Happy Galentine’s Day to my eternally single folks!             In the past, I posted about my favorite fictional couples for Valentine’s Day Top 10 Tuesday. But in recent years, I added more romance novels to my TBR than I have read. I can’t remember the last time I had a new OTP or fictional crush. For this week’s Top 10 Tuesday, I opted to write about ten adult romance novels currently on my physical TBR: Happy Place by Emily Henry is a second chance romance and friendship story following a couple fake dating to not ruin a vacation wit ..read more

I’m sure you’ve all been waiting with bated breath for this post: my favorite reads of 2023.             If you read my 2023 reading wrap up, you know how last year went for me. Everything I had going on in my personal life affected my reading. As such, the books on this year’s favorites do not quite stick out in comparison to other years. That said, they are the books that got me out of my head and in my feelings when I needed it most.             Those books are: Saga, Vol. 10 by Bri ..read more

Stacking the Shelves #17

Don’t worry—I didn’t buy these books! (Those will be in a later post, though.)             My reading plans for December were to read whatever I wanted. This included randomly selected audiobooks or going to the library and borrowing any books I found interesting on the new fiction shelves. Four of these books I’d put on hold prior to my recent visit to the library. And as is my custom, I fully anticipate I might not read all of them.               For today’s Stacking the Shelves ..read more

What Makes a Book a “Christmas” Story?

If you have followed my blog for a while, you may have taken notice of my love/hate relationship with seasonal reading. When I first drafted this post, it was more of “pros versus cons” of seasonal reading. Unfortunately, I did not have a lot of “pro” things to say. Instead, I focused on another question I recently asked myself: what makes a book a “Christmas” story?             Between the holiday seasons of 2021 and 2022, I accumulated over twenty Christmas books. That pile only got bigger in 2023. In previous years, my intention was to ..read more

Random Books on the “Lower” End of My To Be Read Pile

“Lower” end? What does that mean exactly? I have a very, very big physical to be read pile. The Word document is (currently) 121 pages, with both the unread books I own and the ones I intend to buy, highlighted in dark red. The idea was to buy the red books as I read through each page, so to get to them sooner rather than later. Of course, none of it is set in stone. I could decide to read some of those dark red books as audiobooks or from the library. Or delete them altogether…though, admittedly I’ve added more to the “to buy” books than not. When I wrote out my TBR Word document, after listi ..read more

Review of When You Wish Upon a Star by Elizabeth Lim (spoiler-free)

First things first: it took me two weeks to read the audiobook for When You Wish Upon a Star. Which leaves me to wonder, is it me, or is it the book?                When You Wish Upon a Star is the latest installment in the Disney Twisted Tales series. As the title suggests, it is a reimagining of the movie Pinocchio. The novel is the origin story of the enigmatic Blue Fairy, who was once an ordinary girl named Chiara living in a village called Pariva.  When she breaks fairy law to help her old friend Geppetto by bringing al ..read more

Top 10 Tuesday: Ten Books in Red, White, and Blue

Happy Fourth of July to my fellow Americans!             I know some people have mixed feelings towards otherwise known as Independence Day. I completely understand why. Personally, it’s always been a non-event in my family; it was more a random day off in the middle of the week than barbecues. For me, though, it is about books with red, white, and blue covers! A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson is a queer vampire horror story retelling the legend of Dracula’s Brides. Upgrade by Blake Crouch is a science fiction thriller with a lot of geneti ..read more

Book Shopping is My Therapy

Over the past few posts, I made it no secret that my life has been stressful lately. And when I’m stressed, I shop. Of course, it doesn’t take much for me to want to buy books. But when I’m in need of relief, my self-control is put to the test.             To be fair, the books in this haul I bought over a span of weeks. I bought books on March 23rd, then I didn’t buy books again until the middle of April. My problem is buying too much in one go. However, recent events have deeply impacted my work schedule. Meaning…the “adult” part of me i ..read more

For the first time in years, it looks like spring where I live. The weather is warming up. We haven’t seen snow in weeks. So, this tag is perfectly relevant.             The Spring Has Sprung Book Tag was created by the Naughty Librarian and I found it on Bookables. Books on My Physical TBR I Keep Avoiding

If the pile of seventeen library books currently on my nightstand is any indication, I tend to avoid my entire physical to be read pile….             There are books on my physical TBR that I’ve owned for years but are not on my priority list. The books on my priority list are ones I labeled “favorites”; I loved the first or two in the series, but still have not completed the remaining installments.             Sadly, these are not the only series on my physical TBR that I started and ..read more
