Sometimes all that’s needed on a rough day is some crusty death metal. Luck would have it that Crawl has dropped their sophomore full-length, Altar of Disgust (Transcending Obscurity Records), and it is a journey to say the least. One of the best parts of writing for Ghost Cult Magazine is getting so many new bands’ (to me) albums to review that absolutely blow me away.  Boston Hardcore legends The Hope Conspiracy did just that with their latest, Confusion/Chaos/Misery … The post EP REVIEW: The Hope Conspiracy – Confusion – Chaos – Misery appeared first on Ghost Cult Magazine ..read more

Old Wounds – Death Projection

The meeting of Crust punk, hardcore and metal is by no means an original concept, just look at the plethora of bands in recent years that the likes of Black Breath and Trap Them have opened the doors to, and it is certainly a formula that New Jersey upstarts Old Wounds are not adding any real creativity to on their debut EP Death Projection (Good Fight), but it does prove that they pack a punch. Nails – Inherit: Live At Birthdays, London

Buried in the heart of Dalston, Birthdays seems an unlike venue to host one of the US’s finest hardcore bands, Nails. Packed full of neon lighting and modern décor the hoard of hardcore and metal fans invading the establishment for the evening seem mildly out of place. While the venue may not have been ideal, this didn't deter the fans as the show sold out a week in advance. Lord Dying – Vaporizer – Lunglust: Live At O’Brien’s Allston MA

Thankfully for the majority of shows I have been to this year, the brutal winter weather has been no match for the brutal live music scene. Although O'Brien's barely holds 100 people, the joint was sold out on this frigid, windy night. The placed was packed and people were keeping warm with a pint or three for this Friday night. Lots of local luminaries were out in force, naturally. One of the cooler people in the scene is Michelle Dugan, who makes gorgeous silk screen print posters and other kinds of design work for local and national bands. Hit her up if you need some fresh designs. Nice to ..read more

Fury – Failed Entertainment

I remember hearing Fury for the first time way back when in the dark recesses of time, well 2016 to be exact, look I'm getting old and it all gets a bit blurry, ok!?! Anyway, their debut record Paramount (Triple B Records) was released to little fanfare but quickly grew in popularity in underground circles. Sophomore release Failed Entertainment (Run For Cover Records) is here and to say that it's long-awaited would be an understatement. Way more outlets are now looking at Fury as a band to watch out for this year. The post Fury – Failed Entertainment appeared first on Ghost Cult Magazine ..read more

Mutilation Rites – Chasm

Brooklyn, New York, based black metallers Mutilation Rites are a name that have been making somewhat of a buzz in some extreme metal and underground circles. Far from being a necessarily revolutionary band, Mutilation Rites’ sound has been predominantly old school based; being raw, frantic and evil sounding; but they have always felt genuine and backed up with quality. ALBUM REVIEW: Cloud Rat – Pollinator

Cloud Rat has something to say, and if you’re not willing to lend an ear they’re just going to play louder and faster until they get your attention. No, there are rarely any moments that allow for you to catch your breath on Pollinator (Artoffact Records) so know from the rip that these Michiganders intend to keep your head submerged in gray waters for about thirty minutes.
