Coming Soon to UK Streaming Abusive parents, bullies, con artists, and creepy drunks might not seem like the most appropriate subjects for a slasher-comedy hybrid, but writer and director Ken’ichi Ugana gives it his best shot. To say the end results are uneven might be stating the obvious. This is a strange blend of plot clichés you’ve probably seen elsewhere, with added black comedy violence. At just under ninety minutes it doesn’t outstay its welcome, but then it doesn’t really ever explore any potential themes very deeply either. Of course eclectic genre mash-ups are also something you’ve s ..read more

ABIGAIL Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett Abigail is the latest film from Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, aka Radio Silence. Having done two Scream films, they return to what they did with Ready or Not: a self-aware slice of supernatural horror primarily set in a creepy old mansion. A rag-tag team of kidnappers has been tasked with subduing and abducting a young ballerina (the titular girl) and hiding her there for 24 hours until her wealthy dad pays for her release. Only they’ve got more than they bargained for with this kid – it turns out Abigail is a vampire, and ..read more

A House on the Bayou

A family on a make or break holiday retreat gets some unwelcome visitors in Blumhouse’s latest home invasion horror that offers up some ludicrous twists…. OK so I admit, I probably enjoyed A House on the Bayou a lot more than I should have. Writer/director Alex McAulay’s offering shares the same DNA among the likes of The Strangers and Funny Games and while it lacks the creative horror juices to match those offerings, it helps that some real left field twists among the same old plot, actually keeps you from being bored. At its heart, the film is all abo ..read more

Evil kids run amok in a horror that fails to reach its potential….. Judging by the title, some horror fans may be expecting its a sequel to the underrated 2008 British flick The Children, a horror that saw a group of children go on a murderous rampage in what was a delicious delight and a must-watch if you have never seen it. Unfortunately its not, as There is Something Wrong With The Children, goes down a different path, what with its bombastic music intro that at first makes you believe that you are about to watch a forgotten early noughties horror and when t ..read more

Stephen King’s classic story gets a prequel movie, that suggests the franchise, much like the dead on show….should have stayed buried….. Some horror movies, should never really become a franchise. When you have man in a William Shatner mask, killing babysitters, or a man in a Ski Mask, hunting down camp staff, then you have the blue-print for further movies, even though they may end up with ridiculous entries like a rapper shouting “Dangertainment” while demonstrating Kung Fu or the bogeyman getting a rebrand in deep space, causing chaos on a spaceship. The 1989 Stephen King movie adap ..read more

The Australian slasher from 2000 that die-hard genre fans will remember had Kylie Minogue in the Drew Barrymore role…. Much like Halloween before it, the success of SCREAM in 1996 caused a mini Slasher boom, not quite on the scale of the John Carpenter classic, but did cause a wave of imitations, all wanting a piece of the bloodiest pie that Ghostface himself started the moment he arrived in Woodsboro. For every fan favourite like Urban Legend, we had to endure the likes of The Clown at Midnight, that saw Christopher Plummer a ..read more
