I remember calling All Saints a couple of times that day and left a voicemail. But I didn’t get a callback. And so, on Sunday, I wore my color and rode the train to All Saints with my friend. For some strange reason, we missed our North Avenue stop and so we had to walk back to the church. Service had already started when we arrived, and to my utter horror, a woman was celebrating the Eucharist. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Yes - I had, at that time, heard of women clergy when I was in Ghana, but I had never seen one. Fortunately, the last pew was empty, so I sank into that pew and watched as ..read more

My Dearly Beloved: Greetings! It has been my greatest pleasure to serve as your pastor and friend. This September will mark my seventh year as the Rector of this beautiful and thriving parish. I give thanks to God for the opportunity to serve you. Not a single day goes by without a thought about you and the beautiful place where we all call our spiritual home and the best way in which to serve. It is no secret that to serve effectively, we need time to take time off from our busy schedules. God instituted the Sabbath for a reason. And in the gospels, Jesus often took time away from his fri ..read more

Education for Ministry is a unique four-year, small-group program based on study and practice in theological reflection, helping participants discover and nurture their call to Christian service where they live, work, and play. Our vows at baptism say that all baptized Christians are ministers. God calls us to be active participants in m ..read more

The drive that ended on May 19 brought in 33 one-pound bags of rice, 50 one-pound bags of dried beans, six cans of beans, three packages of pasta, five packages of seasoning, and 14 bags of Maseca instant corn masa flour. What a haul! We timed the drive to coincide with Pentecost Sunday, when Christ Church traditionally ..read more

Last Sunday was unique. It was fantastic. I was overjoyed with the festive spirit of celebration. Everyone was happy; from the youngest with their screams to the oldest with their laughter, there was not a single person that I saw who wasn’t excited to be at Christ Church that morning. Everyone was happy and festive. Because it was Pentecost Sunday, in fact, the Holy Spirit was alive at Christ Church. I cannot thank each of you enough for your kind words of encouragement and the blessings you showered on me - not that I deserve them, but you showered them on me anyway. Thank you for 25 amazin ..read more

Pentecost is the birthday of the Church, and for us at Christ Episcopal Church, it is an exceptionally marvelous day, one worthy of celebration. It’s time for our annual celebration of God’s universal love displayed through His diversity of many tongues and cultures, reflected in food and dress. Our annual Pentecost Day tradition continues this Sunday as we gather in the New Brick Sanctuary for only one service at 10:00 a.m. and then follow it up with a potluck lunch and fellowship. Pentecost is also an International Day for our parish family, so during this service we'll get to hear t ..read more
