Don’t you just love getting ‘done’ those things which have been hanging around for a long time?  Ya know like, finally getting those pictures into photo albums.  Funny, I don’t think people do that anymore!  How’s about throwing out stacks of old magazines?  I’m not sure people buy many magazines anymore. Here’s one, cleaning out messy drawers and closets!  I’m referring to the things you need to get around to doing and just don’t want to do it.  The feeling of when you finally get the darn job done, it’s a great sense of accomplishment!

The accomplishment doesn’t have to be life changing, like obtaining a university degree.  It could simply be cleaning out a messy closet.  Whatever the accomplishment is, it’s worth the effort to get the great feeling.

On the last night of my course, after the last student has left the classroom, I sit there for about 10 minutes alone.  It’s done.  Ten weeks of lectures, lessons, planning, correcting, assignments, research, etc.  It’s all done. The students have left the classroom.  At this time, I sit and reflect on what has taken place.  I breathe and allow my mind to wonder and contemplate. I hope my students received the learning they wanted.  I question myself, did I do the best I can do?   Now, it’s time to pack up the final materials from the semester, close the lights and leave the classroom.  Sue… Elvis has left the building.

Shortly after leaving, my mind fills with joy.  A sudden sense of accomplishment comes over my body.  I did it!  Another course completed, another contract fulfilled.  I feel proud of myself and happy for my students.  We did it together!

Anyone can achieve a sense of accomplishment.  Simply set an obtainable goal for yourself and go for it.  Once you have completed it, you will have a sense of accomplishment.  It’s quite easy.

Here is a way to get started.  Simply, select something you have always wanted to do and go for it!  I’ve always wanted to learn how to line dance.  This summer I’m going to do it.  Firstly, I’m going to take line dancing lessons.  Then I am going to go to the many parks which offer free line dancing during the summer.  I’m sure by the end of the summer, I will have learned how to line dance. This activity will definitely give me a sense of accomplishment.  At first, I might look like an accomplished fool, but I’m ok with that!

I need to mention how good accomplishment feels.  It’s sort of like a pat on the back someone else gives you, but even better. This feeling comes from within you.  You did it!  It’s your rodeo!  You moved the mountain!  You did yourself good! Truly the only person you need to please is yourself and you did.  Bravo to you!

If you never setup obtainable goals, you might never obtain a sense of accomplishment.  Start with easy goals to obtain, and then move on to more challenging tasks.

Whatever goal you chose to obtain, the end result will usually be fulfilling and with a sense of accomplishment.

Now a dose of reality!  Sometimes you might set up a goal, accomplish it and realize what you did was really stupid.  You will still have a sense of accomplishment and maybe a dose of, “Gee that was pretty stupid!”  Be prepared for this to happen too!

Like the time I decided to plant a strawberry patch in the middle of my vegetable garden.  It was a great idea at the time.  June came around and my strawberries were in full bloom.  I was picking and eating them throughout the month.  Every squirrel in the neighborhood was chowing down on them too.  So much so, it was an open invitation for the squirrels to also eat my tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, beans, raspberries, and apples when they were ripe!  This was the worst crop I have ever (not) produced.  I had a failed sense of accomplishment.  I learned a very important lesson in growing fruits and vegetables.  I no longer grow strawberries, but at least I tried.

I look forward to learning how to line dance this summer.  To really get into the mood, I’m going to buy cowboy boots and a cowboy hat.  I know I can do it.  Once I get those line dancing routines down pat, I will be a Line Dancing Queen.  I will also have great a sense of accomplishment which will fill my “achy breaky heart!”  I can’t wait!  Wooo Hooo Little Doggy!

During the Sunday night performance at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Oprah called on teacher Valerie Kamel to come up on stage.  After a heart felt hug and words of wisdom shared by both, Oprah promised to visit Valerie and her students the next day.

“I wouldn’t want to disrupt students in exams,” Oprah said.

“It is a lesson that exams are not everything,” Valerie negotiated with the icon.

Oprah then stated that she would see the star struck Valerie the next day.

While everyone in the audience wished they were Valerie, one of the lessons of the night was that it took hard work, dedication and a belief in yourself to achieved success.

