in Seoul last week, Dolkong was able to travel to Busan to take his chance in the race that’s often referred to as the “Summer Grand Prix”

And take his chance he did, as Dolkong, sent off as second-favourite, produced a final furlong burst to deny YTN Cup winner Moonhak Chief another big race win.

Pre-race favourite was Cheongdam Dokki, so disappointing in the YTN last month, blew his chances at the start, stumbling and almost falling as he exited the gate – he would recover but was never a factor.

It was left to World Day to set the early pace and the four-year-old led the field into the home straight.

Once World Day was headed by stablemate New Legend, with Moonhak Chief in close attendance before Dolkong showed the acceleration that saw him win the Listed Curlin Handicap at Meydan and passed them all to win with just under a length in hand.

It was Dolkong’s first start for trainer Bae Dae-Sun and he was partnered for the first time by Johan Victoire, the French jockey scoring his biggest success in Korean racing to date.

Next assignment for Dolkong is expected to be the International G3 Korea Cup at Seoul on Sunday September 8.

Dolkong is back and Korea’s Dubai World Cup Carnival is straight back in the deep-end as he faces a host of the nation’s top horses in the Busan Mayor’s Cup on Sunday afternoon. There are 6 races at Busan from 12:40 to 17:10 while in Seoul there are 11 from 10:45 to 18:00.

Dolkong (Pic: Ross Holburt/KRA)

Dolkong will have thirteen for company in the race which is often described as the “Summer Grand Prix”. They include last year’s winner Cheongdam Dokki, who comes in having raced surprisingly flat in the YTN Cup last month. That race was won by Moonhak Chief, the up and coming four-year-old, in a dominant performance that may well earn him favourite status here. Also going is New Legend and the ever-reliable Shamrocker.

Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

A field of twelve line up over the short course in the first including five debutants with trial form to dissect. (12) NONGBUI SUCHEAHWA handed in one of the better trial performances over the 1000m. The filly bounced out of barrier eight and sat three wide before going down a head. She ran 1.02.2 when ridden hands and heels in sloppy conditions. (8) KOOKA CAT is having her third start and drops back to the 1000m after failing to run a strong six furlongs. His debut run over the 1000m was reasonable and this looks a weaker assignment. (5) DASI DUSON finished second in her qualifying trial. She ran a slow time albeit on a dry track when going down a nose. She had more up her sleeve and can provide a forward showing. (7) GOLD HERO looks the best of the rest in an inexperienced field.

Selections (12) Nongbui Sucheahwa (8) Kooka Cat (5) Dasi Duson (7) Gold Hero
Next Best 10, 6

Seoul Race 2: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

Not too often we find a Class 5 event as competitive as this event where a case can be made for more than half of the field. (9) RUNNING BOX ran the arms off the clock at her second start when running 59.2 for the 1000m. She is having just her third start and the speedy type finished second over the 1300m at her first start suggesting the 1200m should be ideal. (5) BIG PRO is another that possesses early speed. He looks well weighted in this and from gate five expect the colt to work forward. (4) GENERAL ROSE is yet to finish worse than fourth from four career starts. The consistent type will settle in the leading division and is an each-way chance. (10) SIMON QUEEN broke through at odds last time out when sitting on speed for Moon Se-Young. Kim Hyo-Jung takes over today as the filly has her first run in Class 5 company.

Selections (9) Running Box (5) Big Pro (4) General Rose (10) Simon Queen
Next Best 3, 7

Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

Plenty of chances line up in the thirds where a field of twelve will go over the 1300m. (4) JANGGUNUI SIDAE ran on strongly last time out when coming from the tail over 1300m. The in-form Lim Gi-Won will have his first ride on the filly who may be able to settle closer with a better draw today. (5) KING OF EAGLE went over the 1700m last time out when feeling the pinch after trying to lead throughout. The three-year-old ran some fair performances over 1300m prior to last start and can figure in this event. (6) NAE GIRUI BIT has placed at his past two runs over the 1300m. The chestnut has to carry 56kg but his consistency should get him a long way in this type of race. (1) GEUMSUNI STAR is another that’ drops back from the 1700m after failing to run on. The Menifee colt placed behind Set The Pace two starts back over the 1300m.

