Good morning. I’m introducing a new series intended to take a look at each team in the new Big 12. I’m not sure how many I’ll get done each week, but the only way for me to really know about these teams is to actually do the research so I can be relatively informed when the season hits. So I spent time doing the research this weekend. There are links to everything below so if there isn’t a link, then I didn’t write it, but I always link back to the originator of the content. I wanted to take a quick look at the team: get a feel for the best players; look into their portal class consisted and h ..read more

JT Toppin is a 6’9″ forward who played his first year at New Mexico and committed and signed to Texas Tech on Tuesday. Toppin averaged 12.4 points per game, making 62% of his shots from the floor, 9.1 rebounds, 0.6 assists, 1.9 blocks, and 1.1 steals a game in just 26 minutes a game. In looking at Toppin’s advanced stats, his biggest weaknesses are his assist rate, just 4.2 and free throws, making 56% overall. The strengths are exactly what you think, high block rate, low turnover rate, high rebound rates, high effective field goal percentage, and high offensive rating, simply because he ..read more

Tough as Nails
This has nothing to do with football, so if you’re just interested in football, skip this part. In Gloucester, England, the annual Cooper’s Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake contest is held and Abby Lampe, from NC State has won the women’s division two years in a row. I don’t know that I’ve seen a tougher woman just have zero regard for her body to get a cheese roll. Just tremendous toughness.
US woman Abby Lampe WINS Women’s Cheese Rolling race for a second time. Abby, from North Carolina, rolled to victory in the wacky annual event held on Cooper’s Hill in Gloucestershire today ..read more

NCAA Settlement
Yahoo’s Ross Dellinger reports that the Big 12 has signed the $2.8 billion settlement, but there are issues with how the settlement is being divided:
The industry, on the brink of authorizing a landmark settlement of three consolidated antitrust cases, is fighting amongst itself over how to fund the deal’s $2.8 billion in damages owed to former athletes for use of their name, image and likeness (NIL). In a framework approved Tuesday by the Division I Board of Directors, the NCAA will fund 41% of the damages ($1.1 billion) while the schools will fund 60% ($1.65 billion) over a 1 ..read more

Texas Tech received a commitment from 4-star point guard Christian Anderson, Jr. (6-1/160) from Oak Hill Academy, Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. Anderson was originally committed to Michigan, but when Michigan let Juwan Howard go as head coach, Anderson opened up his commitment (Rivals | 24/7 Sports | On3 | ESPN).