Valerie has quoted to her students at College Beaubois in Pierrefonds, lessons she has learned on Oprah.  Her students took to social media in hopes of getting Oprah to meet with their teacher.  It worked!!

Today will be a day never forgotten by the whole city!

ECO-GRAZING – THE SHEEP ARE BACK THIS SUMMER AT EDGEWATER PARK! Pointe Claire is happy to have to announce that  Edgewater Park, located along Lake Saint-Louis near Pointe-Claire Village, will once again play host to six sheep this summer, as part of an eco-grazing project.

From June 17 to July 14 and August 5 to 18, six sheep will be grazing the grass, contributing to maintaining the park in an entirely natural way. A shelter will be set up at the park, to accommodate the sheep, and a shepherd will watch over the flock.

“This fun, educational initiative, which brought the community together, is in line with the City’s environmental orientations,” specified the Mayor. “Last summer, citizens took high interest in the project, bringing them together and proving the importance of sustainable development within Pointe-Claire.”

A series of educational activities are planned during this period at Edgewater Park. Here is the schedule:

In case of rain, storms or heat waves, the sheep will be sheltered and activities will be cancelled.

You can buy feed for the sheep for $0.25.

“Whether on foot or by bike, all are invited to drop by Edgewater Park, to have a picnic by Lake Saint-Louis, watch the sheep and take part in the exciting activities being held,” said Mayor Belvedere in conclusion.

Starting Saturday June 22, the Société de transport de Laval (STL) will be in summer mode with new bus times and exclusive offers. Among the changes:

Better summer bus schedules

Buoyed by the sustained increase in ridership on the Laval network and the service improvements rolled out this year, the STL is continuing to push forward by also adding improvements to its summer service. This means riders will enjoy more frequent bus times compared to previous summer schedules, in the form of nearly 60 extra trips per day.

De la Concorde and Notre-Dame – Buses 26 and 42: Buses will pass every 20 minutes during the day, adding up to 30 more trips per day on these two routes compared to last summer. For Bus 26, which enjoys strong ridership, two trips have been added for each rush hour (morning and afternoon);

Le Corbusier – Buses 65 and 76: The buses will continue to pass at 30-minute intervals, as in spring. The two bus routes combined will translate into a bus every 15 minutes on this boulevard all summer;

Express Bus 942 connecting Saint-François and the Montmorency bus terminal: All trips will be maintained throughout summer, including the three trips added in spring.

Shared taxis

We introduced numerous trip improvements to routes T07, T11 and T14 for the purpose of fostering optimal transfers with regular bus routes.

Accessible service on 14 routes

Buses 360 and 902 are joining the 12 bus routes already providing accessible service for riders with reduced mobility. These routes strictly use buses equipped with access ramps for people in wheelchairs.

Fare changes

The new fares set by the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) come into effect July 1. Users can consult the Fares section of the STL website for complete details.

Students: July and August bundle for $66.50

Students 17 or under who buy a monthly pass for July can get one for August for a mere extra $9.50. The XTRA pass may be purchased between June 20 and July 19 at the Montmorency and Cartier bus terminal ticket outlets, as well as points of sale across Laval.

360 shuttle free 7 days a week in downtown area

Get around downtown Laval with the free 360 shuttle, at your service 7 days a week, all summer long. Departures every 20 minutes from the Montmorency bus terminal.

For bus times and route map: navette360.com

In summer, kids ride for free

Up to 5 children ages 11 or under can ride for free when accompanied by an adult with a valid STL fare. This offer applies every day, all summer throughout the entire network.

On smog days, take the bus for $1

Until Labour Day, each day Environment Canada issues a smog alert, regular bus service (including shared taxis) is only $1 the next day.

All of the above bus times and offers are valid until August 24, the date the fall schedule begins. Go to stl.laval.qc.ca for complete bus times.

Are you thinking about investing in your personal growth but are uncertain how to get started? Are you considering a life coach but don’t know what to expect? As this is my first post, I thought it would be beneficial to introduce what a life coach is and what it is we do.

