Given R = (1/a) + (1/b) + (1/c), express R as a rational expression.
Let me see.
LCD on left side is abc.
So, abc ÷ a = bc.
Then, abc ÷ b = ac.
Finally, abc ÷ c = ab
On the right side, I get (bc + ac + ab)/(abc), which is a fraction in terms of a, b, and c.
I say R = (bc + ac + ab)/(abc) is the answer.

Rewrite each expression in a form that does not contain absolute values.
How is this done?
(a) | pi - 4 | + 1
(b) | x - 5 | given that x > or = 5
(c) | t - 5 | given that t < 5 ..read more

Given R = 1/[(1/a) + (1/b)].
Let me see.
LCD for [(1/a) + (1/b)] is ab.
I get (b + a)/(ab).
R = (b + a)/(ab)
(ab)R = b + a
abR - a = b
a(bR - 1) = b
a = b/(bR - 1)

Suppose that the graph of a function f is known. Expkain how the graph of y = f(x) - 2 differs from the graph of y = f(x - 2).
Let me see.
For the graph of y = f(x) - 2, the graph of y = f(x) is shifted down 2 units on the line x = 0.
For the graph of y = f(x - 2), the graph of y = f(x) is shifted two units to the right on the line y = 0.

Suppose that the graph of a function f is known. Explain how the graph of y = 4•f(x) differs from the graph of y = f(4x).
Let me see.
For the graph of y = 4•f(x), we stretch the graph vertically because 4 > 1.
For the graph of y = f(4x), we compress the graph horizontally because 4 > 1.

The total projected worldwide digital music revenues R, in millions of dollars, for the years 2005 through 2010 can be estimated by the function
R(x) = 170.7x^2 + 1373x + 1080 where x is the number of years after 2005.
(a) Find R(0), R(3) and R(5),represents. Explain what each value represents.
(b) Find r = R(x- 5).
(c) Find r(5), r(8), and r(10), and explain what each value represents.
(d) In the model r, what does x represent?
Let me see.
Part A
I simply replace x with 0, 3, and 5...
