“Tlingit horn spoon carving has been declared an endangered art form.  I’ve spent a lot of time studying horn spoons, especially during my Bill Holm Center Research grant thru the Burke museum.  The skill my ancestors had from forming the spoon, to the detail carving in the handles, it was nothing short of incredible sculpture.  I want to breathe life into carving these horn spoons, my heart is doing the traditional pieces. Pieces that can exist within our culture hundreds of years ago.  Gunalchéesh to the Burke museum for opportunity to carve and connect with museum guest ..read more

The Snowboarder’s Journal Issue 21.4 is now available in print and digital formats. It’s such an incredible honor to have an artist feature in the magazine. I’ve spent just about a year working on this interview. Quick story, I really wanted to shoot the snowboard photos in my hometown of Juneau, AK, specifically on “Tlingit Aani” (our land). I was teaching Tlingit formline at Sealaska Heritage Institute last April. I brought my snowboard gear with me to AK in hope to get to shoot photos for this interview. One afternoon a weather window opened, and there were blue skies in Juneau (rare). I ..read more
