For Lupercalia, the Roman festival of wolves on February 15th, here's a look at a book about wolves, their magic and mythology:   by Rachel S Roberts. It's described as an inspirational guide to embodying your inner wolf. It's due to reach shops in August, but can already be pre-ordered and I had a chance to read it early. This is the endorsement I wrotre about it: , by Rachel Roberts, is a book for anyone who wants to learn about the lives, myths, legends, and stories of these enigmatic and inspiring creatures, then use that knowledge for personal development and spiritual ..read more

Spells: Enchanting a Book & Pen for Wish Magic

I love it when people ask me interesting questions about magic. The other day someone who reads this blog asked me: "Do you have a spell to enchant a book to make your wishes come true, or do have a spell to enchant a pen to make your wishes come true?"  Find the perfect book with blank pages. If you're like me you might have a beautiful notebook you've been given or bought, but felt it was too nice for ordinary things. Well, an enchanted book of wishes could be its perfect purpose. That tiny Book of Secrets in the picture at the top is what I'm using for this spell. I've had it for ages ..read more

Here's an extract from a new book The Healed State by Christianne Wolff, which is a guide to well-being. The whole book is about healing mind, body, soul, relationships and the environment. This section is on forces that heal. Another reason why nature is just so good for us is because we share the same microbiome! Microbiome is the home of a community of microorganisms which are fungi, bacteria and viruses and live in many environments around us including water, soil and the air. These microbes also live within us mainly within our skin, vagina and gastrointestinal tract. Our body is home to ..read more

Midsummer is a time to think about fairy lore, so here's an extract from a new book, Where Fairies Meet: Parallels Between Irish and Romanian Fairy Traditions, by Daniela Simina:  Fairies guarding forests demand respect. Treating the woods with disrespect may prove fatal. In 'The Forest' tale, a group of woodcutters gather around the fire to decide how much more they should cut considering that they had already reached their quota for the season. Before officially beginning their council, the elder among woodcutters first makes an offering to the zâne  [* Romanian fairies] guar ..read more

Here's an excerpt from a new book, Becoming Flawesome, by Kristina Mänd-Lakhiani. We live in a society which tends to demonise our flaws and make us feel we aren't good enough. The book is about the author's own battle against perfectionism, and about how we can all learn to be more at home with our own authentic selves. Becoming Flawesome: The Key to Living an Imperfectly Authentic Life It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a good book has to start with a proper introduction. And by “proper” I mean that it has to prime the reader for the journey, raise excitement and set expectations ..read more

I'm really proud to be one of the featured authors appearing at Beckenham Book Festival 2023, this Sunday, 2nd July. Along with a dozen or so other authors, I'll be giving a short talk and I'll also have a stall. The event's in the grounds of a nice pub, so if you're in the area you can just pop in, have a drink, and say hi. You don't need to buy any books but you're welcome to browse and listen to the talks, storytelling and other events that are taking place, including a raffle and a quiz with a prize. As I was sorting out a pile of my books to take along, I thought it might be a good idea t ..read more

Book Review: Pagan Portals - Planetary Magic

Whenever I do spells, I check the phase of the moon and day of the week and try to use the prevalent energy. Most witches find magic works best when the moon is full. In ancient times, the Moon was thought of as a planet, as was the Sun. Monday was the Moon's day. Sunday was associated with the Sun.  The other days of the week were also linked to planets: Wednesday with Mercury, Friday with Venus, Tuesday with Mars, Thursday with Jupiter and Saturday with Saturn. These planetary correspondences are still used by magical practitioners today because the power of tradition is also a strong f ..read more

Book: Riches for Witches - Creating Magical Abundance
A Bad Witch's Blog » Book

There are really silly ideas that keep cropping up, that witches have to be poor and that it's wrong to do magic for money. We all need enough money to eat, have a roof over our heads, pay the bills and also to have some fun. There's nothing wrong with doing a little magic to help with that. And, of course, abundance isn't all about money. is a new book by Sheena Cundy that offers ways of making our lives rich in many ways. I was lucky enough to read a copy before it came out and here's an endorsement I wrote: “Riches are more than just money. Although I’m sure everyone wants sufficient cash t ..read more
