Mark Madsen has done great work to rebuild Cal men’s basketball in the transfer portal, two years in a row. The Bears have some work to do to compete for March Madness in 2025, but they will have the roster that can give them that shot. The next step for the Bears is to start landing top high school prospect to raise the ceiling. And they have a chance to make a big splash this week. Jovani Ruff, one of the best wing prospects in the 2025 class, listed a top four of Cal, Kansas, Oregon and USC. He will decide tomorrow on June 5th. Ruff is a 6-foot-5 wing out of Long Beach (Calif.) Poly High ..read more

Cal football bench reportedly switching sidelines from student section to alumni

One Cal football update now that tickets are open for sale for the 2024 season. The sidelines appear to be switching. The Home Bench is heading to the shady section on the west side of Memorial Stadium, and the visitors will switch to the sunny side. The Pac-12 did not allow student sections to be situated behind the visiting home section due to the competitive advantage it could afford any one program. Oddly enough, because Cal was one of the few student sections in the conference that had the students situated at the 50 yard line, this meant the football team had the disadvantage of be ..read more

Link He holds offers from ASU, Arkansas, Baylor, BC, Illinois, and SMU among others. What is notable is the offer from Baylor which is lead by HC Aranda who runs a similar scheme to HC Wilcox’s, this indicates that both coaches see him as strong schematic fit in the system. He is the 8th recruit in the 2025 HS cycle, he joins Ike Okafor and Kaden Cook as the 3rd player from the Lone Star State. So far we have 8 commits 3 of whom are form CA and 3 from TX, indicating an intent to expand our recruiting footprint nationally. I wonder if our games against SMU + OC Bloech’s connections will keep ..read more

Near the conclusion of spring practice, Cal wide receiver coach Burl Toler chatted with the media about the status of his wideouts. On what the new wide receivers will bring It's been great. It's been a little unique having six new guys be here since December, so it's been good. We have a good addition with speed and size with Tobias [Merriweather], he can really stretch the field, so he's shown some great things out there the first couple of days. Mikey [Matthews], we needed somebody that had something to him in the slot and can move around and also has returning ability, so Mike has been a ..read more

Heroes It’s weird to finally get to this point. For the better part of a decade, I have been one tiny voice in the sea of voices calling for NCAA reform. Meanwhile, for years it has been incredibly obvious to anybody paying the slightest bit of attention that reform was going to be forced upon the NCAA via the legal process. Now, finally, facing a multi-BILLION-dollar class action finding and knowing that they’ve spent the last 5 years getting laughed out of every court room across the United States, and NCAA finally came to the negotiating table and agreed to end amateurism forever.
