Somewhere along the Mid North Coast between Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour, you’ll find Hat Head National Park. As one of many national parks on the New South Wales (NSW) coast, you might not think much about visiting this small park. But, think again. Warrumbungle National Park was somewhere I’d wanted to go for some time. The images of dramatic rocky outcrops and towering spires against rolling ridgelines and starry nights were utterly enticing. Located less than a couple of hours south of Sydney, Kiama is a popular weekend getaway on the South Coast. When I arrived for the first time, I was quick to understand why. Home to the largest granite monolith in the Southern Hemisphere, Bald Rock National Park is an underrated highlight of northern New South Wales. The beautiful and unique area is a great weekend camping and walking destination, with a chance to enjoy some panoramic views in a peaceful bush setting.