  1. A life coach is an objective professional. Sure it’s great to have friends with whom to share but taking advice from family or friends is not always a good idea. Sometimes friends do not tell us the truth because they don’t want to hurt our feelings, risk losing our friendship or just don’t know what the best advice is to offer. When emotions get involved, we often make poor decisions.
  1. Certified coaches work in the present toward future objectives, whereas psychologists or psychotherapists deal with past issues and traumas. Unresolved traumas often stop us from getting what we want in life. A good coach knows how to help clients resolve past issues as they come up, as well as when to refer clients to a therapist if issues are too difficult to resolve.
  1. A life coach is a ‘life specialist’, an expert in helping you develop all areas of your business and personal life. People usually hire consultants to help with a specific problem and expect the consultant to have expertise in that particular area. Most consultants propose a solution and leave it to the client to put into practice. Coaching is effective because the coach remains with the client to help integrate the changes and to make sure the goal really happens.
  1. Coaches have the ability to see things from afar. Like a tennis pro watching your swing, we can point out what you can’t see – and what’s not working. There are all types of coaches and many coaches offer various services. I, for example, offer creative and sales coaching along with life coaching.
  1. A life coach is in partnership with the client. The added insight and support of a coach help many of today’s most successful executives and entrepreneurs take their lives and businesses to the next level. Most coaching clients are healthy, successful people, who might want to make a change and require the support of a personal coach to do so.
  1. Coaches can shed light on tough situations. We help people move forward, set personal and professional goals, help sharpen skills, motivate, increase self-awareness, and can be a sounding board for difficult decisions. If you have an idea to start a small business but don’t know how, if you feel there is a something missing or don’t know how to get to where you want to be, a coach will help break through limiting beliefs and challenge you to think bigger.
  1. Most coaches require regular schedules so that clients remain accountable. Life coaching is delivered one-on-way in person, by phone or online, and delivered in half hour to one and half hour sessions; typically weekly so that clients have time to integrate new ways of thinking while taking action toward their goals. Clients get more done than they would on their own. Like working out with a trainer at the gym, you work much harder than you would on your own.
  1. Experienced coaches know how to help set the right goals so that clients take bigger actions. You may start with the best intentions but then hit a snag, which can stop you completely or cause a long delay, whereas coaches can work through blocks quickly to help you achieve greater productivity with less effort and in less time.
  1. A well-trained coach tailors the approach to your needs and quickly learns what method and even which words will best motivate you. Life coaches use many of the same mantras as sports coaches. Such as ‘do your best’, ‘achieve more than you think you can’, ‘dedicate to a goal’ and ‘positivity’. Unlike sports coaches, however, most professional coaches are not in competition with each other, but instead, help you win in your own life.

Many are ready to do something meaningful but believe they must sacrifice their health, relationships and time, as they toil on their own to attain what they want. None of this is necessary. Although a coach is not a miracle worker, we do have a large toolbox to help your dreams become reality.

From June to August 2019, 56 students aged 17 to 30 will meet citizens on the Island of Montreal in 15 boroughs and 5 affiliated cities in regard to the protection of the environment. They will notably promote the urban forest and inform the citizens about the fight against the emerald ash borer. Furthermore, they will inform the citizens concerning the responsible management of residual materials, encourage efficient and responsible consumption of potable water and promote sustainable stormwater management.

In order to fulfill their mandates, patrollers will benefit from the support of the various éco-quartiers and affiliated cities. The Green Patrol, coordinated by the Regroupement des éco-quartiers (REQ) for this 15th edition, will have, through awareness, education and participation in activities and a host of local events, to accompany and promote citizen involvement in favor of the environment, in support of programs developed by boroughs, affiliated cities and the City of Montreal. For a fourth year, patrollers will have the chance to benefit from BIXI bicycles to get around the city, thanks to a partnership between BIXI Montreal and REQ.

Simon Octeau, Executive Director of the REQ, is delighted with the launch of this new patrol which, “through the privileged meeting on the streets with Montrealers, contributes significantly to the adoption of good practices on a daily basis.”

The deployment of the Green Patrol is made possible by Canada Summer Jobs, fifteen boroughs, five related cities and the City of Montreal.