Selections (4) Janggunui Sidae (5) King Of Eagle (6) Nae Girui Bit (10) Geumsuni Star

Seoul Race 4: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

Another field of twelve Class 6 gallopers will go over the 1300m in the fourth on the card. Once again it appears a rather open event with (3) FAMILY PARK looking one of the main chances. The filly is having just her third start coming off a much improved third behind Hwanggeum Doyaji last time out. Alan Munro is back in action this week and will ride her again after he piloted her last start. (2) TO THE VICTORY has placed on two occasions from seven career starts. The Raconteur filly sat third in the run last time out when having to come across from a wide draw. She has finished in the top four her past two starts and with the right run can figure. (4) YAHO M J CAT ran on fairly last time out to pick up a cheque. The Chapel Royal filly may appreciate stepping back up to the 1300m with more maturity on her side. (1) MANSEOK JIGI looks the best of the rest in a race where there could be some large place dividends.

Selections (3) Family Park (2) To The Victory (4) Yaho M J Cat (1) Manseok Jigi
Next Best 11, 12

Seoul Race 5: Class 4 (1700M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

A compact field of eight line up in the fifth where they will go over two turns. Last start runner-up (6) SUPER DOKKI looks hard to beat after showing a brilliant turn of foot in similar company last time out. The Animal Kingdom gelding finished behind Uri who looks a nice type going forward. (1) DAEGUN ILGAL resumes from a spell and has placed on three occasions from five career starts. The US import has had a trial coming into this preparation suggesting he will be fit enough. The barrier is a slight concern as he has minimal early speed suggesting he could get shuffled back on the fence. (4) MIGHTY WING ran a better race last time out for the Italian jockey Manuel Porcu. The colt sat on speed before going down a narrow margin behind Fast Fashion. (8) UP LIGHT ran on strongly last time out when the race was all over. Expect him to drop out early once again.

Selections (6) Super Dokki (1) Daegun Ilgal (4) Mighty Wing (8) Up Light

Busan Race 2: Class 5 (1600M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million

(5) MAGIC FLYING has raced creditably in four goes at this class since getting his maiden win in February, including to 3rd place to Rock Choice, who won the Minister’s Cup two weeks ago and looks to have a real chance here. (7) GRAND YEONGUNG and (10) EL DRAGON are both up in class having registered maiden wins on their respective latest outings. Both should be competitive at this class with Grand Yeongung perhaps having scope for more rapid improvement at this stage but he is untried at the distance. (3) BUSAN BOLT and (9) EOMJI CHEOK are others with placing chances.

Selections (7) Grand Yeongung (5) Magic Flying (10) El Dragon (9) Eomji Cheok
Next Best 3, 2
Fast Start 6, 7, 8

Seoul Race 6: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

A lack of speed is engaged in the fifth and the beneficiary appears to be (9) STRONG VULTURE. Alan Munro will have his first ride on the three-year-old who comes off a solid victory in good time. He has been ultra-consistent finishing in the top four on five occasions from six starts. (5) NEUL SACHAN finished just behind the place-getters at her most recent start in what was one of the stronger Class 5 form lines in this race. Lim Gi Won has been riding well and he will pilot the four-year-old from barrier five. (7) SERA YEOJE has placed at her past two starts over the 1300m. Her most recent effort she ran on strong to finish second behind Prima Nike. (4) INDIAN ECO is capable of running a place in this company with a good draw.

Selections (9) Strong Vulture (5) Neul Sachan (7) Sera Yeoje (4) Indian Eco
Next Best 10, 1
Fast Start 1, 4, 9

Busan Race 3: Class 4 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(8) SEOBU CAT has two wins and three runner-up finishes from five outings to date. In the latest of those, he ran 2nd to the promising Kingston Harbor on what was first try at this class, coming from off the pace. He’s had a few weeks off since then and looks to have solid claims to return to winning ways here. (5) DOCTOR CHIC beat a couple of these on his way to his second consecutive runner-up finish on June 2nd. He led for much of the way around but had to settle for being second-best for the fifth time in his career – it could be a sixth today. (6) TIME SPEC showed a big uptick in form when running 2nd at class and distance three weeks ago in a fast, albeit wet-track assisted time, and can go well again. (7) KING LION returns for the first time since last November. He won two from seven prior to the layoff and looked well when trialing earlier this month and is the wildcard here. (1) MUJEOK VETERAN and (3) GIJEOGUI JEOKTOMA are best of the rest.

