Folks, Haven't seen anyone else do this yet, so figured I would post a picture of my Sequoia with the 20" 2010 4Runner Limited wheels. Right now I am just running 285/50/20 tires on there (came with those on) until the weather gets worse and then I will spring for a nice set of aggressive AT's - maybe some Nitto Grapplers or 10 ply Coopers. Anyway, I snapped this picture quickly with my phone. Will get some decent pictures soon... My 02 Sequoia with 20" 4Runner Limited wheels ..read more

Hey gang - 2001 Seq with 458k miles (really). Need help … Replaced the radio unit so my bride can enjoy music again. Also replaced the speakers (heck, why not?). Result is a very very low whisper of sound coming from the speakers. Can’t figure out why. Adjusted all the dials. Noticed the speaker circuit and the power mirror circuit both share a common connector. Oh, and one of the power mirror control switches is disabled. (That was ‘short term’ hack to stop the grinding sound of a... No sound to speakers ..read more

I have a 2004 Sequoia that about a month ago started to run rough at idle and the CEL started flashing at stop lights. I pulled the codes and all cylinders showed misfires. I have 218K on the vehicle and not the original owner. Of course it suggested plugs and coil packs. I replaced all plugs and coil packs and the codes persisted. Someone suggested the timing belt so I cracked that open and saw the original belt was dry rotted but timing was still perfect. I went ahead and changed the... I started having trouble with the VSC TRAC lights. I was getting random grabbing on left rear. I may have a bad speed sensor there, but I wanted to share what I have learned. There are 3 pins on the OBDII connector you will use, Ts, Tc, and CG. The pins are arranged like: ......__...... XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX The underscore show the alignment tab. The pins are located here Ts = 1 Tc = 2 CG = 3 .....__..... XX12XXXX XXXX3XXX sorry for the crude dwg. Look to see where pins are it helps. Just knocked out changing a failing brake booster on the Sequoia. From other threads and a GM video on YouTube I made the decision to suck it up and give this a shot myself. The truck has 148K on it and just ran great over a 1000 mile college visit round robin this past week. Over the past several months the brake booster made an annoying whistling sound as you let off the pedal - braking action and pedal feel was normal. As this is my wife's truck my recommendation was for her to turn up... '02 Brake Booster DIY ..read more

Most 1st generation Sequoias are starting to look their age, and some owners might want to spruce up their looks without spending a lot of money, time and effort. I know I was feeling that way with my rig. So I decided to do something about it and found Trail Runner Customs. They are one of a few aftermarket companies catering to Sequoias, so I decided to give them a try. I ordered up one of their grills last year and recently ordered their newly available window trim sets. Before: [ATTACH... Trail Runner Customs Grill and Window Trim Review ..read more

Bad time to buy 1st gen Sequoia?

My wife and I have been in the market for a 1st gen Sequoia for a while, but the 4WD models seem kind of outrageously priced right now. A 2WD model with average mileage seems to run around $6000 - 8000 depending on year and condition, but the 4WD models seem to run around $10,000 - $13,000, unless you get a really old, high mileage (250k+) one with a shady past from a shady seller. We like going offroad, so 4WD is basically a must for us. Would we be idiots to buy right now? Are prices high... Bad time to buy 1st gen Sequoia ..read more

I recently purchased a 01’ Sequoia Limited 4x4 with 170k on the dash. Really well kept. No mechanical/drivetrain issues. Person I bought from informed me that back rear window, as well as back passenger and driver windows do not function. Wasn’t the biggest deal breaker prior to buying as I would take it upon myself to diagnose/troubleshoot what the issue could be to get them back up and going. I started by checking fuses in the panels, upon further inspection no fuses were blown so I... 2001 Toyota Sequoia Limited ..read more

Hi guys- Sorry in advance for a long post about my 4wd blinking orange light problem... I've been reading many posts on this wonderful site as well as others devoted to toyota trucks as I've got the blinking orange light - 4wd problem as well on my 2002 Sequoia SR5 that I've owned since buying it 8 years ago next month brand new - 79,000 miles on it. I am trying to avoid opening up my wallet for the dealer if I can fix it myself with parts. I'll give you what I've done and figured so... 2002 Sequoia No 4WD, Blinking Orange Light, Actuator Issues ..read more

Seat Belt Cleaning

I was looking for a quick job to do and noticed the driver's seat belt was looking a little ick. So I decided to do something about it. I've read that you can use Dawn dish soap on it to take up all the hand oils that it picks up, and I may do that later. The product I used was a can of regular carpet cleaner. I don't think it matters what kind you choose. Having the attached plastic bristle brush on the can helps a lot with cleaning. It also helps to have a clamp or vise grip to hold the...
