I’ve been looking forward to this wedding for a while now, firstly because when we met Lauren and her mum at The Bulls Head in Repton on a swelteringly hot day back in 2018 – they were both so lovely! But then we met Lauren and Danny for coffee a couple of months before the big day and saw how great they are together, we knew it was gonna be a top day. Plus the wedding was in The Riding School at Calke Abbey which Ben and I adore. But also they had been granted rare permission to get have their wedding ceremony in the tiny church on the estate too!

So as we waited at the church with the Danny and the guests, we could hear the roar of a V8 Mustang approach and we knew Lauren had arrived. She looked gorgeous in her Riki Dalal dress from the ladies at Lori G Bridal! It was a crazy hot day so we were all delighted to go into the cold church and take our seats for the wedding. The vicar was AMAZING – a weight lifting vicar, who was a total dude… not come across that before!! He was funny and engaging – wish he could do all our weddings!

After a little walk around the walled gardens with Lauren & Danny, we were all HOT , like seriously sweltering and in need of a cold beer! So, we headed back to The Riding School for drinks and mingling time. Lovely speeches and a BBQ type meal followed, then into the evening reception with a really great band called Stereo Soldiers.

It was a great day, we really enjoyed our time at this wedding and the day flew past so quickly!! Here are just a few of our favourites from the day while we work on your full gallery!!!

Our only rules are… You gotta hit “Full Screen” and you gotta turn it up LOUD. Enjoy xx

Gem + Jim at Shustoke Barns

Now for us, this was kind of a last minute booking. Most of our couples book 18 months to 2 years in advance, but Gem & Jim booked us in February for a July wedding. Happy Days!! But with Gem at the wheel, you would have never known she did it with only 4 months notice. She wrote us the nicest email to say ‘hello’ when she first enquired and from that moment, we were hooked! Is it possible to fall in love with a couple after just a few emails back and forth? Either way, we knew it was going to be a great day.

We caught up with Gem, her bridesmaids and her hilariously potty-mouthed mum (we love you Sadie!) at The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield – lots of champagne, hilarity and some stuff I just can’t repeat!! Honestly, I’ve learnt new phrases that I’ll never forget… made Ben blush!! How have we hung out with this many bridesmaids over the years and never heard the phrase, “Party-Tit”. Seriously. Hilarious. Anyway once everyone was ready, it was off to Shustoke Barn for the ceremony. There were some lovely readings and before you knew it – they were Mr & Mrs Mercurio!

Weddings are always full of lots of questions… Will Jim’s brother arrive in time for evening photos? Will we get eaten alive by the world’s population of ‘Jurassic Park’ style mosquitos while doing golden hour photos? What was best man Alex’s “butter” story all about and are we all now going to google “Last Tango in Paris” to find out more…? And is Alex possibly the funniest man we’ve met in ages? Well, it’s a pretty hard YES to all of those!!!

The weather was beautiful, so all the guests headed straight out into the courtyard for drinks and canapés and a few photos. We were keen to leave a lot of the photos till later when the sun had dropped a bit and the light had become softer, so the couple had plenty of time to mingle and enjoy their reception! After dinner, there were some great speeches, heartfelt and lovely from Jim’s dad and Jim. Followed by a very funny best man – we were both laughing out loud!! Such a comical guy!

So after dinner, Jim & Gem had lots more time with their guests. The guys playing many highly competitive and possibly the longest two I’ve ever seen of games of giant Jenga! Then time to cut the cake, toss the bouquet and an ‘all-in’ first dance!! As the sun started to set, we took a little walk up the driveway to make the most of the epic light. Unfortunately, we were also joined by the aforementioned mosquitos, so we didn’t hang around for too long! However, just long enough to witness the most beautiful sunset I’ve seen there at Shustoke. When that sun sets like that, we drop EVERYTHING and head towards it….no questions asked!!

Anyway, we had such a great time with Gem & Jim and totally feel like we’ve made a bunch of new friends  – thanks for such a great day!!

Here are a few of our favourites while we work on your full gallery – Turn it up LOUD, and enjoy! x

We had such a great day with Georgina & Ross! We joined Georgina at her parent’s house in Ockbrook, a lovely warm welcome from everyone. And Geoff from Our Wedding Videographers was there too getting a few establishing shots. Once lots of champagne had been popped and everyone was ready and looking GORGEOUS – the car arrived and it was time to head off to the church just down the road. The vicar was very friendly and there was a lovely singer too. After a great ceremony, the couple got truly covered in confetti and we all headed back to Donington Park Farmhouse for drinks in the unbelivable sunshine!!

We had a little walk in the sunshine with Georgina & Ross, but it was clearly going to be beautiful weather all day so we saved some of our photos for later when the sun was softer and more golden.  The wedding breakfast was followed by some great speeches and then everyone headed back into the sunshine for relaxing evening drinks while The Burgundys set up in the main barn ready for the first dance and a huge fall of balloons!!

Before we left we headed out with George & Ross into the soft evening sun to make the most of the venue and the weather.

We had a great time with them and all thier friends and family were lovely. Here’s just a few of our favourites from the day! Turn it up and enjoy!

We do love a Derbyshire wedding at home!! It’s such a personal day! And even better, this home in the tiny hamlet of Snelston is literally only 10 minutes from our home! Happy Days! Anna was getting ready at home with her bridesmaids and parents etc etc

Groom preparations

I headed off to see Matt and his groomsmen at Shiningford Manor, where they were all staying for the weekend. It’s a great spot overlooking Carsington Reservoir. All the family were there, Auntie Mary was ironing endless shirts and there was lots of food laid out – what a good morning! While Matt jumped in the shower I photographed a few of his details. It was soon time to leave and head over to the church!

The bridesmaids arrived first followed by Anna in the lovely little camper and everyone headed into the church for a great ceremony with the addition of a swallow which soared around the rafters while the couple got married! That’s a first for us! Anyway, soon Anna & Matt were married and they exited down the aisle and into the stunning summer sunshine and loads & loads of confetti!! We did a few quick family photos at the church and then back to the house and the marquee.

The drinks reception

Everything was already in place, loads of gorgeous flowers from Nadia Tullio. A lovely cake in the corner from Hannah at Bake. Tables all laid and beautiful thanks to Kemp&Kemp and Save The Date Stylists. All the guests enjoyed a wonderfully idyllic drinks reception relaxing in the sun, sitting on haybales, enjoying the canapés and admiring the truly special view.

The speeches were touching in places and hilarious in others, Matt’s best men (and cousins) had many stories and even called on the guests for more dirt including the time Matt spent 20 minutes in a deep freezer!!

Into the evening and the band were set up and ready to start! They were great so the dance floor was full. We had such a good day with Anna & Matt, everyone was great fun. Here’s a little Sneak Peek of our favourite images – TURN IT UP LOUD and enjoy!!!!
