Given R = (1/a) + (1/b) + (1/c), express R as a rational expression. Let me see. LCD on left side is abc. So, abc ÷ a = bc. Then, abc ÷ b = ac. Finally, abc ÷ c = ab On the right side, I get (bc + ac + ab)/(abc), which is a fraction in terms of a, b, and c. I say R = (bc + ac + ab)/(abc) is the answer. You say ..read more

Suppose that the graph of a function f is known. Expkain how the graph of y = f(x) - 2 differs from the graph of y = f(x - 2). Let me see. For the graph of y = f(x) - 2, the graph of y = f(x) is shifted down 2 units on the line x = 0. For the graph of y = f(x - 2), the graph of y = f(x) is shifted two units to the right on the line y = 0. You say ..read more

Suppose that the graph of a function f is known. Explain how the graph of y = 4•f(x) differs from the graph of y = f(4x). Let me see. For the graph of y = 4•f(x), we stretch the graph vertically because 4 > 1. For the graph of y = f(4x), we compress the graph horizontally because 4 > 1. You say ..read more

The total projected worldwide digital music revenues R, in millions of dollars, for the years 2005 through 2010 can be estimated by the function R(x) = 170.7x^2 + 1373x + 1080 where x is the number of years after 2005. (a) Find R(0), R(3) and R(5),represents. Explain what each value represents. (b) Find r = R(x- 5). (c) Find r(5), r(8), and r(10), and explain what each value represents. (d) In the model r, what does x represent? Let me see. Part A I simply replace x with 0, 3, and 5... Digital Music Revenues ..read more
