Gardner Homes Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa is excited to reveal the full 2024 schedule which will tip off Friday October 4th when the Tokomanawa Queens host the Southern Hoiho in a re-match from last season’s semi-final. Tauihi recently announced the doubling of player payments commencing this season and the expansion into international markets in 2025. Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa is announcing a raft of changes, including doubling player wages, opening up the opportunity for international teams to join the league, and a move in its playing season. When the Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa league started in 2022, players were recognised through pay parity with the NZ men’s league. Photo credit: Monica Toretto Following four days of non-stop basketball action, the BBQ Direct Canterbury Rams and Tokomanawa Queens have been crowned 3×3 Cup Champions at ILT Stadium Southland following 182 games of action across the week.  The first title of the night was won by the Queens, who dominated the competition throughout the week, succumbing to defeat just once to finish with a 10-1 record. BNZ Northern Kāhu have been crowned 2023 GJ Gardner Homes Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa champions after defeating ANZCO Tokomanawa Queens in Sunday’s Grand Final at Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua with a 98-72 victory. Having been defeated by the Queens in last year’s showpiece event the Kāhu were able to turn the tables on their rivals winning all four quarters of the contest as they put together a  thoroughly convincing display. The GJ Gardner Homes Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa Grand Finalists have been found following Saturday’s semi-finals played at Te Rauparaha Arena in Porirua. Sunday’s championship game will be a repeat of the 2022 Tauihi final with BNZ Northern Kāhu taking on ANZCO Tokomanawa Queens. In the first semi-final Kāhu defeated Whai 105-80 with the second semi a much closer affair edged 96-89 by the defending champions. Photo Credit: Joe Allison American centre Ashten Prechtel has been named 2023 Tauihi Most Valuable Player following a dominant campaign for the Southern Hoiho. Prechtel’s numbers are eye popping, recording averages of 19.4 PTS (5th), 15.0 REB (1st), 3.7 AST (7th), 2.7 BLK (1st) and 1.8 STL (4th) in 10 games with the Hoiho. She recorded at least 20 points and 20 rebounds in two separate games this season and reeled in at least 20 rebounds on four occasions.