Selections (8) Seobu Cat (5) Doctor Chic (7) King Lion (6) Time Spec
Next Best 1, 3

Seoul Race 7: Class 5 (1700M) Allowance / KRW 40 Million

A field of ten will go over the 1700m in the seventh at Class 5 level. (2) INDIAN could be worth a look at likely generous odds coming off a good performance over the 1700m. He has been promoted to Class 5 company and will be benefited by the claim of Moon Sung-Hyeok. He looks one of only a few pacemakers in the race so he should get every chance from barrier two. (9) LAST JACKPOT ran on well from the tail last time out over the 1700m. Kim Ok Sung stays aboard for the five-year-old’s assignment. Expect him to be snagged back shortly after they jump. (8) NAMJJOK NARA placed last time out in similar company. Cho Han-Byeol has been aboard her past four starts with the most recent of them looking encouraging. (3) TANTAN WINNER is untried over a longer distance but should be kept safe as he consistently finishes in the top four.

Selections (2) Indian Boss (9) Last Jackpot (8) Namjjok Nara (3) Tantan Winner
Next Best 4, 5
Fast Start 2, 3, 4, 6

Busan Race 4: Class 3 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(10) SEONGSAN SIMON should have the beating of these. He came up short when favourite on his first try at this distance on May 26th, weakening a little last on but should have come on for that and this winner of four from seven can come out on top this time. (3) CHRISTIANO returned from a year out to run 7th over this distance on May 19th. She obviously needed that and should get closer today. (9) DOCTOR THUNDER is an intriguing one. She was well-backed in the KRA Cup Mile, the first leg of the Triple Crown, but didn’t look right at all and ended up last. She then took her chance in the Oaks a month ago and likewise did nothing. She’s back in trip and in much more amenable company today and could go better – take a good look at her in the parade ring and on the way to post if possible. Last start class and winner (4) YEONGGWANGUISINHWA and (6) SINHYEOKMYEONG are others in the hunt.

Selections (10) Seongsan Simon (9) Doctor Thunder (3) Christiano (4) Yeonggwanguisinhwa

Seoul Race 8: Class 4 (1000M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

A field of ten short course specialists will go over the 1000m in the eights at Class 4 level. (7) RAON STORM continues to impress early on in his career. The Hansen three-year-old is the likely pacemaker and looks well suited with 54kg. The drop back to the five furlongs will suit and Jo Jae-Ro knows the horse well. (4) CHOEGANG STAR is proven in this company and ran good time when winning last start. The 57kg looks the problem but he should get an ideal run from barrier four. David Breux has been aboard the Midshipman colt for all three of his wins. (3) MY HAWK drops back to the 1000m after finishing midfield over 1200m. He had the inside draw for his most recent run and led in the early part. He will be another that works forward early on in this race. (10) YEONGHWAS FLYING is two wins from two starts. She won by a clear three lengths last time out but this looks tougher. She has the outside draw and her competition is much tougher. She is an each-way chance in a good race.

Selections (7) Raon Storm (4) Choegang Star (3) My Hawk (10) Yeonghwas Flying

Busan Race 5: Class Open (1800M) Busan Mayor’s Cup (KOR G2) Weight for Age / KRW 600 Million

