Sandy and Tom Paint the Town Red
Traditions of Lebanon Blog

Christmas came early for a couple at Traditions of Lebanon when they found themselves the lucky recipients of a pair of tickets to see the Reds play the Orioles on Friday May 3rd. The tickets, in the diamond section at Great American Ballpark, were courtesy of Fox19 and could not have gone to a nicer couple.  It was serendipitous that the randomly selected couple just so happened to have a particular affinity for baseball. In fact, they went to a Reds’ game for their honeymoon (many years ago), so the Reds are near and dear to their hearts.  Sandy and Tom have lived at Tradition ..read more

In his study Aging and Alzheimer's Disease: Lessons From the Nun StudyDr. David A Snowdon, PhD. explores the longevity of Sister Mary and a group of 678 other sisters who participated in the Nun Study.  “Sister Mary, the gold standard for the Nun Study, was a remarkable woman who had high cognitive test scores before her death at 101 years of age. What is more remarkable is that she maintained this high status despite having abundant neurofibrillary tangles and senile plaques, the classic lesions of Alzheimer's disease. Findings from Sister Mary and all 678 participants in the N ..read more

Even though death is known as a natural part of life, it never feels natural and is often viewed as the opposite of life.  For those of us who have always had an older loved one in our lives and must move forward without them, losing these loved ones is often one of the most difficult challenges humans experience in their lifetime.  Many say, “they lived a very long life” and “they accomplished so much in their time on earth” when an older adult passes away.  Although these statements may be true, they often fall short in speaking of the incredible loss felt.  ..read more

As part of #OurCommitment to creating spaces with multiple generations, it’s important to us to provide resources for all the members of the family. Traditions reached out to licensed social worker and parent coach for decades, Jill Huynh, to guide adult children in how to talk about the illness of a grandparent or beloved elder with children.  When grandparents go through a significant illness, this is often the first time for a child/teen to have this life experience. The news can be challenging to share and possibly more difficult for kids/teens to receive and comprehend. A good f ..read more

Wendy Briggs, Director of Cognitive Services A question we often hear from adult children and their families as they struggle with the concept of moving a beloved senior into memory care is, “What do we tell grandma/grandpa/mom/dad about why we can’t take them back home?”  It’s a delicate topic that many families face as their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts/uncles, and family friends age. It is estimated that 70% of people over the age of 65 will require some sort of long-term care during the rest of their lifetime. On average, those seniors will require care for 3 ..read more
