The Misfits are going to need a new flag. According to Brad-Elliott Schlossman’s portal tracker for the Grand Forks Herald, Michigan Tech has received a commitment from British centerman Cade Neilson. Neilson previously played at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, where he had 19 points in 31 games as a sophomore this past season. With only one returning center (Max Koskipirtti) and one incoming freshman center (Ryder Matter), Neilson fills a major need for the Huskies. Expect to see him nail down a role as Michigan Tech’s #2 center and be a relied upon piece offensively across his 2 remainin ..read more

Per his twitter, Michigan Tech has received a commitment from former Harvard goaltender Derek Mullahy out of the transfer portal. Mullahy has appeared in 30 games for the Crimson over the past 3 seasons, posting a 2.69 GAA and a .903 Save Percentage. Mullahy flashed high potential as Mitchell Gibson’s backup from 2021 to 2023, but faltered when given an opportunity to be the go-to option this past season. Mullahy will head to Houghton hoping to compete for playing time with Max Vayrynen, the Huskies lone returning goaltender and next season’s presumed starter. Mullahy is a graduate transfer, a ..read more

Michigan Tech Makes Second Portal Addition
Tech Hockey Guide

Michigan Tech has received a second portal commitment in former Michigan State forward Owen Baker. This commitment continues the strong pipeline between the two programs, as Baker joins Isaac Gordon and Viktor Hurtig in making the transition to Houghton from East Lansing (Gordon as a commitment flip, Hurtig via the transfer portal). This likely owes to the strong relationship between Huskies head coach Joe Shawhan and Michigan State coach Adam Nightingale, as Shawhan coached Nightingale in junior. Baker also hails from the Michigan Tech hockey mecca of Howell, Michigan and played AAA with Chas ..read more
