It may be the end of summer but for Sabrina it will always be Summertime Love

Italian showgirl Sabrina Salerno had a huge hit all over Europe with her Single Boys (Summertime Love). The video is iconic and it was one of the last of the massive Italo Disco hits. Boys even made it to #3 on the U.K. pop charts and was more succesful than her third single in which she worked with Stock, Aitken & Waterman. In honor of finally getting over 1,000,000 clicks, 1983's Italian Hit Parade

Definitely not a typical post for me. This is a Bulgarian pressing of some of the biggest hits from 1983. Including the winning song from the festival of San Remo. It was a fantastic year for pop in Italy. The Nada record brings back a ton of memories! And the Synth Pop masterpiece Vacanze Romane by Matia Bazar may very well be the best Italian single ever, it's pure perfection. Check for the link in the messages section just below ..read more

Belgian Synth Wonders Telex

Telex were a Belgian band formed in 1978. They even participated in EuroVision one year. Their single Moscow Discow was a seminal synth disco hit. It was played in all the best clubs like The Paradise Garage and Studio 54. Seymour Stein ever the innovator picked it up For Sire records and that for sure was a big break for Telex. A few other cuts managed to get some attention but none as much as Moscow Discow. A clip of Heather Parisi the Italian American showgirl who was all over Italian t.v. in the late 70's and 80's and even had a few of her own hits has gone viral. She's dancing to the ..read more

Dedicated to KOTO an essential Italo Disco artist if there ever was one

Koto has left the stage. So I'm going to spoil you with more Koto then you ever thought existed. Koto was quite the special Italo Disco artist. In fact his crossover appeal was such that Japanese War Game was even a favorite at the legendary Paradise Garage. Koto was very experimental and prolific. He wasn't afraid to dip his hands into many pots. As you can see he even did plenty of covers. One thing I do know is that I appreciated him and I'll bet you did too! As per usual my download links are going to be in the messages section below. I no longer know how to keep my links live in my po ..read more

LIFE FORCE

Life Force with the vocals of Dotty Green had a few Hi Nrg releases in 1984 and 1985. Pretty frivolous and light and very much synonymous with the Hi Nrg sound that was so popular after the disco era.  Songs like this got a lot of play at Heaven in London and The Saint in New York City and Trocadero Transfer in San Francisco.   As A.I.D.S. decimated the community this sound pretty much went to the wayside.  House became the standard and more Euro Dance was being made which brought that lightweight dance sound into the late 80's and 90's.   At the time it wasn't my favori ..read more

Memories of Karen Finley and Mark Kamins

Mark Kamins was my biggest ally on the N.Y. club scene.  For us it was like love at first sight (not the sexual kind).  He instantly had me hanging out in the booths wherever he spun.  He always encouraged me with my looks and we adored each others energy. Project X magazine loved to trash people Mark Kamins spinning at Club Gold in Tokyo When Mark took me to Tokyo for the opening of Club Gold as a representative of New York Nightlife I was overjoyed.  But as you can see from the Project X magazine above there were haters. I totally associate Mark ..read more

GRACE JONES SIGNATURE SONG WAS NOT ORIGINALLY HERS

Refreshed link in comments sectionHere's another told post I'm brining back. The vocalist for La Vie En Rose was meant to be Teresa Wiater.  Produced, arranged and remixed by the mighty Tom Moulton in 1977 it has become one of the definitive disco re-make classics.  His muse Grace Jones knowing a good thing when she hears one convinced Tom to give it to her.  The rest made history as it crossed over to pop all over Europe and other parts of the world.  Teresa unfortunately fell into the depths of obscurity.  Although she managed to have one minor disco hi ..read more
