Baby Sebastian & Being a Mother

We welcomed our sweet Sebastian Buckley on November 21st, 2023. He was born gently at home, and his brothers are obsessed with him. I’m still processing my birth story and figuring out how to share it. What has been more pressing on my heart is motherhood and I want to share this with you. I used to believe that being a physical therapist was “more”than being a mother. I’m not sure what more means if that’s more impactful or if it just feels more important? I used to believe it gave me more purpose. It was something I was very proud of. I would get so much affirmation and compliments about ho ..read more

Baby Borning?

I was 9 days past my due date, not that I give due dates authority, but that's where I was at. I felt fantastic. Great energy, no discomforts, and not a single bit of the pelvic heaviness or “lowness” that I felt towards the end with the others. In fact, I had just had a 41 week midwife appointment, and ended up calling my mom who was to be traveling from Houston to just continue living her life because that’s what we were going to do. There wasn’t a single sign that labor was imminent other than the fact that I was 41 weeks. While I was in good spirits, I was willing to try gentle things to ..read more

I just want to share anecdotally what I have seen with women with endometriosis. First, I have to give a huge shout out to NaPro Technology and the BRILLIANT physicians that practice out of Whole Life Authentic Care. This is fertility medicine at its finest truly helping couples find root causes to infertility and achieve pregnancy by restoring women to optimal health with their cycles. They use methods that completely cooperate with the woman's body opposed to many other gynecological methods that suppress and in some cases damage the woman's reproductive system. NaPro technology is incredib ..read more

It is a whole different club when a mama goes past 40 weeks. I know the due date is just an estimate plus or minus 2 weeks, but for me that date got stuck in my head, and every day that passed, I felt like a marathon runner that got to the end of the race only to be told they changed the rules and it’s a mile more. Just the day before the birth, I had a moment of prayer where I reflected on my own due date and birth date. I was born 2 weeks “early.” Had I been born just one week past my due date, I would have started school a year later, which means the rest of my life especially adult life w ..read more

The Difference Between a 6 Week Post Partum Check Up and a Pelvic PT Exam.

I just want to clear the air on the difference between a vaginal exam at your 6 week post partum check up and a pelvic PT exam. Too often women come to me confused and distraught because they know things aren’t quite right down there, but their OB gave them the “all clear,” or worse, they received really bad advise or bad bedside manner regarding their symptoms. I could probably write a book on the things women have shared with me about what they’ve been told at their 6 week check up, but just to name a few… One woman when she expressed that it felt like her insides were falling out did not e ..read more

As a pelvic PT, I absolutely love what I do. I get the honor of helping women restore their bodies after birth. It’s more than a job. It’s an anointing. It wasn’t until after the birth of my first baby in 2018 that I experienced the fire in my belly about post partum care in this country. While I could rant about all the ways moms are underserved post partum, I choose to create. I chose to create out of my own post partum darkness of chronic pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse, and leaks. I was not ok for a long time, and it affected the way I bonded with my baby, my relationship with my husba ..read more
