Today, the 25th of November, marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The United Nations have officially recognised the day since 7th February 2000, however, the history of the date goes back to 1960, when three sisters were assassinated by order of the Dominican dictator, Rafael Trujillo. The Mirabel sisters (Patricia, Minerva and María Teresa) were political activists and founders of the Revolutionary Movement that were involved in activities that opposed the fascist regime in the Dominican Republic. In 1981 the day was chosen to commemorate the sisters and ..read more

https://youtu.be/9W-IoX2Yo5w?si=JftOAVqcrwCr3wmE Rishi Sunak has pledged to continue plans to send refugees to Rwanda after the UK Supreme Court has ruled the scheme to be unlawful and would pose a “real risk” to those displaced. He plans to reevaluate the treaty with Rwanda, and is “prepared to change our laws” if necessary to push through this legislation. He remains committed to “stopping the boats”, the tagline his administration has been pushing since their appointment last autumn. The scheme would mean that once in Rwanda, refugees would not be able to return to the UK, go back home, or ..read more

The night starts from 7pm till 12pm and is 16 plus. You have the choice of 4 haunted houses, as well as a new addition to Farmaggedon which is a zombie paintballing experience. Aswell as watching entertainment such as live bands, acrobats and characters walking around scaring people and making people laugh. The characters that walk around are both original and recognisable, from Freddy Krueger from the N ..read more

Why are spaces like The World Transformed So Important?
Bombed Out

The World Transformed is a left-wing political festival, set up in 2016, that runs alongside the Labour Party Conference. The organisers' aim was "to create a space in which ideas can be freely exchanged and collectively developed" and over the years this space has become more necessary than ever. A 2015 study found that only 66% of the UK population feel they have a duty to vote compared to 76% in 1987. These statistics are extremely concerning and display a clear issue with political disengagement in this country. Politics has been hijacked by the far-right and is no longer about fighting fo ..read more

Goodbye Nadine: Bad Scouser and Political Joke
Bombed Out
by James P

On 26 August, Nadine Dorries, former Tory minister and plastic scouser, finally resigned as an MP, two and a half months after announcing that she was standing down ‘with immediate effect’ in June. Throughout this protracted resignation – which lasted longer than Liz Truss’ entire premiership – Nadine continued to receive her £86,584 salary while refusing to do any of the associated work helping her constituents she was paid to serve. While less venomous than many of her Tory colleagues, her total incompetence coupled with her obnoxious confrontationalism have cemented her as one of Liverpool ..read more

In a damning Ofsted report, four out of five areas of assessment were marked inadequate and one as requiring improvement. There has been a deterioration in the quality of service since the last Ofsted inspection in 2018, with risks to vulnerable children going unidentified and insufficiently dealt with. Inspector Lisa Summers said: “Efforts to engage those young people who are more resistant to support, particularly those who have additional vulnerabilities, are insufficient, leaving too many without necessary help in times of crisis.” Senior managers have taken action to address capacity issu ..read more

Dyspraxia is a condition that affects physical co-ordination in children and adults. The signs are typically present from a young age but aren’t always recognised until later in the person’s life. DCD is the result of a disruption in the way messages are passed between the brain and body. There is limited understanding of dyspraxia and how it affects the people living with the condition; part due to it being a hidden disability which can be easily missed or misdiagnosed, part due to children’s development having such variation, and part due to neurodivergent individuals struggling to be unders ..read more

A new Nelson Mandela memorial is set to be installed on the isolated island in the middle of Prince’s Park lake. Locals are concerned about the impacts this will have on the natural wildlife in the park, as this is the only area untouched by humans. The lake is home to many different species of bird including the Mute Swan, Grey Heron, and Eurasian Coot, all of which use the island to nest and keep their offspring safe. The installation of the memorial will heavily disrupt the natural habitat that has been thriving there since the 1800’s, and will likely cause irreversible damage if Liverpool ..read more
