I'll be starting at a new PP as a new grad next week and start with a few days of orientation to the ORs and running 1 room. What are some things you wish you knew when you started at a new practice? It could be medical knowledge, or logistics of the work flow. Trying to be as prepared as possible. submitted by /u/musictomyomelette [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Use of lidocaine to prevent Propofol injection pain

Hi guys, I got a question, in my hospital, central Europe, we routinely use a Lil bit of lidocaine like added to the Propofol syringe 200 MG/20ml + the 2ml lidocaine. I'm not sure which product it is, but I should be lidocaine 2%, so 20mg per 1ml. So we inject 40 MG of lidocaine into the patient to reduce the pain during the induction. Edit: Is that a common thing to do or are there even some contraindications like for patients with elevated cardiovascular risk? I read a "metastudy" on Pubmed about this and it says overall the evidence is high that it comes with an clear effect. That would be ..read more

Is anybody doing TrueLearn as a CA-2?

I’ve just been reading the occasional book chapter and reading about my cases now. Is there really any need to do TrueLearn this year since the ITE doesn’t really count for anything other than to gauge test taking performance? submitted by /u/Gasgang_ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

From other careers to anaesthesiology

So MD is my second degree. I didn't get into medicine but I didn't give up on it. I'm about to start my residency as an anaesthesiologist (30yo currently). I'm always worried that I'm too old. Am I? I've worked in the university for several years, I got my PhD and did research but now I feel that I'm doing something that people do at 25yo or something. Is it common for people to be "late comers"? submitted by /u/Theflutist92 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How long of a commute is worth it?

Will be working at a smaller town. Bigger town about 40 minutes away. Would love to live in a bigger town and like to do social things and meet new people. Worth commuting 40 minutes twice every day verse living locally but being in a lot smaller town? I don't mind HCOL and things, the only thing I have never done before is commute more than 15 minutes to work in residency and medical school. Edit: OB call in house Some call can be taken from home but likely busy and rather stay in house submitted by /u/coolgeigei [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Anesthesiologists, how has the rise of CRNAs impacted your career, and how did you manage the cost of your education?

I'm contemplating a career in anesthesiology but am concerned about the increasing prevalence of CRNAs in the field. I understand that becoming a certified anesthesiologist requires substantial time, effort, and financial investment—around 12-15 years of rigorous education and training. If you are a anesthesiologist, could you share your experiences and insights regarding the impact of CRNAs on your profession? Has their growing presence affected your work or career prospects in any significant way? Additionally, I’m interested in learning about how you managed the financial burden associated ..read more

Hi fam, just starting to do true learn questions and wanted to know about any correlation of % correct to ITE or basic. Also I know I should be using this as a learning tool rather than a test your knowledge tool at this stage, but should I be panicking if some of my tests are abysmal? Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/arw1821 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
