Late 2020 season progress

Yesterday I went to the range with my clubs in the hunt for some answers to what’s wrong with my long game currently. As it turns out, there’s isn’t so much wrong after all. I put my 9-year old driver, fairway wood and hybrid back in the bag, and truth be told, the balls were pretty much flying as desired. Yes, it was range only from artificial turf but the overall performance was very, very positive. Which is why I believe I neither have a club or swing problem, but more a shaft problem in my new metalwood clubs. A problem that needs some fixing in the off-season clearly. So in the meantime m ..read more

Ball Showcase: Golfclub Mannheim-Viernheim

I wanted to play Mannheim-Viernheim for quite a while now and finally, a couple of weeks ago, I made my way to this course to check it out for the first time. Not my last time, to spoil it a bit. It’s a beautiful course, both with parkland and inland characteristics, and when you want to learn more about it, you should read my blog post ..read more

Sky and golf.tv: What the heck are you doing?

Just when you thought you got access to the best golf broadcasting service, you realize it’s still not the way it should be. It would be so easy though. I was a long-time Sky subscriber. Already when it was Premiere and then later Sky, I paid a fortune in monthly fees to get to watch some golf. I was never interested in other sports than golf, so I paid it for the weekly tournament on the Euro tour and on the PGA tour. That was the time when I haven’t had a family and plenty of time. The years went by and it truly annoyed me how much Sky charged for the sports package and that you a) need a se ..read more

Season 2023 started

The weather has been dreadful the first months of the year. Rain, rain and rain in March, April and the beginning of May. And while I type this, it‘s pouring down again. I was glad that I managed to find one afternoon that was just cloudy and not rainy, and that also fit into my family calendar. I was clearly not the only one with that idea as the driving range was packed with people and I needed to wait a fair bit to get a spot. That was a first. I never had to do that before. But it was a good feeling to swing the clubs again, first time in 2023. My left hand was seriously aching afterwards ..read more

PGA Sultan at Antalya Golf Club, off-season experiences.

During my recent stay in Belek, Turkey, it was no question if I should squeeze some golf rounds into the family break, it was more a question of how often my wife would approve to be alone with the kids… Alone by the pool of a luxury resort that is. I played in Belek years ago already and I was astonished by the number of golf courses and the quality at the time of my stay. Back then I remember it was May when I played five different courses during a course of a 7-day trip. This time we booked a family retreat for eleven days in July and surely some golf was on the table, too. From experience ..read more

A chilly and damp comp day 2020

Last weekend I played my first and only tournament of the 2020 season. This year truly is remarkable I have to say. It feels weird. Usually I play around 10 to 15 tournaments a year. Actually almost every round I play is a tournament. And as I’m playing a comp series that is not connected to a certain club, I tend to get around pretty much in a radius of a 90 minutes ride by car. This year is different. I had no season prep at all, played and practiced very irregularly only and as a consequence didn’t play much at all. As a matter of fact the comp I played last Saturday was the first one this ..read more

Ball marker of the day. A new category on Golficiency

It sounds pretty lame, granted, but what I try to achieve here is not putting on display some boring plastic ball markers but rather showing off with some pretty outstanding pieces of coins from all parts of the world, be it of low or actually high value. Years ago, when my grand-dad passed away, I inherited his collection of coins. It wasn‘t a huge collection per se, but it showed this man had some serious interest in the hobby and accumulated some nice pieces after all the yeard that went into the collection. Inspired by my grand-dad I also acquired some nice pieces as well as collected som ..read more

Belek planning underway

To set the scene in case you are not aware, Belek is a small town in Turkey. It‘s situated on the south coast that they call „Turkish Riviera“ and actually there is one 5-star hotel next to each other right on the Mediterranean coastal strip — and right behind those hotels, there are numerous outstanding golf courses waiting to be tackled. But you knew all this, didn‘t you. I made a trip to Belek already couple of years ago and managed to play five courses during my 7-day stay at lovely Rixos Premium Belek. To check out these rounds, please read the articles with the Belek 2013 tag on this si ..read more

Biggest ups and downs in my whole golf experience

Last week I was competing in just another Deutsche Bank tournament that was staged at my local club, just around the corner. It‘s not a hilly course but still my game was up and down. It‘s one of these days, you head to the course, you have a good feeling, you even practiced a little in advance — which I did indeed. Putts were falling in the practice area and when you head to tee one, you‘re pumped. I stepped on the dancefloor, had the honor and, no kidding, hooked two balls in the bushes. Two balls gone, score in danger right on the first hole. The following holes were weird, too. Either I p ..read more

My second visit to St. Leon-Rot was just as fabulous as the first

It was only much slower, but that wasn’t my fault in all fairness. St. Leon-Rot is one of these famous golf complexes that scream golf quality. It features two courses and they used to be on everyone’s list for the best golf courses in Germany. Last year was the first time I set foot on this holy land and managed to play the St. Leon course, presumably the more exciting and more difficult course. At least it’s the track that is played when international golf tournaments are staged here at St. Leon-Rot. As I only experienced one of the two golf courses so far, the plan was to go for the other ..read more
