Whole garment knitting is a revolutionary new method of creating knitted garments. Unlike traditional knitting, which involves stitching individual pieces together, whole garment knitting produces seamless, fully-formed garments in a single piece. This innovative technique is made possible by using computer-controlled knitting machines that can knit entire garments in one go. One of the main benefits of whole garment knitting is its ability to create complex, intricate designs that would be difficult or impossible to achieve using traditional knitting methods. The computer-controlled knit ..read more

The Knitty-gritty update

My posts have been few & far between lately. So here's the full update   To say lots has been happening would be an understatement.   Between moving house and the chaos that goes with that, my manufacturer was impacted by Covid to the point of closure. This resulted in a lot of time and effort spent in finding a new manufacturer (tears & stress included).   I didn't want to choose just anyone, so my requirements were;   has to be locally based shared values (removing waste, lowering impact on the planet, and giving back to the community/nature) can uphold the ..read more

When people think of knitting, they tend to think about a rocking chair, fireplace, and Gran/pa's needles furiously working on yet another scratchy item. This is why I have taken all the sentimental parts of this, sourced the snuggliest fibres, and integrated it with the unique zero waste knitting process.  The result? A cosy, versatile range of sweaters (and other bits) that will become your new wardrobe favourites. I want people to move away from the robotic regiment of daily dressing to a place where there is joy in what we wear. That is why I create knits t ..read more

Washing your Merino Snuggle Socks
Charly Blog

There are so many reasons I love wool socks; Odour resistant, keeps you toasty while also being breathable, warm even when wet (perfect for those weekend hikes) but my favourite one is probably not having to wash them as often as you would for normal socks. Just let them air out overnight. Because seriously, who actually enjoys doing the laundry? Another great benefit to this is that you can actually pack less when heading off on an adventure. This leaves a bit more space for other things you might like to bring along instead.  When the time does come to wash your ..read more

Chosen for its gentle, natural colour and lacey look.  Sand is a summery blend of 60% Cotton, 20% Possum-down and 20% ZQ certified Merino.  To create these select styles, 2 ends of this delicate yarn are knitted together in a unique zero-offcut way. The result, a fabric that has bounce, is quick-dry and pill-free and no nasties ending up in landfill. Sustainably sourced cotton helps create a breathable lace-like layer, perfect for windy days and mild evenings around the BBQ. Stocked only in select textural styles due to the fineness of this intricate yarn.   ..read more

During these abnormal times we are all looking for something a bit resilient to hold onto. So I have sought out a cosy yarn for those of you that need something extra tough and hard-wearing… Maybe you live rural on a lifestyle block like me, maybe you prefer that extra strength or maybe you just love the colour. Whatever your reason, this fabric is a great layer to keep you warm in all possible situations.  Tested from the comfort of my couch as well as the rainy discomfort of the cold, dense and foggy NZ native bush in winter, this fabric has proven to be fantastic in both extremes. The great Kiwi Classic! Having worked in the fashion industry for many years I have seen the incredible amounts of waste that are produced in the process from manufacture to retailer. I care deeply about how items are produced and believe it is collectively the industry's responsibility to make sustainable and environmentally friendly options available. By only putting sustainable and high-quality items into the market, we can change fast fashion and leave the world better for future generations. I am proud to have established a relationship with Perino Yarns who responsibly source ..read more

Lockdown reminiscence for the Angle Rib sweater!

The peculiar combination of it simultaneously being week 7 of the current Covid19 lockdown and mental health awareness week, has reminded me that it is ok to miss "normal life". So I have spent the week remembering all the wonderful things I have taken part in and experienced up to the present day. I love drawing on past experiences and memories to create unique pieces that reflect special moments in life. One of these many special moments is also the source of inspiration for one of my Garments. The Angle Rib sweater was dreamt up during solitary early morning walks along the beach. Every y ..read more