BIXI Montreal

BIXI Montreal is a non-profit organization created by the City of Montreal to manage the bike sharing system in Montreal. The network includes 7,250 bicycles and 600 stations in Montreal, as well as in Longueuil and Westmount.

Regroupement des éco-quartiers

The REQ is a network of actors strongly involved throughout Montreal. The 18 éco-quartiers affiliated with the REQ are the instigators of many projects concerning sustainable development, citizen involvement and environmental education. Involved in projects ranging from composting to drinking water saving to urban agriculture and awareness of the agile ash tree, the eco-quartiers serve annually 90% of the Montreal population in 15 of the 19 boroughs or more than 1.5 million citizens. For those who take great pride in their appearance, they have a good idea as to what they can accomplish with quality self-tanning products. What they may not realize is what kind of an effect that sunless tanning could have on users from a mental aspect. When they do give this some thought, then they appreciate the value of these sunless products all the more.

What Do Self-Tanning Products Do for an Individual?

The common answer to this question is that these types of products enhance the appearance by:

  • Creating a darker colour to the skin that has a glow to it, making it look soft, supple, and appealing.
  • It can help to cover up minor flaws in the skin.
  • The beautiful overall even colour these products create compliment the colour of the attire that is worn.
  • It can make an individual who tends to have pale tired looking skin appear healthier.

Each of these attributes plays a very important role in the way a person feels. It comes down to the old cliché “When you look good then you feel good”.

The Importance of Feeling Good

There are a lot of components that go into making a person feel good, and their appearance is one of them. It can give them a mental boost, such as:

Changing a Negative with a Positive:

  • Making an individual feel good about themselves. A lot of people have insecurities about the way they look. Most people are their own worst critics. Most will always point out what they don’t like about their looks before they focus on what they do like. When they have a beautiful sunless looking tan, then this becomes a positive factor that makes them feel good about their entire body. If they happen to be a little overweight, for example, the stunning results of the sunless tan can overpower this negative. This is enough to boost their confidence.

From Sickly to Healthy Looking:

  • There are a lot of people who seem always to look tired or sickly. This can be because of their skin tones. Not much they can do to change this except relying on a sunless tan that is going to make some dramatic changes to the look of the skin. The right sunless products can transform that sallow looking skin into a look of even beautiful colouring that masks the original skin colour shades. The glow from the tan can reduce that tired look. These are two amazing transformations to the skin that can create a healthy natural look. For these individuals, they will often get compliments about how good they look. Yet, again, another confidence booster. Now that they look good, they tend to feel good, and this may show in their energy level on both a mental and physical level.

End of the “Plain Janes”

  • Some women feel like they are just “Plain Janes”. Meaning they don’t have any strong points about their looks. They just seem to blend in with everyone else. A stunning sunless tan can easily make them stand out in a crowd. For that person that has never felt special before they are now getting a chance to experience this.

All of these examples have a direct effect on the mental attitude that many people develop about themselves. It is most impressive that a simple product like a sunless tanning product could cause some mental transformations. However, with this comes a word of caution. These positive changes are only going to transpire if the sunless product works as efficiently as it should to bring about the desired results.

Choosing the Right Self-Tanner

If an individual is going to use a self-tanning product to enhance their looks, then they need to take the time to choose the right product. Each of these is designed to bring different results. Using the dull, tired skin as an example here is how an individual with this problem could choose the right self-tanner.

Self-tanners can be a solution for getting glowing skin. Taking a closer look at MineTan Caramel, this self-tanning foam indicates that although it is suitable for all skin tones, it is effective for those will pale or fair skin. Usually, this is the type of skin that the individual has who looks tired and sickly. So, the fact that MineTan self-tanner is appropriate for this makes it a good choice.

Then the second factor is that it creates a subtle change to the skin. This is ideal for the individual with the tired, sick looking skin because they don’t want a dramatic change all at once. They want this to take place over time, so it looks natural.

Individuals should identify how they want the sunless tanning products to enhance their skin. Then with this knowledge seek out those that are most applicable to this. By doing this and making sure that quality sunless products are chosen, and they are following the product directions, there will never be any disappointments.
