There is a race meeting with a number of races.
Each race has horses entered and each horse has a (saddlecloth) number, 1….x, with x being the number of horses entered in each race.
Each horse has a known probability of winning a race (reflected in its price).
I’d like to set a market where...

Hello.
So I got a question about heredity .
Let's say the probability of inheriting schizophrenia is 6 % if one parent is affected.
So i know that for 6 % probability, there is 1.2 kid out of 5 who will inherit that illness .
So is it better not to have kids in this case ..read more

The behavioral sciences use statistical methods to link behavior to specific outcomes. Medical science also tries to find relationships between various behaviors and their health effects. Such studies use statistical methods unfamiliar to most physical scientists.
Regularly, studies with the...

Hello!
I would like to be sure about my understanding of the definition provided in screenshot below
1. What is this ##\mathcal{E}(G,N)##? I know that not all extension are isomorphic so I wonder What are the elements of ##\mathcal{E}## groups? Or maybe all Es diffeomorphic to...

Hello everybody.
I have used probability in troubleshooting electronic pcbs , but the complexity of the designs forced me to apply it in other branches of electrical engineering.
What branch in electrical other than maintenance uses probability theory ..read more

Hello All,
Not sure if this belongs in general math but lets start here and see where it takes us.
In mathematics, a combination is a way of selecting items from a collection where the order of selection does not matter.
As an example , say we have digits 1 to 10. And we want to select...

Hello! I have a situation of the following form. I have a function ##f = xy##. In my experiment ##y## is fixed, but it has some noise to it, such that at each measurement it is basically sampled from a Gaussian with the mean given by the fixed value and the standard deviation given by the known...

I'm reading in my book about the pdf of the sum of two continuous random variables ##X_1,X_2##. First, I'm a bit confused about the fact that the sum of two continuous random variables may not be continuous. Does this fact make the derivation below still valid or is there some key assumption...

I would like a way to compare Amazon ratings as a function of the number of reviews. I think it's pretty clear that a product with a 4.9 rating based of 5,000 reviews is likely better than one with a 5.0 rating based on just 1 review. But how can I calculate an adjusted rating for a set of...

This set-theory theorem is very easy to prove:
(*) if A≈B & C≈D & A∩C=∅ & B∩D=∅ then A∪C≈B∪D
It seems intuitive that if one replaces the strong
A∩C=∅ & B∩D=∅
condition by the weaker
A∩C≈B∩D
the implication
(**) if A≈B & C≈D & A∩C≈B∪∩D then A∪C≈BD
still holds.
(**) does not seem to be much...