  1. NEW LEGEND – Won his first five races in Korea but has hit the buffers since reaching the elite level running 4th in both the Busan Ilbo over 1200M and YTN Cup at 2000M. Today’s distance may suit a little more but confidence in him has taken a hit. Still loads of ability and can’t be overlooked.
  1. DIFERENT DIMENSION – Two starts into a comeback following seven months out, he improved last start to 3rd over 1400M. Not quite as good as he used to be and he’ll be an outsider in this company.
  1. CHEONGDAM DOKKI – Looked to be back on his game when beating Moonhak Chief and Shamrocker by six-lengths in April’s Herald business but looked lethargic when comprehensively defeated when favourite in the YTN. That was a concerning run and the response has been to change the jockey but the talent is still there, he has drawn much better this time and at his best can win.
  1. CHAMP LINE – The seven-year-old enters in decent touch with a win and a pair of 4th places from his latest two efforts. Back to this trip for the first time since this race last year and this is likely to be a bit stiff.
  1. WILD THUNDER – Only two starts in 2019 so far and both are a concern as he’s only beaten one home. Stablemate of Cheonji Storm and very much the second string.
  1. WINNER RED – Struggled for form this year although he ran ok for 7th in the SBS Sports Sprint at Seoul at the start of this month. Always seems to run in the top races when handicaps might be preferable. He’ll be one of the longest shots on the board.
  1. DOLKONG – First start since the Dubai World Cup at the end of the March. He trialed satisfactorily last week but has only been back in training since the start of the month so this is a tough ask. Further is perhaps better but he’s undoubtedly the class of the field and he could win.
  1. MOONHAK CHIEF – Absolutely blew them away in the YTN Cup, leading gate to wire for a twelve-length victory. He might not have it all his own way this time, especially with the likes of Cheongdam Dokki having drawn better but he’s still got scope for improvement and is the one they need to beat.
  1. SHAMROCKER – He spent the early part of his career running 2nd to Clean Up Joy, the middle part 2nd to Cheongdam Dokki and in the YTN Cup he was 2nd to Moonhak Chief for the third time. Probably not got the capacity to win a race like this – something will always be quicker – but he’s super reliable and another place is a strong possibility.
  1. GREAT KING – Only beat one home in the YTN Cup and although he is better than that, his form leading up to that race was solid rather than spectacular. Big-race specialist jockey Lim Sung-sil takes the ride but it would take a big uptick in form for him to go close here.
  1. CHEONJI STORM – A brilliant 2nd in this race last year but he’s been unable to build on it since, despite a very creditable 6th in the Korea Cup. Races for the first time since March when he was well back behind Silver Wolf in the Owners’ Cup over 1200M. Goes best when ridden forward early but will have a hard time from this gate.
  1. JUMBO BLADE – Came from off the pace to run 3rd in the YTN Cup, prior to which he was a class 1 winner here over this distance. From the same ownership group as Cheongdam Dokki, he looks to have more improvement in him and could run into some money.
  1. BUHWARUI BANSEOK – Solid campaigner who has just tended to fall a little short in the best company. He was 9th in the YTN Cup and has plenty to make up here. From a wide draw likely to be ridden patiently and hope to mop some up late on.
  1. WORLD DAY – A winner of nine from eleven so far and two from three at class 1. Beaten by a couple of these over 2200M in February but today’s distance is more suitable. He’s a front-runner so the draw is a concern as is the weight in this type of company.

Seoul Race 9: Class 4 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

The ninth on the card has a field of twelve Korean-bred gallopers to line up over the 1300m. Lee Dong-Ha picks up a nice ride with Moon Se-Young riding in Busan, in the form of (4) CHOIN BOLT. The Menifee colt has won three from four with one of his strongest traits – his early speed. Expect Lee Dong-Ha to bustle him out early from barrier four. (2) TRI THUNDER has been racing well of late including a win over 1000m last time out. He’s up in class but has placed over the 1300m on numerous occasions so keep him safe in your selections. (7) CHEONHA HYEONGGUK ran on strongly last time out to finish second behind Red Blade in reasonable time for this grade. (11) WINNER SPIRIT will put himself into the race early from a wide draw. He needs to improve a few lengths but can place with the right run.

Busan Race 6: Class 1 (1800M) Handicap

(9) MORNING KOREA beat four of these at this class over 2000M on May 24th. He only carries an additional 2kg here and the drop back in trip is in his favour as well. He has every chance of winning again. (3) MAJOR ALPHA was 3rd in that race and has solid placing claims again while (10) ROYAL HEART was further back in 6th but can improve here. A bigger danger though is likely to be (1) HIDDDEN CHAMP. He only managed 6th last time out when beaten by, among others, (8) WORLD NUMBER ONE, but he has plenty of ability and should be in the frame here.

Seoul Race 10: Class 1 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 110 Million

A very handy bunch of galloper will take to the track in the tenth on the card. The well performed and ultra-consistent (13) TIZ PLAN has won three of his past five starts and has proven he is a genuine Class 1 galloper. The four-year-old went around in the Korean Group 3 YTN Cup last time when finishing an admirable sixth behind some of Koreas best gallopers. He’s weighted suitably..
