Wairau were the big winners on finals day last Saturday taking out both the Div1 and Div2 trophies of the SBS Bank 40 over competition. Hunter Ruffell led Wairau to victory in the Div1 final taking 3-25 as Renwick were dismissed for 157 before hitting an unbeaten 60 to chase the total down with 15 overs to spare. Rikki Bovey (31), Piers Landon-Lane (46) and Richard O’Shaughnessy (33) all made starts for Renwick without pushing on to a significant score on a good batting pitch. The PaknSave Marlborough Women’s side just missed out on claiming the Hiwa-i-te-rangi trophy on Sunday in a thrilling finish. Nelson captain and star batter Kate Gaging looked to be taking her team to victory until she was dismissed for 85 by Courtney Bowen leaving her team 8 wickets down and still 12 runs required. A busy season of representative cricket concludes this weekend with both the Men’s and Women’s sides in action on Sunday. The PaknSave Women’s side play their final game of the season at Horton Park as they take on Nelson at Horton Park for the Hiwa-i-te-rangi trophy. It was a tough and winless weekend for a young Marlborough Senior Rep Men’s team over last weekend at the Central Districts Chapple Cup tournament in Palmerston North. The team bounced back from a 10 wicket loss to Whanganui on the first day with a much improved performance against Horowhenua Kapiti led by a century from player coach Andrew McCaa. The SBS Bank T20 Finals were played last Thursday and Friday evening at Horton Park with a good turnout of spectators enjoying some exciting games. On Thursday UCVC took out the 2nd grade Section A title by a single run from Celtic Green in a tense finish. Ollie Lawson (45 from 22 balls) took Celtic to the brink of victory needing 4 from the final ball before being run out attempting a 3rd run that would have forced a super over.
