Went from a 5.7% to a 5.0% in 2 months

Did this without even having to make huge changes. All I did was walk more , for example doing an extra lap when I take my dog for a walk. And walking to the gym 15 min instead of driving for 3 min. Also just started eating low carb bread and tortillas since a lot of my meals revolve around those. Totally doable and sustainable ! submitted by /u/Aware-Plane-137 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Need some advice

Got my a1c tested recently came back with a 5.5 with a average 111 blood sugar. My doctor told me while I'm not technically considered pre diabetic I'm pretty close. With that information I have a question. To prevent a raise into the prediabetic stage do I need to just prevent huge spikes in blood sugar? If I'm consistently lower than 140 after eating is that good? I can never seem to get into the 90s 3 hours after eating. Ive completely revamped my diet. No fast food, fried foods or sweets. Fruits are the only source of sugars I eat and it's mainly granny smith apples. I'm just new to all t ..read more

Net carbs??

Hi all- I am tracking my carbs via the app carb manager and I have my limit set to about 60 grams of net carbs a day. I keep seeing comments here saying “net carbs” is BS but everything I research says those foods are legit because of the fiber content and sugar alcohols and such which really shouldn’t impact blood sugar. What is everyone else’s thoughts on this? submitted by /u/AllieArizona3 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Chickpea and Lentil pastas

How does everyone here respond to Chickpea and alternative pastas? I just experimented with Goodles tonight for the first time. Just the pasta with sauce some parm and zucchini and mushrooms. It was my first carb heavy meal in probably a month and a half. I went from about 170-280g carbs a day to 80-140 in that time. The meal was around 100g of carbs and maybe 18-20 fiber and I went up to about 137 on my meter. Not too bad but I did stay over 120 for about 2 and a half hours before dropping. Just wondering how high fiber pasta alternatives treat you all! submitted by /u/durden156 [visit redd ..read more

Triple Spikes?

Hey all. Had a cheat meal today that included fries and ice cream. Made sure to have plenty of protein throughout the day. Confused by timeline. 6:30 first bite. 7-7:30: Spike to 150. Also had ice cream. 7:45: Back down to 120. 8-8:30: Back in 150 range. 9-9:45: Back down to normal levels (100) 10:15: HUGE spike to 160. Took until 11:30 to even get back down to 120. Now I understand the first two spikes, and was expecting. I don't understand the spike almost 4 hours later. Help? submitted by /u/jjdresselhaus [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

6.1 to 5.3 over 14 months!

Last year I had an A1c of 6.1. I got it down to 5.6 and now 5.3 a year later. I definitely wasn’t perfect but I did the basics: reduced carbs, cut sugar, and most importantly counted calories to lose weight. I wasn’t perfect on the diet. Maybe 85% adherence. I had some ice cream, a donut or two, and some french fries once in a while. Where I had perfect attendance was training. I haven’t missed a day of training since April 1st, 2023. I attribute a lot of success to building muscle and losing fat. I took Berberine for a minute. I think it helped but nothing major. Same with ACV. I also used ..read more

Can someone tell me what is the problem with red meat?

I see a lot influencers and normal everyday people who don't have blood sugar issues who regularly consume red meat (Dr. Berry, Jordan Peterson, etc.). Yet here, I see some of you talking about getting prediabetes under control, including cutting out red meat. What's the connection? Red meat contributes to prediabetes? Red meat had about ZERO sugar - so why avoid it? Not being facetious, trying to learn something that could benefit my health. Breathe. I know it can feel scary and frustrating and overwhelming and unfair and exhausting. Breathe. It's going to be okay. I wanted to share this list hoping this can be of help to anyone out there -- it's something I compiled for myself based on my own monitoring + needs but wanted to share. As always, ymmv as this is highly individual (what works for me may not work for u) but hoping this can be of some help. You've got this, we're all cheering for you, and it'll be okay. If I'm hungry, eating > not eating. Eating is always better than not eating, particularly for me as someone with ..read more

Hi everyone! I wanted to ask for some advice, I’ve already started low carb, and higher protein diet, as well as strength training since I found out about 2 weeks ago. I’m going to be honest- I hate it. I love working out, but the food is something I’m still trying to learn, it feels very overwhelming right now. What did you guys do to manage anxiety and all the changes? I have autism as well, so I just get overwhelmed easily and struggle with anxiety, so I often assume the worst. Anyways here’s my story: about 3 weeks ago I started seeing a new doctor, after not going to one for awhile, and ..read more
