On a weekend that gets celebrated as the “unofficial start of summer” and is known for backyard barbeques and parties in beach towns, we hope you took a moment to recognize what the holiday is for, and that you remembered and honored those in our military who gave all for our freedoms. Now, on to shop news. Do you have a Portarod Inshore Rod Holder for your truck?  Do you have more rods than it currently holds?  Now we have the add on Portarod Single Rod holder so you can add more rod holders to your Portarod.  We also have the Offshore single rod holders for the Portarod Offs ..read more

We posted our regularly scheduled fishing report yesterday evening, but there were still reports and pictures of fish floating in afterwards.  So much so we are doing another report for the pictures. For those who missed it, we now have a dedicated text message number you can send your catch pictures into.  Just text your photos to the number above.  Please include your name, what you caught the fish on (ie. what bait or what lure), the length of the fish (if you know it) and a general location (for example, surf or bay.  If you are too specific, we will obfuscate your loc ..read more

First, fishing news in the area. The 33rd Annual NJ Governor’s Surf Fishing Tournament will be held this Sunday, May 19th at Island Beach State Park.  We will be open and will be loaded with bait, assuming our bait boats can get out on the water (lets hope for some nice weather leading into the weekend).  Enjoy a great day of surf fishing with family and friends at the Governor’s Surf Fishing Tournament. Its purpose is to bring awareness of the importance of saltwater recreational fishing and marine resources in New Jersey to the Governor, State Legislators and New Jersey residents ..read more

First, shop news… We added some new products to the shop and website this week.  First on the docket, we now carry Magictail rods.  We have the Inshore Series and Wreck Series available.  You all know the quality that Magictail puts into their lures.  The same attention to quality has gone into the rods too.  The inshore series are perfect for stalking the back bays for bass and bluefish, or taking on a boat for just about anything you want to catch (including jigging for blackfish).  The wreck series will cover any of the monsters you want to pull off of a wreck ..read more

First, shop news.   We are excited about some new stickers we got into the shop.  Stickers?  Really?  Yeah, we know what you are thinking, but the Black Hole Holographic Stickers are some of the nicest stickers we have ever seen.  The detail of the art on the fish is awesome, and they are printed on a holographic foil, so they are eye catching.  They are a quality, heavy vinyl sticker that is waterproof.  While a little more expensive than most stickers, the quality of these stickers make them worth it.  Check them out, and if you are within driving dist ..read more

First, shop news.  It’s a short one.   For the tog anglers, we have some shears for you.  FJ Neil Dolphin Handi-Shears have stainless blades to trim the legs and a shell cracker in the handle, all without breaking the bank.  And for all the other anglers, these will cut mono or braid, and will let you trim up bait like squid or make quick work of bloodworms.  And you won't need to anger anyone in your household by stealing the kitchen shears.   The fishing remains good.  The drum bite in the bay has slowed down, but has not stopped.  We are hearing ..read more

Shop news.   We received our biggest order of MaiTai rigs ever.  Scott is not happy.  He is still checking them in as he restocks the store.  When he is done, we will restock the online store. The black drum bite has slowed down a bit.  As this fishery is unprecedented, we are not sure if the weather shut the fish off, chased away the anglers, or the fish moved somewhere else.  Frankly, it could be a combo of the three.  If the fish moved, where did they go?  Did they push further north in the bay?  Turn back south towards Barnegat Inlet?  ..read more
