The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook by Matt Dinniman (Dungeon Crawler Carl #3)

I am hauling my way through this series. It was exactly what I needed at this point in my life — which was silly, fun, fast-paced, and with characters I adore. I love watching Donut mature and become more of a serious contender in the crawl. She’s becoming less impulsive and starts to make decisions that consider the future and aren’t made as in-the-moment impulses with little regard to how that will affect herself or others. She also begins to value other people’s input and recognizes that she needs the assistance of others to get through this crawl. We get more of Carl’s backstory which delv ..read more

Homicidal Aliens are Invading and All I Got is this Stat Menu by J.J. Ackerknecht

So, I wanted something fun and easy and this title looked like the thing. I like LitRPG and it’s been a hot minute since I’ve read one. This was okay, lol. Aliens have sent technology to Earth that grants humans powers much like video games. There are stat menus, you level up, you grind levels, and all the standard stuff for LitRPG/video games. The reason why Alien Race 1 sent the tech to Earth was so that humans could have a chance against Alien Race 2 that are coming to take over the world. It’s an odd setup, one that doesn’t make much sense, which is actually acknowledged by the characters ..read more

This was part of Ventureadlaxre’s grouping and has since been eliminated, but it received praise  in the review – https://ventureadlaxre.com/2017/07/19/spfbo-round-three-the-reckoning/ Plot: Ryuk is a young teenager living in Japan, near or in Tokyo. In the start of the book he’s playing an online mmorpg with his friend Tamana, and when they sign off and head home she seems to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train. Soon thereafter Ryuk suffers from hallucinations thinking that npc’s from the game have invaded his apartment. Ryuk’s android looks into reports about th ..read more

So, I had this one marked down as “already read” mistaking it for a different LitRPG with a game called Awaken Online. I went to write the review for it and the authors didn’t match, and then it dawned on me….anyway This one I read very quickly, I started and finished within 24 hours because this book ticked all my boxes – it’s kind of audience specific, but for the right audience it’ll be a lot of fun. This book was reviewed and selected for the semi finalist position by Bookworm Blues, and what I really *love* about that is the fact that the person who read it admitted they do not play games ..read more

Bingo Squares: Debut Novel, Indie Author, Audiobook, Non human POV I am burning through Indie Authors recently and I’m enjoying myself so much! This book is going to be pretty audience specific, after reading Andrew Rowe’s Sufficiently Advanced Magic and enjoying my first LitRPG I decided I’d check out some more. If you enjoyed his book, you will probably enjoy this book, but be aware this leans way more towards RPG than mixed with epic fantasy like Rowe’s book. So, ya know when you’re doing dungeon raids in video games? This book explores just how these dungeons come into being, why they spaw ..read more

Dragon Hack by Andrew Seiple

I read Threadbare a while ago, which was also written by Andrew Seiple, and it stands as one of my favorite books. Not just in LitRPG, but just in general for self published books. It’s just so cute and fun that I recommend it any time it’s appropriate. So, why not try another one of this author’s series? I was not as much of a fan of this series right off the bat, like within the first chapter I thought I may set it down. The only reason I kept going was my thoughts of Threadbare and surely I would like this more as it went along. I did, thank goodness. I think it’s pretty clear that the targ ..read more

I picked this up because it’s narrated by Travis Baldree, love that guy, and it’s a LitRPG. As my last couple reviews have mentioned, I hit a reading slump around October and have beeen struggling ever since. I’ve been reading a lot of LitRPG to get me through it. It’s got a ton of good reviews, too, so why not? In this world VR gaming isn’t new, but a fully immersive sensory experience is. All of the VR games up to this point don’t have much in the way of sensory input, but a brand new game that requires state of the art pods just hit the market. As a marketing ploy, they offered 15 slots ahe ..read more

I picked this up because it was on sale and narrated by Travis Baldree. There are time where I buy an audiobook solely based off who narrates it — just the audiophile in me The MC, Arnold, was just going about his normal life when he gets accidentally murdered by a multidimensional being. Yep. Something about a resurrection gone wrong, multidimensional universe… quite honestly I really don’t remember the mechanics of it as it doesn’t really bear any further importance to the story. He gets sucked into a different version of earth that comes with a built-in leveling system. Much like other Lit ..read more

I have started back up with my author review requests and why not start with those that have audiobooks? So! I thought this was going to be a portal type fantasy since this is set in the modern world that’s not recognizably different from our own. Suddenly, “artefacts” start showing up all over the world and eventually beings that resemble what we would call elves, orcs, dwarves etc. start speaking to us and telling us that Earth is doomed. Orcs are trying to enslave humanity and elves are trying to assist. However… this is pretty much a standard litrpg. The Earth is essentially going to be as ..read more

Ok, so this is another one of the books I picked up during the holiday Megasale. I saw that the audiobook was performed by one of my favorite narrators, Nick Podehl. This starts out as a pretty typical LitRPG, it features a twenty something protag named Sam who has just graduated from college. Sam has a pretty good family, he seems to enjoy his life and he doesn’t appear to be someone who buries themselves in video games to escape an otherwise miserable life. I found that refreshing, the hate-my-life trope is used quite a bit. His parents are supportive and actually bought him the video game E ..read more
