  The Pacific Madrone (also called the Arbutus Tree) is one of my favorite trees in the Pacific Northwest.  I first saw it on Vancouver Island in British Columbia.  Their peeling dark reddish-orange bark and smooth trunk in similar hues are distinct.  It's easy to spot an Arbutus tree among the lush green foliage that surrounds it.   I find them most beautiful when their backdrop is the water, and the sun hits their fiery bark illuminating it in a way that draws your eye right to it.   You can see a few more photos and read more about the tree on this ..read more

  We made another trip on the Seaspan ferry from Delta, British Columbia to Swartz Bay, British Columbia, located on Vancouver Island.  It's the best view from a ferry we've ever been transported on.  We back onto the front of the ship, they put up a little net to keep us from going over the side (LOL), and away we go!  We just sit in the cab of our truck and have an unobstructed view as we snake through the Gulf Islands.   The weather was gorgeous and since it's whale migration season, we thought we might see some orcas swimming through the Strait of Georgia, b ..read more
