Hello everyone, Call it what you will, just looking for some advice and don’t know a lot of waterfowlers anymore. I grew up hunting Carlyle, I know what that’s all about. My favorite was usually hunting out of the boat on the main lake and having a chance at a few ducks. I noticed on the IDNR website that the Chain O' Lakes blinds are open to anyone on a first come first serve basis if they are not occupied by the legal blind builders by 30 minutes before legal shooting time. Is there alot of competition on the lakes for these blinds? As in, are there a lot of hunters out on the lake trying claim these blinds when the owners dont show or is there usually some pretty good availability? Thanks ..read more

I am looking at taking my grandsons duck hunting in January. I am looking for help in the Pool 24 area. I have read a lot of the Ill. DNR information, but I am still confused on permits. First, I have a duck boat that can handle the Mississippi. Second, I would be looking for no permit areas. Third, if I have to have a permit, I would not want a blind, but a stake,(if those are possible in Pool 24). I plan on scouting the area in September, but I need help in where I might go...
